Hi, welcome to my RU-vid channel! My content is aimed at those wanting to learn how to draw & paint realistically, improve their knowledge on materials to create the detailed artwork they can be proud of with ease.
I also create exclusive tutorials and real-time drawing videos over on my Patreon. There you will find videos of some of my most complex work, so you can see my process exactly as it happens and how I achieve realism in my drawings: www.patreon.com/shaymusart
This is incredible! Dude how do you manage these without smudging them 😂 how do you 'fix' them when they are finished?? I always find hairspray usually leaves spots
This is by far the most comprehensive tutorial on pastels I have seen. So much information that it’s worth watching multiple times to take it all in. Thank you, thank you!
I think i really did something wrong... my paper where i want to draw on is 29,5x40 cm. And i get 42 papers to print out. How can that be? Do you know what i may be did wrong ?
I have always struggled with getting the correct proportions and have used the grid method in the past but it takes WAY too long. I just tried out your method and it’s a life saver!!! Thank you for sharing
Hi Shaymus, I have just completed the 2nd year of a fine art painting degree., and I can tell you that traditional portrait /figurative and realistic art is still not appreciated as much as abstract/modern art. I was using pastels for portraits in the 70’s (Yes, I’m soon to be 70, and an extra mature student! 😁). I love your work and hope to pick up from where I left off with your expert guidance.. Your room is so organised but this is something I doubt that I could achieve as I’m your typical messy artist! You deserve any success, well done!
OMG I needed this video! Thank you for sharing your wonderful organizing ideas! Looks like I am building a French cleat easel now. Just what I needed. Another project lol.
It's just too easy nowadays 😉. I used to photograph my source image, develop the black and white film, modify my photographic enlarger so I could project the size I needed onto the floor, work out the time needed to expose the photographic paper using a strip of photographic paper and creating multiple exposures (I know this probably doesn't make sense - this is old school and a method I just worked out for myself), place numerous sheets of 10 x 8 (inch) photographic paper onto the floor, make the exposure, develop each sheet separately (or else they stick together and the photos don't work out properly), dry the paper once the image has been 'fixed', sit down at my disk and tape all of the photo sheets together (I used to tape the back so I could tape each piece solidly to the next - usually the cheapest tape I could find as it was usually the thinnest but browned within a few weeks); finally, my reference is ready. This process was particularly tricky when using a reference for an airbrushed mural on a car! I love how much simpler things are nowadays. Even that website where you can get all of the A4 pages set up; I used to calculate all of that in my head (I was a maths teacher "back in the day"). Sorry for the long post; back to Shaymus....... 😀
Superb examples of how to stay organised and have time saving and comfortable ways of working. Well explained and you actually do what you are suggesting. Detailed but steady explanations and really helpful for professional and leisure painters and illustrators alike. Thank you. Val Cansick
