Recalls many good memories from the 1980s-1990s of riding the Hudson Division both ways aboard open-platform PVs Lehigh Valley 353, with the late Dick Horstmann, and Caritas, with owner Clark Johnson. Much appreciated!
When did Amtrak add new lighting under the West Side overbuild? This is great! In older videos I would just skip this part because it was too dark to see anything.
Hello and greetings from Salvador, Bahia, Brazil! An excelent video, thank you. Nice to see that from New York (NY) to New Haven (CT) Amtrak has retained many of the old catenary poles from New Haven Railroad era, although of course the old triangular catenary wires were replaced by modern standards.
Did you do another 290 ride? I see you weren’t supervising the camera. Would it have been a problem if you did the whole ride? Was the conductor chill enough about it
no I tried doing one last year but was unlucky. I could see the camera from my seat and was periodically checking on it (which is how I new to tighten the mount in the beginning). I only did Albany to NYP and I couldn't get the first bit because the rear door was still open from the engine change. Conductors didn't care and in fact, I had Amtrak's marketing team in that area that went into the vestibule to get their own shots and I chatted with one of them between Albany and Hudson. I seem to only have problems on the Northeast Corridor where crews aren't as friendly.
this line is easliy in my top three of favourites all around the world, but this video is perfect! everything in the video is exaclty as it should be: the foiliage, the colours, the weather... thanks for sharing it with us!
I think that around 26:14 you meant to say "Rip Van Winkle Bridge" connecting Hudson with Catskill. Otherwise, it was excellent. Never heard your voice in a video until now..............
A few things I forgot to add as I was trying to get this video out quickly: 01:29:32 MP 41.3 Peekskill Station 02:20:12 Arrival into Penn Station was 1 min late
Ahh I can almost smell the Ocean air. Grew up along this Coast and Miss it at times. Enjoyed this video with actual surfers seen out waiting on the outside set. So cool!
I always say this, but while China has better high-speed trains, America has better low-speed trains. In China if you’ve ever been on a “Green-Skinned train” the top speed is slower than most corridor trains in the US and smoking is allowed inside the trains. Plus it’s bench 3x2 seating which is more akin to commuter train seats here. I’m not trying to defend America’s lack of investment in high-speed rail but it’s worth giving credit where credit is due.
I am riding the Adirondack from Plattsburgh to New York on Wednesday, and I was wondering if you had a timetable showing the interlocking for the Plattsburgh to Albany portion. I’m hoping I could get a rear RFW on it without any resistance. It might rain so hopefully a rear view on a rainy day might be less raindrop covered than a RFW.
this should cover all of CP as of January 2007 www.redoveryellow.com/position-light/Blog/CP_Northeast_US_TT-5_2-11-2007.pdf CSX from Schenectady as of November 2004 www.multimodalways.org/docs/railroads/companies/CSX/CSX%20ETTs/CSX%20Albany%20Div%20ETT%20%234%2011-1-2004.pdf Unfortunately I can't find anything more recent but the railway hasn't changed that much in 20 years and I've used the 2004 one on many of my rides over CSX territory
