What is the smallest cc motorhead you would use with a skip tooth chain? Thank you for your time.
@GoodDayFarm
@GoodDayFarm День назад
I’ve ran them on 57cc saws, as long as it was sharp I had no issues. The all I can tell you, I’ve never had a smaller cc saw. Personally, I think bar size is what limits you on smaller cc saws. You go to long and the saw will suffer. Thanks for the question, and thanks for watching!

Gonna be running a 12 axle cozad from now on. Never run a mechanical or a cozad, so I've been looking for videos like this one to learn how its done. Up to now I've just been running hydraulic RGN for 15 years. Time to move on to bigger things I suppose!

I hope this video is helpful. Being able to self deck sure can come in handy sometimes, if it gets your length down to avoid pilot cars. 👍

Does square filing only work with the g 108 or does it work with the new granberg as well? Thanks

I think it’ll work in the newer guides with modifications. The vintage ones like in this video need no modification I’ve never tried using a newer Granberg.

Just a word of caution, do not waste money on any of the chinese counterfeits (including Oregon brand) they are so flimsy you can't even get them setup, let alone the amount of flex while trying to file. I have purrchased both, didn't get one tooth done before returning the oregon.

Great video, but... you are using a file as if it's a stone... pressing down while Dragging a file backwards ruins files quickly. Ideally the file needs to be picked up when bringing it back, but at minimum, 99% of weight/pressure needs to be lifted when dragging the file back for another forward cutting stroke.

It’s easier to not accidentally kill the face of your cutters with the small 325 file size or 3/8’s… a 150 diamond HK Diamond eBay or forester 150 grit will cut on both directions and it’s twice as fast to remove that “extra” junk material?? They have won me over

My concern about bench grinders like yours is how consistent they are. In other words, how well does the vice mechanism on your grinder hold the chain? If it's not holding the chain perfectly still for each and every tooth, you will obviously end up with inconsistent grinds, right? Another question is how well the grinder is set up for changing direction for grinding the opposite teeth? I'm sure that you've used a chain that wasn't ground the same on both sides, which causes the saw to essentially "walk off" and, more to the point, not cut straight. I have both liked and subscribed to your channel, so please keep on making the informative videos. 👍
@GoodDayFarm
@GoodDayFarm 7 месяцев назад
In the time I had and used this grinder, I didn’t see any issues…. Although I can understand your concerns. I think it comes down to the quality of the machine. This one is built very well…. But I’m sure you’d have those issue with lesser quality machines. Unfortunately, I don’t have it anymore, I don’t cut firewood anymore, so I can’t give you a long term review. Thanks for the comment, thanks for watching. 😊👍
@user-cd7jx2td8n
@user-cd7jx2td8n 7 месяцев назад
@@GoodDayFarm Would you like to sell the grinder? In my experience, manufacturers tend to increase their margins over time by "modifying" their designs. For example, they may decided to sub what were once quality steel parts for cheaper/inferior pot metal parts that aren't as durable. In short, I trust an older unit over a newer one, so let me know if your grinder is presently collecting dust in your shop. Have a good one.

I just used a double bevel square file i can get the right side teeth perfect then turned it around and wrecked the left side. Super pissed i thought i had it but i dont. Id like to see more square filing with this jig thinking about getting one. I wanna run square. So the g106 wont work with this file? All i can find are granberg g106. Will the 3 corner chisel bit file fit in a g106 i guess i could use that file instead.
@GoodDayFarm
@GoodDayFarm 8 месяцев назад
I’ve never done it, but I think you can set the 106 up with a triangle file. The vintage guides are the only ones I know of that’ll work with a double bevel file.

I have a cheaper one from Princes Auto.. (Canada's Harbor Freight).. it works well when obviously set proper but the chain break doesn't hold chain still and tends to jump up a bit and when a little too aggressive on the break will move off 30 degree.. the hydraulic assist and the better quality built will be a game changer to how I sharpen now.. great informative video..
