What bothers me about buying skates is the impossibility of seeing them in person + the difference in liners & lasts can make a huge difference in skate fit and performance. I was recently given a pair of Tau's and they fit wonderfully - 2 sizes above my original fit. Franky Morales 2 - 40 - Way too tight Hardcore Evo - 40 - Somewhat Undersized + Had to heat mold for fit Aeons - 40 - Fits with Second Skin / Intuition Liners Next - 40 - Too big CL 15 (Iqon's wider Powerslide Next) - 40 - Fits okay Tau - 42 - Best fit It has taken years of buying skates and trying on others skates to come to an understanding about skate sizing charts: You'll never know unless you purchase them.

Absolutely: it is almost impossible without just trying them on! I really wish that I had a place to try on skates around here in my area. Interesting about the Tau fitting best at larger size; I have a buddy with Taus and he also upsized his from his normal size but says they feel amazing!

Hi I'm in the UK I contacted the company I brought the skates from but they just wanted me to send the entire lot back which I don't want to do so I'm hoping if I contact fr directly I can just get a new frame, I brought from slickwillies because they are the only ones that had my size
@DrewMtn
@DrewMtn 14 дней назад
Just to update that whilst fr was fantastic in regards to sending me out a new pair of frames quite quickly, the same thing happened again when I went to tighten them up, I have informed them that they clearly are having some quality control issues and it could be quite dangerous for someone who isn't aware of this issue and the wheels coming off mid drive, I didn't ask for another replacement but instead I have put some m6 bolts with washers on with a flange nut on the other side, you could also helicoil them if you wanted to just use a single bolt but it would have to be a m6 bolt after helicoilng, I did link fr to your video and they told me that they resolved the issue with you, which I believe ment, they sent you some fr 2 frames which is silly considering the frame length is different and I want 240mm , overall I would say to anyone just pass up on these, these are to replace my fr1 skates but I wouldn't bother to anyone thinking about it , too much hassle
@PokeProfWill
@PokeProfWill 14 дней назад
@@DrewMtn man that is crazy! I really hope they address this issue as more people are reporting. I agree about the safety aspect being a serious issue for them (and us); I crashed when a wheel flew off but luckily didn’t take any injuries there other than bruise/scrape. As far as FR resolving the issue with me, I guess could say it was resolved by giving me a pair of R2 frames (I specifically requested them to send me something other than the Neo D frames since I had issues twice already with the Neo Ds). Thanks a bunch for keeping posted on your experience with the skates! The ride height and dual density shell is super nice but pretty risky with the frame quality it seems unfortunately

I used to teach physics labs during graduate school and physics comes into play a ton when skating! Notably when spinning there is a lot of factors that dictate the tightness and speed of the spin and I try to think about those things while spinning (if tuck in arms will spin faster for example; position of feet/heels/toes dictates tightness and if going to precess or not 🤓). Another thing that I like to do is “convert linear energy into rotational energy to stop” so less sliding and more spins to save my wheels to last longer lol When cleaning my bearings I use two different solvents (whereas most folks use only one) to clean them extra extra well. As chemist, I know properties of both the solvents I use (Sonic cleaner and acetone) and they both work in different ways to clean certain things that get into bearings. These are a few examples! Thanks for watching/commenting and asking about science! I appreciate it! 😎

Hello again, my man! I've been following you through all these changes and broken frames, and size changes, haha. 1st) Excellent video & audio! I'd crop the bottom and top for a better 16:9 fit - but that's just me. Regarding noise reduction, your voice is easier to understand when noise reduction is enabled. But the other version is fine as well. 2nd) My feet are just a bit shorter than yours, at 265mm. I have a preorder on the Neo 1s size 41.... Based on your thorough knowledge of both FR1 and FR Neo, and the differences in length, and internal available space in the shell.. Would you go for the 41 NEO 1s, or the 40 NEO 1s? The official info says the Size 40 shells are 263mm long internally. Even assuming there's some extra space on the toebox and heel, would you go for that one, or is it too much of a close fit? Would you recommend going for your FR1 setup with intuitions instead? Thanks a lot for your videos!
@PokeProfWill
@PokeProfWill Месяц назад
Thanks so much for the comments and feedback!! 🎉 I have tinkered with 16:9 but it usually cuts out by legs; I think I need to hold camera differently to get that going well 😅 After doing a lot of research, I have read several folks on Reddit who are a few mm past the shell length for FR1s that fit in the lower shell size fine (273mm feet fitting into 270mm FR1 shell or 263mm in the 260 shell). After about 20h I could see where I could fit a couple more mm of toe length but not much more than a couple. IMO the 40 Neo shell might be the perfect fit for you. Something that I didn’t mention in video is that when your heel is lifted a tad and in skating stance your foot also retracts slightly. If possible for you to switch to 40 preorder you could test the shell out before riding them by putting foot into shell without liner to see if pressure points. For me, I put foot into wife’s 40 shell and didn’t feel any pressure points; when crammed toe against front, I had about 7mm clearance or so in back. I feel like the 41 Neos would be too big at 276.3mm shell length after break in with Intuitions if looking for a performance fit with 265mm feet. Only source I have seen for shell lengths for Neo is Bladeville at the moment, hoping more sites can confirm! Tough choice for me there at 269mm, I don’t think I’d fit in the 40s Neo at 263mm 😅
@Rafaelinux

Hey, @@PokeProfWill, thanks for your elaborate response! The NEO 1s already come with intuition liners. It's either 264mm liners on a 276mm shell (41), or 260mm liners on a 263mm shell(40). - as per FR's table sent to Inercia shop last month. I really don't want clown shoes, haha. @@PokeProfWillalso, regarding your wife's skates, those were officially "270mm" but your 269mm feet had 7mm extra available to them... If you add that up you end up with 276mm again... Could these be the same shell length in disguise?

@PokeProfWill
@PokeProfWill Месяц назад
I do not know if the 100/90 283mm frame will fit, would surprise me if it didn’t though. If you know how much that 100 wheel sticks up past top of frame (if does at all, looks like it on photos) then I could probably measure them and see if there is clearance 🙂 definitely has lower ride height; there is slight wheel groove in toe of boot to accommodate larger wheels
@PokeProfWill
@PokeProfWill Месяц назад
Also another thing I just thought of: I am riding mine with 246mm 3x110 and there is plenty of heel space and about 2-3mm clearance on toe end (really hard to measure because so close but there is space there). One of the reasons I bought the Neo 2 80s, was because the frame got the boot really close to the ground. The replacement frame I'm using on one for now is higher. I wonder if it'd make and difference tightening with a wheel in... The second one you tightened didn't seem that hard. When mine went, it didn't really pop... It just started to feel softer as it went past it's point of plastic deformation. I was riding on some cheap 90mm frames that someone in our local community lent me, and I'm probably going to end up just upgrading to those anyway, as the overall length is better for me.
@PokeProfWill
@PokeProfWill Месяц назад
Yeah it may have made a little difference to have wheel in! I didn’t really think of that. The slots that stripped never popped or anything either but never behaved the way the middle slots did in the over-torqued demonstration here (they never engaged properly after first wheel change). I really like 90s over 80s; length is better for me too and even though higher off ground, I feel more stable and faster than on 80s 😎 Thanks for the comments!

I've had very similar issues with my 4 x 80 mm frames on that version. I flipped my wheels and managed to strip one of the bolt holes, on the frame size, while tightening them up again. I'd tightened them firmly, but not anything too crazy. I've been going through Loco in the UK and they've been helpful and have sent me another FR frame temporarily, while they look into it. They've said they would only recommend tightening as much as possible, but I had the same problem as you where rings of thread ended up falling out. Thankfully, only the middle two wheels are speed bolts, so I think the front and back wheels will be fine. It's definitely knocked my confidence in the frames.

Don't treat the boot carry straps as anything strong enough to pull the boot on with too. I managed to rip those clean out, the first time I tried putting them on. They were just held in with tiny squares of stitching, though around 1mm of foam material.

Going great! Hope you are doing great as well! 🙂 FR1, FR2, and FR3 310s all have different frames but they should be safe! I have had the FR3 and FR2 frames and I prefer the FR2 over the FR3 310. FR1 310 has 230mm 3D frames - great quality frames but really short wheel base (I haven’t owned a pair of these but general consensus is that they are great but real short, often too short for large foot skaters) FR2 310 has 246mm R2 frames - great quality and a better wheel base for urban/trail skates than FR1 frames imo FR3 (and FRX) 310 has 232mm X2 frames - these frames are a little cheaper in quality than 3D or R2s but I have never had issue with them. Again these are really short wheel base like the FR1s so will be maneuverable but sacrifice stability I think the FR2 R2 310 frames are the best out of the four (X2, R2, 3D, NeoD) personally due to the wheel base being maneuverable but stable and really great quality metal like the FR1 frames 😎

Yeah the odds are pretty in favor of something funky going on there for sure. I have no idea but hopefully FR figures it out if there is issue 👍
