Doing this performance was the most thrilling event and twelve hour day, that I have ever spent in the theatre, including performing in a birthday tribute to the great George Abbott, working with the incomparable Lena Horne, doing Les Mis and seeing HAMILTON. Ths was an unbeliveably, phenomenal experience. If you are ever in NYC, try to see the archival video of the entire performance. I believe that it is archived at Lincoln Center Library for the Performing Arts.
I mean this is emotional because not only did Michael Bennett not survive the closing of his own show, but a message of ‘what I did for love’ is insanely bittersweet.
It shouldn't have closed. Moved to a smaller house instead of the Shubert and it run it forever. It was a low overhead show (compared to CATS, Phantom, etc.!)....generations could have benefited from its "simple" complexity.
I remember watching the VHS 📼 when I was a kid. Gold glitter was always tested to see if it was actually fairy dust. I always loved Tender Shepherd. Distant Melody always makes me cry. Now my husband requests my singing lullabies to help him sleep. Tonight he asked for a new one. Here it is. I still can't hit the low notes, but he's fast asleep all the same.
This film doesn’t get enough recognition for how ground breaking it was it really needs a light shining on it or needs to be remade in the same way with this being its main theme again
Thank you again for posting & capturing a True Moment in Theatrical Time… Re-seeing Donna give we “Cassie’s’” the OK sign after our 1st run through just put on a big smile on my face (1st time watching this footage was packed with tears down my face) Sending love to all you “Singular Sensations” and our Angels with Michael Bennett xo Cheryl Clark 🎭🎶🌈
Being Alive, Another Hundred People, and Ladies Who Lunch, are the standout songs from this album. But only Elaine Stritch is remembered. Dean Jones was in maybe 10 actual performances, and no one knows what the characters name is who sings "another hundred people" let alone who it was. I don't know if this show is what created the piece for Donna Mckechnie in a chorus line.
I never realized how absolutely gorgeous Baayork Lee was. Sheesh.. incidentally I was watching a live TV spot of Boots were made for walking with Nancy Sinatra and spotted Baayork in the dancer lineup
Im so glad I found your RU-vid. This footage that ive watched 3 times already is amazing! A Chorus Line was my second big musical my parents took me to.
@@stuartbee5716 My first musical was The Wiz back in May 1976. It changed my life forever. Im still going to the theater. It has given me a lifetime of happiness
Pam Blair is in rehearsals but didn't stick around to do the event. Looks like Mitzi Hamilton in the video of the event where the original cast is on the line. Also, no Bob Lupone.
I showed this movie to my colleague today (we're both in our 30s), she was so impressed by the acting, the costumes and the movie over all😁 I love this movie to bits since I was 14!❤
