Volcano news mixed with Icelandic history, culture, documentaries and travel information trough 4K footage and English narration with rough North Icelandic accent. My name is Gylfi and I'm a professional Icelander, using my local knowledge bring Iceland to you, and I'm also here to help you to make our own perfect travel plan to home country. My approach is however the " non touristy way" or Iceland as is, from my own heart, with a dash of sarcasm or humour when I feel so. Your chance to get to know my Iceland like I would like my friends to know my country.
Channel support is highly appreciated and needed in order make this into a full time work for me, but it's a struggle while I'm still creating one the largest video information source out there. But I'm stubborn and keep on moving around with my camera backpack, no matter what, with the hope that some day, this will become a decent full time job that provides you with reliable information with good entertainment value as well.
Your series on Icelandic towns & villages is awesome! I really loved Vík when I visited Iceland many years ago and this gives me a different perspective... Thank you, Gylfi, for your beautiful videos and always reliable information.
Have you ever considered the fact that your people antisemitism and they taking part against Israel is the main cause of what is happening to you at this time? Maybe, it’s still time to repent and return to God. But it’s coming for sure because God is protecting his people and is punishing all the enemies of Jews and Israel.
I drove by grindavik in February (the northern road to the blue lagoon was blocked). I enjoyed to see the southern reykjanes peninsula, and the empty town was sad. But the roads we drove on now are under rock ... :/
It’s so beautiful but so destructive. The people of the town have had their lives torn upside down by the eruptions. I’m just glad nobody has been seriously hurt.
What incredible and moving video. Your music, the slow panning… I am moved to tears for the town and its people, yet just astonished at those lava defense walls holding their own against the black lava flows. And the bubbling fountains of magma erupting in the distance. It’s beautiful and profound, this balance we have with the forces of the natural world. Amazing you had such clear weather to fly!
The views I hoped to be able to see after this eruption, didn't come until you arrived at the scene. Deeply impressed and a good feeling of having become properly informed. Thank you Gylfi.
Thank you Gylfi. What a great job the tarmackers did on keeping the town safe. My first job after leaving school was with my father who was a tarmacker and one of many Irish immigrants who helped Britain rebuild its roads and cities after the destruction from WW2. Here’s hoping the people of Grindavik get to return to their beloved town. I’ve been there once and found the place very down to earth with warm people. Had a lovely lunch in a cafe run by two brothers and their mother, very welcome in the midst of a cold day. I love Iceland and you’re a great representative for your country. 🇮🇸🇮🇪🇬🇧
Your videos, dear Gylfi, give a perfect idea of what is happening! You are definitely the best documentarian in Iceland! And your love for your land is evident in every moment! It's so sadly exciting to see all the lava around Grindavik! National heroes are the people who built the protective barriers! The fire looming up there makes you realize perfectly what all this means for the people who lived in Grindavìk! They are all in my heart, as if it were my country! Hugs to you, always stay safe while working on videos.
Your video neatly shows how Grindavik is teetering on the brink (espescially the shots with the volcano in the background), those defenses really have made all the difference so far. Hopefully they will continue to hold. Luckily the eruptions so far have been far enough North. It is good to see a perspective that does not just focus on the spectacular but tells the more human side of the story.
What does it mean? It means that, Eldvörp-Svartsengi has started erupting again for the first time in 800 years. It has a massive magma chamber. So is it going to continue to "safely" to little bleeds at a time or be a "bottle rocket" and blow all at once?
I'm not sure if 'rescued' is the right word? I think the correct word should be 'preserved' (for history). I honestly do not foresee anyone living in that town again. Or at least, not within the next 5-10 years anyway.
Thank you, such a moving video which shows the power of nature, human ability to control it in difficult circumstances, evidence of what can be achieved by a community in distress, and your amazing skills.
Oh so very poignant Glyfi 🥹 mixed feelings here. Happy that the infrastructure is so protected but where will it all lead to. Then I recall the Icelandic ‘spirit’ and somehow something positive will come out of it 🤞🙏❤️ thank you Glyfi 💙
