誰告訴long time no see 不是英文?這個phrase 首次出現在刊物是1843年 一個叫James Campbell的人寫的titled Excursions, Adventures, and Field-Sports in Ceylon: "Ma-am-long time no see wife-want go to Colombo see wife.”
~ment本身是名詞. 例: entertainment (娛樂), compliment (褒讚), supplement (補充) Verb + ing 是gerund, 當作名詞使用. 例: Swimming is my hobby. Gerund 可以是句子的subject, 亦可以是object. When a gerund comes before the main verb in a sentence, it acts as the subject of the sentence, for example, “Swimming always puts me in a good mood.” When a gerund comes after the main verb, it acts as the direct object. The following verbs usually take on a gerund which acts as its direct object: Enjoy, consider, imagine, deny Example: I enjoy swimming. (swimming - object)
@@YuYu-tb6ps 容許我explain in greater detail. 就以entertainment和entertaining為例, let me differentiate the difference: Entertainment本身是名詞. 例: TV is a popular entertainment. TV是一種普及的娛樂. Entertaining (v+ing) 可以是動詞, 亦可以當作名詞使用. I am entertaining my guest. 我正在招待我的客人. Entertaining 是動詞, 現在進行式時態 (verb in present continuous tense) Entertaining my guests is the last thing I want to do. 招待客人這項工作是我最不愛做的事. Entertaining 是 gerund before the main verb “is”, 當作名詞使用, 是句子的subject. My two cents only (two cents是idiom, 當我們自告奮勇發表意見時用, 大概是 “我的冒昧愚見” 的意思吧)
@@hagrid0731 Thanks for your inspiration. 我剛剛上網search吓mango的出處. 正如你所説, 芒果的原產地是印度半島. 但according to the articles on Internet, 英語mango之所以稱mango, 是翻譯自Portugese的 "manga", 跟你的information略有不同. 而且芒果是先從 印度半島傳到亞洲, 才到歐美. 芒果印度語是 "aam", 漢語譯作菴羅」、「菴摩羅」、「菴婆羅」、「菴沒羅」等. 我只是quote information on internet, 但不知是否正確. Anyway, 謝謝指正, and once again thanks for your information that inspires me to dig deeper, leading to interesting revelation.
還有face value, 本來face value refers to "the value or price that is shown on a certain thing, e.g. stamps, money, bonds, etc". 近年face value 引伸直譯作 "顏值", 表示 "美貌的程度"
