1/4" fusible web would provide perfect utility for securing your binding to the back in preparation for stitching. As you see the stitch line on the back you know that you have the coverage you are looking for.
could you post a link to your etsy provider of your tags. Those are perfect for making these pouches and other things as well. I have been looking for great tags like yours for a long time
I cut all my pieces and interfaced everything, started sewing this morning and can't figure out how you attached the back of the lining for the first (smaller) pocket. Please help!
At 6:05 you can see that I lay the lining right side up on my table then lay the bottom front with zipper attached, on top of it. Then lay the little outer fabric section on top of the zipper and stitch. You are stitching 3 layers at one time. Hope that helps!
I just finished my Strata quilt and watched this to learn how to apply facing. WOW hand sewing! Looks nice though. I will give it a try. You are such a great teacher. Do you have anything on hand sewing? I do love the quilting designs in the snow. I can feel the depth. Beautiful.
The only hand sewing I do is finishing facings. I actually don't have the patience for it. Many art quilters are making use of it, though and I love the look. Glad you liked the video! Rachel
Trace on freezer paper, shiny side up: Outside lines Horizon lines Trees Iron/fuse Mistyfuse into back of tree fabric Cut out & iron templates onto bottom of fabric. Cut out trees(will be raw edges). Put it all together? Quilt edges of trees in matching thread. Swith to shiny thread for decorative stitching inside trees. Play. Add pearlescent paint & let it dry. Set paint with iron.
Hi, thank you very much for the guide, it's perfect I wanted to know how to adjust it to the size I want. For example, I have a 15-inch computer - how much to add to each length
My daughter wanted a zippered pouch to carry bills and coins. I cut this at 8 inches instead of 6 inches and kept the other measurements the same. I put zipper tabs on the top zipper. I used a light interfacing on the outside pieces only.
Hi Mrs. Derstine, I'm wanting to print onto the silk sheets just like you have done. I know I must use the pigment-based inks, but could you tell me what printer you used, please? I'm just starting out so I can't afford a huge large format printer. Do you use cartridges or an EcoTank? I am a silk painter, but I do not have enough patience we for quilting, lol! Your art is beautiful and I hope you did really well selling your pieces. Please allow me to give you a suggestion regarding a different way of displaying your art. If I were to make one of your quilted silk pieces I would use an acrylic varnish to adhere the quilted silk piece to a canvas that was a little larger than would be used for that size. Once the piece is on the canvas and it is securely adhered to it, I would maybe add some finishing touches then sign my name half on the canvas, half on the quilted piece. Once dried it can be hung as wall art or put on a decorative easel to be displayed off floor or tabletop. One of the cool things about displaying this type of art as I've described is that you can run your fingers/hands across the canvas - from left side to right side or top to bottom and feel the textures of it all! 🙂 🙃 🙂
Thanks so much for all you suggestions! I do mount some of my pieces on canvas and like that look. I have used just an inexpensive Epson XP440 printer. The later editions might be different numbers. I just buy my ink cartridges at Staples and recycle with them as well. They give you credits if you recycle. Good luck with your art!
You saved me! I was using someone else’s pattern and I couldn’t understand it! Your video made everything perfectly clear! I will ALWAYS look for your videos FIRST from now on. Thank you so much!!
Hi, im planning to make a sleeve for my graphics tablet. Can you help me with the fabric dimensions? The tablet is 17.5" x 11" x .5". I should add 2" for the width and 1" for the height? I dont plan to put a pocket to protect the screen
Yes, that sounds about right. Add 2" to the longest dimension and 1" to the shorter one. You will not need the second zipper and just make the plain front and back.
Hi Rachel, I just found your videos on RU-vid. I love making art quilts. I have not made very many and am trying to learn as many new techniques as I can. Thank you so much for sharing this applique technique. I also watched your video of your quilt facing technique. I can't tell you how glad I was to see your instructions. I am making a small piece and this facing is exactly what I needed to finish it off. I would send you a picture but I don't know how to do that. Your work is stunning. Thank you again for sharing!!!! Sandra
Thank you for your tutorial. I’m a beginner and it only took me 2 times to figure it out. 😂 I wasn’t pleased with my zipper ends, but I’ll save that for my next pouch. Love your work!
Loved your video, you explain everything so well, I don't even have a question at this time which is very unusual for me being pretty new at sewing thank you again
This is exactly what I was looking for to make this bag can I use non woven interfacing for the fabrics ? I also have the double sided fusible batting and regular 109% cotton batting which is best to use? Sometimes I get confused from all the different batting and fusibles 🤗😁
