Wonderful tutorial! Watching you prepare to add the whiskers had me feeling slightly anxious! By laying the piece flat and using your body to create momentum as opposed to your wrist, makes a lot of sense! Being a perfectionist can be a detriment at times, but look at the end result! Amazing!
Hi, I'm just looking at your patron subscriptions, the real time videos you do without voice over, are these from start to finish and end with a full painting please? Loving the videos here 😊
Hi Shaymus! Thank you very much for your free sharing ! I love your art 😍and your way of working ! I would love to join your patreon channel but I'm french and I don't understand english very well, by chance do you know if your videos have subtitles in french like in youtube on your channel?
I am dumbfounded at how perfect your colors are in this beautiful puppy. What do I need to do to understand color mixing, etc.?? Also, how to you get such detailed linear on the paper?
Love your stuff, very good explenations in your videos. Quick question: when using pastelmat, can u sketch the outline using graphite or do you go for pastel for that?
Thanks, I appreciate it 😊 you can use graphite but it’s hard to see unless you’re working on a light colour / white pastelmat. Graphite can also leave marks visable on the final outcome too where the pastel has a hard time adhearing to it.
@@shaymusart @shaymusart yes i saw you did mix them too like an oil paint in a pallete lol! I didnt imagine its possible too with pastels.i just wonder if i can use sandpaper instead of excess pastelmat l?
@@shaymusart you have a point. Maybe we 1000grit up can be try. if not will stick to pastelmat again. Tnx again you made my day!more power to your channel
Your art, your works are just so amazing. I was wondering, are you using Panpastel? I dont recall any video where you would mention, but based on how you applied the base here, just wondered, what is your opinion on Panpastels?
Hi there, no I don’t use PanPastel - I have nothing against them though, it’s just personal preference. I suppose my method for applying my pastel sticks in this video is very similar to how Panpastels work. Soft pastel stick brands offer a lot more variety in colour which is my main reason for choosing them over Panpastels. Also, it’s quite easy to pick up too much pigment with Panpastels as they are so pigmented, this can fill in the tooth of the paper too quickly, making it hard for pencil details to go on top. Hope this helps!
Hi Shaymu, I've been admiring your incredible soft pastel art and I'm really eager to learn from you. Your talent and skill are truly remarkable, and I would be honored if you could teach me the techniques of this medium. Your expertise would mean the world to me, and I'm excited to embark on this creative journey together. Looking forward to your guidance and wisdom. Best regards, Amar Jyoth,India
Have you experienced the challenge of achieving perfectly smooth lines when drawing with pastel pencils? No matter how sharp the tip, I always seem to get uneven color application. Any tips or insights on why this happens and how to overcome it?
Hello Shaymus. I'm learning so much from you, thank you. How do you store your pencils, by make or colour? And what sort of holders do you use? Thank you.
Hi here, so pleased to hear that! I have a studio tour video which goes much more in-depth about these sort of questions but I just use tray draws from Ikea and separate the sticks and pencils into similar colour groups 😊
Shaymus, what is your opinion of Pan Pastels? Do you find stick pastels better than Pan Pastels? (I am asking because the way you are applying the stick pastels in this video is similar to the way Pan Pastels are applied, so I am wondering why you do not use those instead. I have a large set of Pan Pastels, but will consider buying stick pastels if you think they are better for realistic animal portraits.)
Hi Derek, I’ve answered a very similar question in the comments which I will repost here: “no I don’t use PanPastel - I have nothing against them though, it’s just personal preference. Hey,do you also have tuturials on how to draw portraits of people ?🙏 i seriously adore your drawing skills but i dont draw animals its not as fun for me
Do you mean sponge? If so, typically yes, or I make sure to coat my sponge with lighter pigments before going to a light colour area. I go into details such as this much more in-depth in the tutorial 😊
Hi, all the materials are linked in the description. If you’r like the individual soft pastel sticks and pencils used, you can find that list on the Patreon tutorial 😊
@@marilyncook1643 is that on Patreon? It’s a PDF with multiple pages, first few is the soft pastel sticks and then all the pastel pencils in the end pages
@@marilyncook1643 it must be a problem on your end sorry, no one else has this issue. The PDF is named ‘Fluffy Golden Puppy Soft Pastel Sticks & Pencils Used List.pdf’ just to be sure
YOUR PHOTO or someone else that you traced from . You may be great but how well would you do in a court of law, and have to do without a tracing/ transfer and just a LIVE DOG or puppy,? This dose not really teach . It Cheapens anyone who REALLY Know the concept of the skull of a dog or cat or wild animal.
Why does it bother you so much? He's done a fantastic rendering of that PHOTO, draw a circle and see how well most people would create a realistic apple... Many of the greats used tracing to create the most iconic pieces of art history. We should praise each other as artists not berate. Best take a look in the mirror and figure out why that big fat ego and your jealousy needs to make themselves feel better 👍
