I will forever associate THIS song with the late Patrick Swayze actor whom played the Drag Queen Ms. Vida Boheme The movie opens with him, Swayze puting on his make up and drag while listening to this song and I thought he was excellent and matched so well with the music that I cant picture anyone else doing this :) I Loved the movie and thought it hysterical but some reviews said it was too watered down and not edgy enough but I' glad it made me laugh instead of being depressed. Reminded me a bit of the great funny gay actor Harvey Fierstein putting on his drag make up and talking to the camera in the beginning of his Torch Song Trilogy movie.
I remember renting that movie with my mum, we loved it. I was actually really impressed with how each of the guys owned it (& how good do they look??!). Ru Paul is queen though
I think most of the common complaints are the fact that the three leads are never shown out of drag (the opening being the exception) and that they're stripped of their sexuality. I agree with these critiques, but I also know concessions had to be made for the mainstream being largely unfamiliar with most of the drag world at the time. "Priscilla" excelled in this without "being depressing," whereas I lovingly prefer to consider "To Wong Foo" a drag fairytale. It's highly unrealistic but it definitely opened some minds and inspired drag queens that came after it, so it accomplished even more than it was aiming for.
This film doesn’t get enough recognition for how ground breaking it was it really needs a light shining on it or needs to be remade in the same way with this being its main theme again
I wish miss Coco Peru played the role of a persistent antagonist who would periodically appear, read the three queens harshly, and then aggressively crush a plastic cup while glaring at them. Maybe in the sequel that will never happen, Coco can lead the losing queens in a crusade for unrecognized beauty. Rest in peace Patrick.
Pasquale Bucco Well, yes but Patrick doesn't look too bad. It's just the fact that John has a tiny, less masculine body compared to the other two. Plus, his Adam's apple is well hidden.
i LOVE this movie version of the song. Rachel Portman is a huge movie film composer and she may have edited this song by Salt n Pepa as many people have said that this movie version sounds different and better than the original . I went on about nine music websites but didn't find any other details than music composer Rachel Portman handled all the music for the movie and it's editing
I love that this film wasn't just 3 straight dudes in drag making crass jokes at the expense of actual drag queens, but trying it come across as progressive (much like I Pronounce You Chuck and Larry 🙄🤬). I believed that all 3 of these men were out and proud drag queens, just trying to be their authentic selves in a world that can still be so hostile and poisonous to the LGBTQIA+ community. The opening scene where this song plays says it all: two men, putting on their make- up, wigs, heels and dresses slowly, calmly and considerately, showing us that they take both pride and joy in that process, no room for shame. Ugh, I love this FILM!!!!!!!!

As someone who’s seen Blade, Jungle Fever, and New Jack City I wasn’t sure what I was gonna see. But having just finished the movie, I must say… he did great.
..then we eat the pie'sssssss. .....and then we go home. hahaha. suck a great movie, and amazing actors. I especially loved stockard Channing in this. and its great to see what Dalton got up to after roadhouse ended. HA!!
