What started out as a weekend house bought on a whim will be our new home when we leave the city for a new life on the Italian countryside of Parma.
Follow us on our journey as we slowly transform and start the renovation of this old abandon "Liberty" styled villa that might not be a French Chateau like so many others but a dream property for lovers of the movie "Call me by your name" into a new family home for us and our dogs!
When you are away from the house, I'm sure you have it well monitored to keep it secure. Building construction sites are often targets for theft and vandalism. There's so much of your own hard labor to protect!
You should be wearing a mask when generating so much dust! I know it's a nuisance, but better safe than sorry. You have a lot of patience to remove all that plaster and cement.
Wow just Wow Some People Dream of Achieving what you have done You got out of bed & worked hard to make it happen I cannot imagine how proud and satisfied you must feel I hope it is immense 🙏💕🕊️
According to the traffic of the trucks there and the parking lot and the structure of the huge warehouse right in front of the house, it seems that it is less of a residential area and more of a commercial industrial area now and my question is why invest so much time and money if the final value will not be high anyway due to the problematic location.
No it's not, it's in a village, we have a mechanic right next door but all the other houses are residental but our place is right on the edge of a corner of the tiny village.
Au tout début de la vidéo, une question: les arbres vous appartiennent ils? Si c’est le cas effectivement il vous incombe de couper les branches qui vont sur le champ voisin. J’ai profité de faire du tourisme avec vous ,belle région ❤
The asphalt disks are usually used in the automotive industry. They help to remove paint while insuring that the metal structure underneath doesn't get damaged.
Soooo sorry for this delay!! I had a Bad feeling about the window company a long time ago as they didn’t seem to care about how their lapse in service and delivery was affecting your project!! I certainly hope you are able to not only get your windows , or if not, then get your money reimbursed With Interest, because of the costs in the waiting and how these delays affected your timeline! This company has cost you not only time but money in your project management!!! But!! I don’t know how it works in Italy and you both seem so Positive, kind and patient, that I know you’re going to be grateful to have the money returned, just so you can proceed with this restoration!!😅 It is a terrible situation for you and Anna to have to deal with this as you have made much progress in a short time and then were really on a roll until the reality of this company’s unethical business practices!! Enjoy your time away and we all will be waiting, I’m sure!! 😮 😂
Thank you for your very kind words! Yes we have been fairly patient but that’s over now 😂 we just hope to have this resolved as quickly as possible so that we can continue! Thank you for watching!
Ok, it will be painted, I just read in the comments, good. My apologies, but the thumbnail is misleading for those who are not subscribed, I got it recommended…
Haha no worries, we have no intentions of ruining the house, it will be restored as it was new, so not the orange plastic paint and for sure not Miami white 😝
Can't you make a simple latch for the bathroom window and seal it? Make it work for a while, doesn't have to be a permanent fix, just a fix to get you through so you can carry on.
I was always told that the bricks have a fired finish that is important... if you grind or sandblast off the fired finish, the bricks will be prone to erosion. Often, old brick structures have fired bricks on the exterior finish and non-fired bricks on the interior of the wall. I hope you are not compromising the brick facade.❤
You might be right, I think I can save them with a water repellent though, if not then we will have to put a new facade plaster on, but I hope we don't have to!
Henrik I think in a previous life you were a stand up comedian 😁looking forward to your return plus getting window issues sorted hope you and Anna have a great break 🤞🏽
WOW! What a great job you're doing. The restoration in itself is not easy and meandering through the Italian rules and regulations adds to the value and valour of your effort. Bravissimi!
Sono così felice di rivederti, pensavo che ti fossi arreso dopo tutte le difficoltà della finestra. Ho letto dove un elefante si mangia un boccone alla volta, quindi mastica bene e abbraccia Anna!
Haha, that is a great saying! No we will not give up, it will just take some extra time, the house will for sure be finished eventually! Thank you for watching!
Awesome job on the brickwork. You mentioned re-pointing between the bricks, so it's my assumption is that you will keep the bricks unplastered and unpainted. If so, there is a fantastic product I used when I renovated my 200-year-old stone village house on Naxos Island in Greece. After months of removing old cement plaster, cleaning each rock, removing all the sand packing between the rocks, and re-pointing, I needed to prevent rainwater ingress into the rocks / pointing and protect the building. The product I used is Sikagard -700 S - a one-part water-repellent impregnation for absorbent cementitious substrates. It penetrates well into the open pores of the substrate, providing durable water repellency, while still allowing water vapour diffusion in both directions. Sikagard -700 S complies with the requirements of EN 1504-2 for hydrophobic Impregnation (penetration depth class I). Sikagard -700 S is used as a water-repellent and colourless protective surface treatment on absorbent exposed materials such as concrete, cementitious rendering, concrete tiles, fibre cement, brickwork (clay and lime sand, non-vitrified), and natural stone. Sikagard -700 S can also be used as a hydrophobic primer under solvent-based or emulsion protective coating. And no, I don't work for the company, it's just that the product is fantastic, the stone colour did not change, the product is super matt (not a varnish finish) and it works really well - 7 years now and my walls still repel water and look great. Happy renovating 🙂
We missed your videos, great see you again! A short note: the reason why the fires are banned in winter is not for safety but for environmental reasons as in that time of the year the smoke usually stays in the atmosphere much longer and there is less „green“ on the trees etc. to process the fumes (sorry, I am not a native speaker, hope that makes sense ... 😉)
Thank you! Yes my neighbour told me the same, I just find it funny anyway, large uncontrolled fires in the summer must be worse than trapping a bit of smoke in the atmosphere 🤷🏽♂️
@@VillaAroldi well, it seems like it’s not so much the smoke but the released CO2 that nature can’t handle well in winter 🤷♀️ I only got aware of that as we have strikter speed limits in Austria in winter than in summer on some highways for the same reason. But honestly, not sure about that whole CO2 narrative all together …
@@HannahMariaWhiteLight I really cant say, I wonder how much difference the co2 for a car is when doing 90 compared to 120, cant be much difference. I think they should look into all the cargo ships instead, that's the real problem.
Welcome back! I do love your deadpan sense of humor. I was hoping you might start work on the pool this spring but I guess you we hoping that too originally.
You're such a tease. You talked about not having a front door/window on the stables, and your transition was "one week later." I wonder if you'll get a door this year.
