My name is Justin , I made this channel to share my knowledge and experience with all of you. My main skillset is with audio, audio recording and microphones. I also work on various projects in film/stage production.
I hope you all enjoy the videos and I hope to teach you something along the way!
Interesting results. I have both of these microphones and I prefer the Rode PodMic. I am using the Podcaster Duo as my interface. My voice sounded deeper, rounder and punchier than the Shure, but my voice is deeper than yours. I need to spend more time tweaking MV7X, but initially, I was disappointed with the results. Maybe because I had SM7B expectations. I will revisit, but right now the PodMic is my goto. I also plosives more prominent using the MV7X.
Don’t care what anyone says- My White Lewitt w/White Holder is amazing 🤩 ( are you kidding me???) What an outstanding performance piece for this price ✅🙌‼️
Just wondering if poly files can be opened by DAW/? Im using Presonus and it doesnt seem to recognize the nature of the file and instead just gives me one track to work with.
That mic sounds good, but it seems to have a horrible time with plosives. They needed to provide a thicker foam windscreen with that mic for sure. Thanks for the great content! BTW it would be nice if you can slowly rotate the mic as you continue speaking, to demonstrate off-axis rejection.
Problem with a thicker wind screen is that it alters the tone more. That why I recommend the pop filters, especially the metal ones. They alter it less. The reason why I don’t rotate it while doing off axis is because I don’t want handling noise distracting the test. That’s why I walk around it Thanks for checking out the video
@@RebelTech1990 Hey that might be a topic for another video... how much does thicker foam (or doubled up foam which I understand is sometimes done in professional settings) affect tone. I have an old Audio-Technica ATM73a head-worn condenser that sounds (to me) best with doubled up foam cover.
Your reviews got me to get my first dynamic mic, the Zoom ZDM-1. Who can beat it at $37.99... its a steal. Not really interested in field recorders, but if I were, I'd probably watch Curtis Judd... but Podcastage does videos I'm more interested in... also enjoy Dark Corner Studios. Surprised you hadnt reviewed the Blue Sona nor the Dynacaster. From the reviews, I'd pick one of those over an SM7b unless I just want the "look"... but I'm perfectly content with my $37.99 Zoom ZDM-1!
It kind of does demonstrate why the Lewitt could be a better choice for recording acoustic guitar. I hope so, as I've just ordered a 040 matched pair. I assume they'll be great for me while I work out just what I need for acoustic guitar recording. The bottom end is important, but certainly the octiva sounds like it's got a lot I'd have to filter out both for recording the guitar, but for the background noise where I record.
I got the rode procaster and the wave xlr. does anyone know whether I can connect a fathead to the rode procaster without damaging anything? Would work, would it not..?
It should work just fine. Just make sure you put on phantom power. Also put the fethead on the wave xlr side. Less chance of damaging the mic. It shouldn’t but if you’re worried about it then that works too. Thanks for checking out the video
Really love your videos! I m a beginner field recorder and'll start working on a short movie on Monday (tomorrow)! I got the Zoom F6 last week together with some omni mics and a shotgun; your videos are REALLY saving me, a lot of precious informations in here! Thanks a lot, man!!!
_//Thanks for sharing the video! Let me tell you something important: God loves you! God loves us ! He is no respecter of persons! because God wants us all to be saved! and let's go to the knowledge of the “Truth” God wants to save us from eternal damnation, which we all deserve because of sin, who entered the world through Adam, and death entered through sin, and thus death passed to all human beings, Therefore, we are all “Sinners” But God's Love was so great for us, that he sent his only Son (Jesus Christ), gave him to this world, to die and rise for all of us! No Respect of Persons! so that everyone who believes in Jesus Christ does not go to eternal punishment, but rather has “Eternal Life!” “ Jesus Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures; and he was buried, and rose again on the third day, according to the Scriptures Jesus Christ came to call sinners to “Repentance! “ and, he who believes in Him, has “Eternal Life! “But whoever refuses to believe in Jesus Christ, the wrath of God remains on him. Then, as through Adam's transgression, condemnation came to all human beings, in the same way, through the justice of Jesus Christ, justification of life came to all human beings! All of us who believe in The Only Savior of the world! The Only Mediator between God and us! The Lord Jesus Christ! The son of God! All of us who trust in Him; we have “Eternal Life! “ And we must know that there is salvation in no one else; because there is no other name under heaven, given to human beings, in which we can be saved. Only by Believing/Trusting in “Jesus Christ” can we be Saved! But Jesus Christ also said: Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Therefore, we must be doers of the Word of God! and not only listeners and/or readers, deceiving ourselves. So let's read the Word of God! There is His Will! what God wants us to do! Let us read mainly the Gospels; Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, and let us pray to God, our Heavenly Father, all the days of the life that He gave us! God loves you! God loves us! To Him alone be the Glory Forever! Amen! Great video! I have been using my F6 in 32-bit float mode and still have some clipping displayed in Audacity. I was just wondering how to repair the audio file in post-production when using the 32-bit float mode?
Some programs can’t process 32 bit. Usually it’s just as easy as lowering the level so that the peaks are brought to normal. Thanks for checking out the video!
I'd rather not risk cheaper cables, even on a feed from a cheap microphone. A production-killing cable fault is just as damaging and disruptive on a Behringer as on a Neumann. If you can, without sacrificing other priorities, buy it once and buy it right.
I am getting the PodMic since I only need it for corporate calls, however, I am curios to see what you think about the pop filter they introduced with the usb. I heard reviewers say it actually changes the sound a bit
Any thick apparatus will alter the tone. Just need to find one that has a happy compromise with plosive and tone. I’ve noticed that the metal pop filters don’t alter the tone as much
@@RebelTech1990 I looked it up and it says I didn’t need any of that bc of the built in preamp and they said make sure u have a audio interface that has 48 phantom power which I did but as of rn I did returned it and got myself the mv7+
I mean this as constructively as possible… As someone who watches almost every microphone-related video on RU-vid, I struggle with the meandering nature of yours. I feel like there is about 6-8 minutes of very good information spread across 20-25 minutes and I often end up passing over your videos for more concise options. There may be people who prefer the more long form style (if enough people, then disregard this altogether), but I’m sure there are many people like me who see how long the video is and move right past it to a more easily digestible one.
That’s why I do this for fun and it doesn’t matter if I get a ton of views. I make my videos as short as I can without losing information I feel is necessary to be heard. I feel if I cut stuff, for the sake of making it more appealing to people that don’t want to sit for 20 minutes, I’ll lose my message. Might sounds a bit narrow minded but it’s just how I feel. But I also leave chapters in the videos so skipping is always an option. I do appreciate the feedback, it’s always great to hear everyone’s opinions. Thanks for checking out the video
@@RebelTech1990 That is a totally reasonable explanation. I respect that you do it the way you want to regardless of views - I am the exact same way with the podcast I do with my son. We have fun making it, and I get to to use different gear along the way. Keep enjoying what you do!
for recording a bunch of stuffs like vocals, acoustic guitar, or some percussions that later will be heavily processed, do you think it's really worth it to go with lewitt or the at2020 will work just fine?
Bought a bunch of cheap colored XLR cable for podcasting, so very careful use, no violent stage production. They all frigging broke. Something decent lasts for years, a bad cable lasts a few months and adds mental strain. At least for audio where it is so non-binary and confusing, adding a bit of extra just makes sense. If you got a static setup and rarely unplugs the cables I guess the strain release/ connectors etc matters less, but if you regularly unplug XLR’s get something decent, the basic stuff is not worth it. That’s my take. If you don’t want to learn the connectors etc you can ask in a music shop what they’d recommend. If it’s good enough for stage work it’s good enough for most usages :)
Will this mic be good for Discord/Zoom calls? And also if i can make a makeshift vocal booth (blankets etc.) For voiceovers? Thinking about getting this one or an Nt-1, what do you suggest?
Honestly this or the nt1 are good. The factor that could make your decision is off axis rejection. The AT875R will reject more off axis sounds but I don’t think it sounds as good as the NT1. I would try to get a solid environment and go with the NT1. Thanks for checking out the video!
Question for you: is the 416T basically the same microphone as the 416 P48? (Aside from the extra power device you need to power the T microphone)? As long as you get the T power supply, I'm wondering if the quality, otherwise would be the same. I've noticed that on eBay, used 416 P 48 microphones don't usually hover anywhere below 600 bucks (and even used, tend to be between 700 and $800) but you can find quite a few 416T units for under $475! I'm wondering if, other than needing the additional power supply or whatever, is the quality considerably lower with the design of those T microphones? Are the P48 mics noticeably better in quality of sound? Thanks in advance!
I’ve never used the “t” model but I did find this forum. gearspace.com/board/studio-stage-mobile-amp-location-equipment/48169-diff-between-mkh416-p48-mkh416-t.html
Send me over some screenshots and exactly how you set up your stuff. Either on discord or email. Just make sure, if you email, to put “question from RU-vid video” in your subject so I know to see it
I’ve been stuck on at AT 3035 for a while now and I get complements on my audio daily as I’ve been using it in an amateur radio situation. It’s been discontinued at this point. If it ever were to fail the AT 4040 would be my next mic, but I don’t see that happening any time soon. I like the overall sound and specs of both mics. 👍
Honestly I think the PodMic is just old now. Sure it’s had different iterations since the first one but it just didn’t age as well as some people would have hopped. When it came out it was rare to have a solid cheap broadcast mic. But now I feel it’s good but needs some help with EQ. Thanks for checking out the video!
It was a joke I made a while back. When I started covering the ZDM1, I had an unusual amount of comments taking the side of the ZDM1. Apparently my opinion on the build quality pissed some people off and it felt like a mob for a bit. So that’s why I gave them the name and I ran with it. Funny thing is I love the sound of the mic. Thanks for checking out the video!
The sterlings consistently sound much better in the untreated room on all your comparison videos imo. It sounds better untreated vs treated even. Sounds bigger and more open. Which compliments the mid tone focus imo.
I have a quirk. I always update my hardware even if I don't use it often. Before, with my TentacleSyncE and F6 needed a 1/8 reverse (R&L) stereo cable. After months of not using it, now all of a sudden it takes a normal cable. And the reversed cables no longer work. What happened? Can an update had switch left to right connection inside? I also updated the Tentacle since and as I said didn't used those gear for months almost a year.
Updates can change a lot of stuff. Direction of audio be it LR or RL could happen. But since you updated both devices, I’m not sure which one could be the culprit. Maybe try factory resetting the F6 and see if you still have the issue. Not sure if it’ll help but it would be my first step. Thanks for checking out the video!
