Cruising Kentucky Lake and the Tennessee River: Pulling Anchor at Sunrise S1:E44

We travel down Kentucky Lake and up the beautiful Tennessee River this week. Our pace is slower now that our fellow Loopers are more spread out. We decide to pull up anchor early from one of our favourite anchorages so that we don't miss a lockage coming in to Iuka. Finally a week without any mishaps or boat issues. Thanks for watching!

Looks like you had a good trip. All went well and you got to see the sights of the area, Barge traffic is always there since that was one of the main reasons for the canal. The mississippi is more interesting buy a few more problems.

Yes, on the Mississippi we really felt we had to be super attentive. There was barge traffic on the TomBigbee (next week's episode) and because of the VERY windy corners, we had a few moments where a tow told us to "go before the next tow reaches the corner". We found that a little stressful, but we just told ourselves if it all went bad we'd just dump ourselves outside of the channel. Worst thing is that we'd ground and probably not too badly if we went slowly. And, it went just fine at the end of the day. (Sandra)

Love the docking dramas and the mechanicals on the boat. Not being a looper or boater really in that fact I assume you have no problems with the draft of your boat on the route. Safe traveling.

I've witnessed a few others docking. It can be quite colorful. Heck, there are a number I've never included because they got a but tense! The headsets help enormously although with our set being a bit tricky, we see the value in establishing a bit of hand signals. We draw 3.5 feet so, except for the most shallow entrances on the Mississippi because of low water, we've been fine almost everywhere. There have been moments where we've just bumped the boat forward because itcwas that shallow. Peoria Marina is a good example. (Sandra)
