this needs to pop up in everyone's feed if they are just learning to ride full stop. I learnt the abs drill when I was 7, I'm now 55 and I've dropped a bike once because of locking a front wheel despite probably 100 times when I had to grab a handful of front back due to morons. when i jumped on an adventure bike it was already ingrained and i can stop faster on my 1290 ktm without abs than with it.
Incredible! I've had a years long hiatus from riding and recently found your channel. I'm completely hooked. Had to get the Motonomad series on gumroad and absolutely loving it. I'm getting back on the old DR650 "getting it done" (slowly) thanks to all of your technical tip videos.
Epic as usual and then there’s the “traffic scene” through Kathmandu at the end….awesome adventure, great footage and scenery.. your a natural old boy at just gettin it done..🤜💪👌
Well here in central Europe it is illegal to go off road - except of field roads. Is doable somewhat, but then most of the time those people really do not bring aluminium paniers of course 😀 On the other hand travelling with Yamaha XVZ 1300 Royal Star venture 2 up means easily 600kg bike, sleeping in hotels and such. Always kept stuff in side paniers only for proper weight distribution and helmets went to the top box on stops to go sightseeing. But with that you can miss a lot of places where you simply do not want to handle such bike without reverse gear. Now there will be Voge 900 DSX with a way smaller paniers. In reality I will miss just that big top box for 2 helmets, because in original only 1 will fit. Laptop will fit just fine in times when I have on-call service and still want to go on bike trip. The main point will be that it is suitable for my height and is perfect for our terrible quality roads plus it is very light so can explore way more (not like with Honda Monkey in the past however 😀). I get your point and agree completely, but as was said in a lot of regions of Europe you simply need to have hard paniers else your stuff get stolen or you will need to be all the time in motorcycle gear. Of course if it will be Australia or such regions where you have huge lands without anyone for hundreds of miles and you can actually go legally offroad it would be different story and eg. Kove Rally 450 or Fantic 450 Rally and such would be great alternative. Each region has own pros and cons and to be honest instead of going hundreds of miles on boring highways somewhere on bike it is way better to get there by airplane, train or car and rent bike at place or have it on cart behind car 🙂
So sorry to hear about your dad. He would definitely be proud of what a great father/leader u have become. Safe journey absolutely love your vids and insight new u must have been up to something cause u were sorely missed in the latest bmw rally. Stay upright
Having watched this video a few months ago, I immediately booked my tour with Top End Moto. The earliest available booking was for mid-2025 but, travelling alone, I was able to move up to May 2024 when a vacancy came up. It was an amazing experience akin to a Six Day Enduro! I made it to the tip of Cape York but my 65-year-old body took a battering.
Greetings I'm really interested in how you mounted the camera on the helmet and how you calibrated it to record correctly. We all have it on the chin area and we blocked ventilation, which is annoying for me in the summer. I myself am a cancer patient and I can tell you that you gave your father the most beautiful gift when you went on a trip together, believe me he was eternally grateful for the shared experiences. I also want (before I die) to experience such an adventure and nothing else. I wish you a safe journey!
Guess I'll be buying one of these new Himalayans later this year or next year when I'm finally done with uni. If it's good enough for the legend himself, it'll be more than enough for me. ...probably won't be taking it to India anytime soon though.
