Bautista!!! I remember my good old Rougned Odor, from my Texas Rangers knock them glasses and hat off. Boy that was beautiful watching the bigger guy try to go after smaller guy. And lil guy Roughi TKO Bautista lol Best punch ever 💪🏽😎💯👌
Glad Freddie Freemans Boi is gonna be ok. I know his oldest is gonna be a big leaguer. Like griffey jr. Found a topps chrome 2022 yadier /10 gold of some kind. Shoykd i snag it?
@@timsfgiantsmem9382 Freeman’s oldest already has some freest RU-vid moments!! The phrase you used “gold of some kind,” makes me scared for ultra modern hobby. Just too much everything. Michael Harris has like 2,000 gold refractor rookies. The printing presses must be burned out. The yadier - I’d pass.
@@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin Agreed the kid gonna be the truth! Fyi i'll still buy the yadier/10 for cheap cheap if he gives deals out. Yeah, parallels been watered down but to /10. Somebody always gonna want it prolly. I don't even know what the parallel is called 🤣👌but im in
On the soto / machado feud...depending on which Latin American country your from...often times these dudes hate each other...puerto ricans hate mexicans , Dominicans hate cubans and so on..I've played ball with latino friends and they told me this...
Can you guys make a video talking about how you guys see the future of the hobby playing out. I hope for a correction but idk if we’re gonna get one but all I can do is hope because when I see a rookie with a 200 ops and his cards are selling like he’s already a hall of famer it’s concerning if I’ll be priced out this hobby or just flat out feel like a sucker for overpaying. Blasters selling for 45 bucks. Too many scalpers, breakers, and people treating the hobby like a business. And purist folding to topps absurd prices. Will this change & get better or will it get to the point not only where we can longer justify it to our wives but ultimately to ourselves? As vets in the hobby have you guys seen these spikes and dips and we just have to ride it out or is this the new landscape of the hobby and expect more price gouging not inflation price gouging.
@@Leadoff_hitter it’s absolutely nuts what prices are for rookies and prospects. But here’s the thing - we don’t have to buy them. Jeff and I don’t. Look for more established players and you’ll be shocked to see how affordable their cards seem. Lindor topps chrome rookie auto for the price of a hobby box? Easy choice. Same with Devers. Jose Ramirez. Blasters for $45 are someone else’s problem. I’m not touching them. Take a look at rookie cards for freeman and Betts. Much better buys than current prospects or anything in 2024 topps chrome.
@@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin I opened 5 or 6, from two different Walmart locations. I just realized they were image variations a week or so ago, after going through my Duran cards. I was hoping to have a Witt Jr, but just regular base cards. I'm stoked about the Cruz and Duran cards though.
Duran has longterm collectibility within the hobby i beleive. Like jacoby ellsbury is the floor here. Red Sox FanBase are Heavy Collectors. I got a couple nice Duran cards early shoukda bought more. That window shrunk up so fast to get for dirt cheap now i actually gotta pay up to get the card i had a 130$ offer from seller on..shoulda binned it. Now its 400$
Take it easy fellas! I did not watch the live, but panic sell me all those Trouts, I am easy to find. And you 2, trade me some cards. I have plenty of Braves and Brewers. Let's get back to trades!
@@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin I will be ready. People act like he died. He cried when he got hurt this year post game interview. I doubt he will just walk away from baseball which is some crazy stuff that has been said. Even if he is a DH the rest of his career, I think 31 or 32 years old and has a lot left.
@@TheCardDeal he turns 33 next week. Chris here - I don’t know what he has left. These injuries will take a toll on his body. Maybe he can find some consistency as a LF/DH, but if he’s averaged 60 or so games the last 4 years, it feels nuts to assume he can suddenly get back to 140+ games. The retirement talk is silly. He’s not going anywhere - unfortunately that means playing out his career on a last place garbage franchise, owned by an idiot.
@@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin Well said, money doesn't get you the best team. Crazy we saw both Ohtani & Trout on the same team without much success. If he isn't the field full time, we should see better numbers. I have been buying Stanton for that reason. If he was healthy his whole career he is over 600 HR. But approaching 500 is a real possibility.
I actually disagree with you on the fan graphs thing about shortstops because shortstop is a defensive first position. So defense should matter the most at that position. Otherwise shortstops like Bogarts, who can’t play the position, will score higher than true shortstops because they’re sluggers. If you’re a slugger first, then you should be in a corner. We also have guys like Turner, who are not great at the position either but is praised for speed and decent offense. Once he loses his speed, he’ll be another Ellsbury lol Corey Seager is another one that should really be at third base. SS is a premium position for a reason. Defense is critical just like it is at the catching position. Ozzie Smith actually proves my point.
I have no problem with SS getting a defensive positional bump, like Catcher it’s a premium position. I just think Baseball Reference does a better job with that bump than Fangraphs.
@@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin I thought you meant that you felt defensive SS were not better than the ones that hit well. Remember, Gary Sanchez ripping bombs and being terrible behind the plate 🤣. Thats why no matter my boy Lindor is at the top. He does absolutely everything and has proven it for 10 years. I think he’s currently like 4th or 5th for all time home runs by a shortstop and he’s never been moved from the position like Turner, Story, Correa, Bogarts, Tatis, Ripkin, Rodriguez…. He’s also always available too. He doesn’t get hurt and that speaks volumes. Guys like Gunner are doing well now, but they’re not totally proven yet. They can get hurt or they can fall off or they can be moved from SS for someone like Ha-Seong Kim 🤣. But seriously, to be a true SS in the majors is super hard and to have a defensive wizard with offensive numbers for 10 years plus is extremely rare. They raved about Volpe and look at him now. The league adjusts to everyone so having the ability to make the adjustments back and having a proven track record trumps all the hyperbole. Lindor is like 3rd in WAR for the entire MLB and his WAR is that high because he does everything well. I love Bobby Witt and I believe he’s going to be a true shortstop for years too, but he’s still pretty fresh to the league. Lindor is already solidified. I understand we all love new toys, but we can’t discredit the body of work. That and the Mets never get any respect. 🤣 Had Lindor played with the Yankees, he would’ve practically been worshipped lol
I bought the Flagship Rookie red helmet #661 sticker Auto PSA 10 3 years ago for 2500 from a buddy in need of cash so i helped him out since ive seen only 1 other ten on ebay for 4500 then it went ta 6500 after workd series when phillies were in it it then i noticed it dissapeared now a raw i saw for 5400 looks nice fir a raw so who really knows what my card is going for i havmt seen it since after phillies were in world series
I purchased four booster boxes, two jumbos and five hobby boxes and one monster box wondering if I should’ve done something else trying to get back into the hobby got out early 90s though I have to say from the stuff I bought I’ve gotten pretty lucky with auto with numbers and I got one auto Blue I think it’s number 150 . Had the most fun, ripping open six boxes of Mattie’s 2024 prospects autos probably the best polls I’ve gotten yet. bought six boxes got seven 1 of 1 a lot number 5 of 10.
I ripped a case of hobby. It was a ton of fun but the estimated loss that I took is around $700. MVP buybacks will help a bit when that time comes (assuming it’s Ohtani and Judge). In addition there are a number of cards that will go to my PC so I wouldn’t consider those a loss. All in all, the new price points are too high for this checklist. Thanks for the content. Enjoy the education in the SP’s. I have actually found some that I didn’t know I had from your videos.
Thanks for watching and for the report! I’m glad you got a big chunk of funds back, but the full cost is a tough threshold to reach with the high wax prices!
I hope Vlad keeps it up, I have been collecting him heavily since 2019. It would also crush me if he's traded.... but I doubt it'll happen this summer.... but anything is possible. I ended up buying 1 2024 Chrome card, an Orange Chrome refractor /25 of Blue Jays Rookie Spencer Horwitz. Got it for $40 even off ebay. I figured it was worth a shot. Horwitz is having a very good first year.
As always, fun stream. Work had me so tied down Wednesday I missed your episode move announcement, so had to watch Thursday. Thanks for the Mookie Heritage Auto shout out! I think it was you guys or Scottie B that clued me into the fact Mookie had so few on card autos. Just a few catch up comments: The Ortiz cult collectors crew indeed stretches to the west coast (hint for next Thursday). While the Vlad Jr rookie SSP is great, the one Vlad Jr card I’d want above all others is the 2021 SSP, young Vlad Jr with his pops at the All Star Game. Oy boy is that one a dream card. Finally, while I had no issues with Jeff’s height reveal of 6+ feet, Chris being over 6 feet is a bit of a mind scramble, he gives off such proud short king energy. 🤣 Again, thanks for the great show!
You can't lose on buying the best cards of the best players going back in time. When a Jumbo Hobby Chrome was $150 with 5 autos..... I could see it worth a shot.... but over $500 is just stupid and with only 3 autos. Sealed product has been a bad buy since 2021.... even then maybe 2018 was the last really great year to buy new sealed and rip for fun. I did spend a lot on 20219 and some on 2020.... Sealed products are now just a breaker thing. or maybe a retail blaster. for fun.
Right there with you -- the risk/reward cost has just gotten far too high for me. Loved ripping 2018 Update blasters! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin great point! I want to see him hit the next level (And maybe he will). I also want to see more jam in his game. Yes, it’s good to see him as a player who has fun while on the field. Elly is the same; however, when he is upto the plate, his eyes flatten and he has an expression “I’m going to make you pay for pitching to me!”. The odd time Vlad will do the same but not nearly often enough,
The ken Griffey jr 3/5 red pulled by Blezbaseball was gorgeous and i ever pulled one i think i would have a heart attack . love the show guys , keep up the good work . ps my wife calls you guys bert and ernie show . im not gonna say who is who bc i dont have to lol
Today I considered dropping around $1400 on a gold chrome auto of a top guy. I then decided to look at comps of gold chrome autos of Gunnar, Rutschman, Corbin Carroll and Volpe, graded, and only Gunnar in a PSA 10 was above $1400 in recent comps. Had to tell myself to wait. It's hard to wait, but you have to if you want your money to go farther.
Completely agree with avoiding ripping 2024 Topps Chrome BUT thoughts on buying hobby boxes to hold? I could see the wax value for 2024 Topps Chrome to have a lot of potential upside given all of the rookies that have "the potential" to be future stars.
I do love buying wax to hold, so I like where your head’s at. But this is just so expensive already! Personally it would be tough for me to justify buying this to hold vs say, 2018 wax. Still, buying and holding definitely seems like a better choice than buying and ripping. Are you considering stocking up on some?
@@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin Yeah, the best price I've found for a hobby box is $205 (with a $10 coupon for being a new customer). Still, not a cheap buy, and the opportunity cost is a major consideration here as you guys pointed out!
Loved the concept of this video, and loved all of the players mentioned! Been buying a ton of JRam and Lindor rookie singles/slabs and I'm glad I've gravitated towards spending almost all of my hobby money on those instead of wax. Keep up the great content guys!
Thanks, Dee! Sounds like you’re in the same strategy wavelength as us. There are no guarantees in the card world, of course, but I like our chances better than just opening a bunch of wax at these prices!
the comment section after the show is my safe place, lol. the anxiety of being late with my commant live is too.much for my little heart to take 😂. or heaven forbid i misspell something like comment or put a period in a weird spot. lets go mets, i think 🤔
@@user-lx2nm8jl5d hey thanks for watching and for the comment. When it comes to ssp, we look for a couple things - True rarity and a great image. If the image isn’t memorable or special, then the card probably won’t be either. We’re happy to help if you’ve got more questions!
Jeff here: while Chris has been on Freeman for awhile, I’m right there with him now as one of the best buys in the hobby. He is just so consistent and I can see him playing at a high level for another 6-8 years. Thanks for watching!
I really like ultra violet from this year 2024 topps chrome. Too me they are similar to kaboom or downtown of basketball and football but way underprice
The idea seems great, but as we talked about on last week's live, some of the artwork leaves something to be desired. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Breaks my heart that Yordan autos are so cheap. It must be an indication to buy more lol especially with the consistent dominance in the batters box he’s exemplified since entering the league. Looking forward to the rocket ships Yordan sets out to launch in the years to come!
