G'day and Welcome to Bombadil Hill!

I make videos about living off-grid in Australia. I live on a remote mountain property and am setting up camp to work on an off-grid homestead. Saw-milling, natural timber building, gardening, growing, landscaping, raising animals, fishing, hunting and cooking. The goal is to learn to do it all from scratch. Join me for the adventure, should be pretty fun.

Cheers,

Tarn.

That was an awesome job!. I just did a partial refinish on my parents cast iron stove they bought about 12 years ago and never used. It had surface rust all over it so I scrubbed it all down and used coconut oil and did a heat up on it to season it and it turned out pretty good.

The motor should be above the trommel, and it should be directly attached to the trommel

should it ? the best ones ive seen drive the rollers not the drum

@@wearebacteria well I was thinking of driving the drum initially but watched a few more videos and bottom rollers looks the best and requires no drive tension as the traction is created with gravity. also its now possible to build other drives off the powered axle driving the drum, like an outfeed conveyor for the fines to load a vehicle

This fire pit is one of a few covered pits that is on the list ru-vid.comUgkxAU9pOCSV9Y5JprooHvfxTpOrt4hx8uRM of approved products for Disney Fort Wilderness. The product served its purpose well and provided excellent fires throughout the evening. We were able to open the door and do s'mores, but I had to be careful because the handle was a bit hot on occasions. Additionally, I wish they had replaced some of the standard nuts with lock nuts in some places. We lost the door handle after just a couple of days of usage. Not a deal breaker, just a recommendation. I still give it 5 stars.

I was inspired by your design and used it for my own version of it. ru-vid.com8ZyR0zYPQj4?feature=share I used a treadmill motor for mine. It’s not designed for commercial application so I’m ok with the motor being a little lighter duty. Thanks for the video!

You need plates on the sides to send material back where you want it instead of coming out of the sides. You need your motor above your trommel to keep dust and debris from messing up your motor

You're not wrong but, it doesn't matter. That drum on the trommel would have been in the scrap bin 6 months after it was built. I tried it with drums. They are never truly round. As they flex when they are revolving they are stress fracturing. I solved the problem by rebuilding mine with 30" outer rims from a scrapped tractor.

Fantastic build. Is this thing still operating? Or did the soil muck up the system? Any lessons learned or improvements you’d of made?

If you make concrete with it you should wash it first I think. So .... build a washer and make sure you put a sluice in it to catch any gold or other precious things in the dirt/ sand in the process!

When my neighbour had his house remodeled a couple of years ago I passed on the offer of a, potentially, beautiful old cast iron wood stove/heater. It was in pretty rough condition and I don't know if they even used it but I knew it was worth at least 800 Euros restored even here in rural Portugal.. Sadly my better half decided I didn't need it and I need a quiet life. I've regretted it ever since. That is a nice restoration on a neglected but not to bad condition stove and it was well designed originally with the ability to swap from top to rear venting so easily. Not all modern units are that well thought out. I would be interested to know how well the heat resistant paint holds up given that some Ive used have proved disappointing.

Are you wasting smoke? Very enjoyable video, but all those particulates going out of the chimney and the energy you expended to make them are going to waste. I did an old 1980s Country Magnum and added a secondary burn that works really well at temperature. It smokes like normal until it gets hot enough to draw air in over the fire into the smoke and flame on. You're a clever can do kinda guy. I'd like to see what you could come up with?

Add a screw drive which feeds the mechanism, so you don't have to shovel everything in :)

You guys should install some short guide rails (maybe 1/4 inch) periodically to guide the larger rocks out quickly (like rifling). If you suspend them 2 inches above the screen, they won't interact much with the gravel as it's spinning but will still deflect the bigger rocks.
