How do you get it to sound a little more bass heavy and radio show sounding with this setup?

What was that latch mechanism you had for the mic? That looks super convenient.

Hey! First off, Great video! There is not many videos out there that use this specific combo setup! So I really appreciate you making this video! Next, I have no idea what im doing with setting up the sound through the shure sm7b. I also use a cloud lifter with my Wave XLR, but the issue is that my microphone is picking up my mechanical keyboard as well as my mouse clicks. I also know it has not been configured specifically to my voice (I like to stream games on twitch and make youtube videos). Do you have any solutions for this? Again, I have not done any reconfiguring of the mic or the software, so I am asking as someone who basically pulled it out of the box and plugged everything into eachother as well as downloaded Wavelink. Thank you for the help in advance!

Ok let’s start with the position of your mic. I have a bunch of videos covering the sm7b. All of them have a off axis test to see where the most rejection is. So ideally you want the rear of the mic to face the noise, outside of your voice. Next, get up on the mic. Most dynamic mics work best when you are 2 inches away from it. “Eating the mic” as some say. Now if you want to work with some vsts (plug ins) reaper has a great bundle that I believe is free. You can play around with noise reduction and possibly an expander. For vocals I prefer an expander rather than a noise gate. An expander is a little more forgiving and easier to use. You could use a gate but the harsh open and close is tough to hone in and get right. Other than that you can use the clip guard (limiter) and lcf (low cut filter), that is in the software from download. These can help with a bunch of things depending on how you use them. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks for checking out the video!

I have been using same mic and Wave XLR. Is that possible to leverage the sound for live streams and live mic monitoring video recordings? Definitely I’m getting better sound with Rode Rodecaster Pro 2 than Wave XLR with Shute SM7B. Please help with Wave XLR to get better sound.

Great video man! I recently purchased the SM7B and Wave XLR. I have a couple quick questions for you. Do you always recommend keeping the 48V phantom power on? And I’ve been having some random issues with a static scratchy noise. I replaced the XLR with a really nice one and still hear it here and there. Any ideas how to fix that for good? Thanks in advance!
@RebelTech1990
@RebelTech1990 8 месяцев назад
The 48v phantom power is only necessary if you have a “mic activator”. Like a feathers or cloud lifter. Other than that you don’t need it. As far as the static or scratchy noises. Replacing the xlr is a good first step, but other things could be an issue. First thing is making sure there’s no electrical interference around your mic set up. Could be from an outlet or something similar. Other than that it could be a hardware issue. Be it the mic or the interface. Maybe change the usb cable to the cpu. That could help. Also consider that the sound may be only in monitoring. So the headphones or speakers could be acting up. Hope this helps, let me know how it goes. Thanks for for checking out the video!

do you go into the Shure application and play around with the settings on there aswell? Or do you just use the Elgate Application?

In this video I just go into the wave software. Is the Shure software available for any Shure mic? I thought it was only available for their usb mics?

Hi there, do you recommend keeping 48v of phantom power on with the same exact set up you have if you are not using the microphone? I use my computer a lot for other purposes and just want to make sure it won’t damage my computer or mic in any way if I have it on everytime I turn my computer on.

I keep mine on all the time and I don't see any issues with it. I'm not saying that it can't be an issue, just that it hasn't happened to me. Hope this helps! Thanks for checking out the video!

I got the rode procaster and the wave xlr. does anyone know whether I can connect a fathead to the rode procaster without damaging anything? Would work, would it not..?
@RebelTech1990
@RebelTech1990 Месяц назад
It should work just fine. Just make sure you put on phantom power. Also put the fethead on the wave xlr side. Less chance of damaging the mic. It shouldn’t but if you’re worried about it then that works too. Thanks for checking out the video

I have a question when I was using the wave xlr and was playing back my Voice I could hear my keyboard when I was typing is there is a way to suppress that?
@RebelTech1990
@RebelTech1990 4 месяца назад
First try angling your mic where the dead zone of the pick up pattern faces the keyboard. After that you can be as close to the mic as possible with the gain set properly. If you still hear the keyboard then you can use a noise suppression or an expander on the mic track. Hope this helps, let me know if you need any more help! Thanks for checking out the video!

Hey friend I appreciate your comment, what do you think would be the best pairing for a shire sm7b ? The vocaster one or the wave XLR, I’m a noob in audio for sure and my focus in content creation, talking head videos ok RU-vid and voiceover, thank you so much
@RebelTech1990
@RebelTech1990 8 месяцев назад
Wave XLR for sure. I don't know much about the vocaster one, but I will say they're consumer products are kinda hit or miss. Also the Wave XLR has great software. Hope this helps! Thanks for checking out the video!

@@RebelTech1990 thank you for the reply!! I’ll go with the wave XLR + Shure SM7b Then, it’s also cheaper and for what I gathered there’s no way to turn off direct monitoring on vocaster which alone is a huge downside for me personally

@@RebelTech1990 I looked it up and it says I didn’t need any of that bc of the built in preamp and they said make sure u have a audio interface that has 48 phantom power which I did but as of rn I did returned it and got myself the mv7+

I use the Reeper VSTs. They are simple and I think they are still free. I do plan to do more videos on settings and tweeks to specific microphones, just need to find some time to make them. But I do plan on it eventually. Thanks for checking out the video!

Do you need a cloudlifter with this?
@RebelTech1990
@RebelTech1990 Год назад
Technically no, with this combination. The Wave XLR has plenty of gain. But, will a mic activator help, sure. It always helps
@Discombobulate453
@Discombobulate453 Год назад
Probably not. The Wave XLR was pretty much designed with the knowledge that most people buying this will be using an SM7B with it, and not the Wave Mic, as it’s just THAT popular.
