Against Dallas the root cause was the 'rugby tackle' from Stecher, which was absolutely not necessary to give that penalty to the Stars. Then 4 Oilers skewed to the right, leaving a 4-lanes highway in front of skinner to be shot on. So don't see that as 'transition weakness'. Skinner looked really bad at that goal. After that, McDavid had a flaky pass, lost the puck and we got scored 2-0, at that point it was game over as they pushed and got scored again. The fact that the crumble like a sand-castle after they are behind, is a Knoblauch problem to solve and the ARMY of psychologists they have. For me it is training team not doing so far a good job, MORE than the players.

I really like Stuart Skinner as a character, but according to moneypuck data, thus far, he's already been the second worst goalie again this season... Yes, he was the goalie on a team that came within two goals of winning the Cup last year and even though he looked solid in the playoffs, you gotta perceive that as the oilers making it this far inspite of Skinner imo. 9/10 cases your goalie just needs to be at least one of the reasons you make the finals or win the whole thing, and I just don't think Edmonton can pull Skinner along again if he keeps playing like this

Oilers lost 3 main players. Brouchard is regressing to norm from a season 40 points higher than any other season. Drai got the bag and isn’t motivated. Mcdavid isn’t shooting. Stuart skinner was never a starter goalie. Corey Perry and Connor brown Derek Ryan are another year older. Jeff skinner isn’t going to fix this. They aren’t the same team they are a worse team
Perfectly put ! Hymans also not going to replicate last year either . Last year was their shot and they were lucky to have it . Only saw the final because they were pretty blessed with no major injuries and a Dempkoless Canucks team . There's no 16 game win streak in this team to pull them out of the hole theyre digging

Do you want Stu Skinner to leave the GOAL and go to the blueline to score a Goal with the Offensive just staring at him “ Oh yeah we’re supposed to do that! “ 😆!
This is literally the worst idea of putting nurse with anybody else on the D-core. The absolute problem is our top 6 has no confidence at all. The defense isn't as bad as we think but I know it's bad but we will come around. I hope!
agreed with all your analysis, but that only underlines that the SYSTEM of the Oilers, is not working, the recipe is no working. And that is on Knoblauch. TSN just said 'last year when Knoblauch joined, we said, the SYSTEM is not gripping yet', but now one year later, the SYSTEM should be the same. And even if you replaced pieces, the (Knoblauch's) SYSTEM should be the same. So, it means the Oilers have no SYSTEM, or no good SYSTEM, and that is on Knoblauch!
You are exactly right, the Oilers System is not being managed optimally, the Defense is collapsing and it throws off Gaps in all 3 Zones.The Backchecking Forwards are not catching up to the puck carriers because there is no Stand-Up defense slowing the opposition down for them. Thiss has been caused by a disconnect between the Offense and Defense.....one Group is following a Gameplan and one is being managed ON-The-Fly.....so this is all a Communications/Systems issue. Easy fix....Stand the Defense up @ or above the Blueline and let the hard charging Backcheckers catch up in time to save the day. I have been a Professional Online Tactical Analyst for nearly 2 decades. Its ok for the Defense to sit in their own corner to glue them together and to enhance In-Game communication in those moments , but everybody has to be on the same page in terms of Systems Management..... cut and paste this a few times and you will see positive change.
So if the offense was putting up 3 goals a game and still 0-3 because they allow 5+ goals a game is it still the offenses fault ? Defense and goaltending has always been the weakness and never gets addressed . . .
Overall yes. But in October there is more big scores than shutouts. This isn’t the playoffs. The oilers should win games in the regular season with average defense with 97 and 29 up front

I will continue to blame it because if Edmonton win the Cup it will be with their offense nothing else. 2023 VGK defense shut down oilers offense 3 of the 6 games series. Same last year with the panthers first 3 games 3 defeats 4 goals scored. Next 3 games 18 goals scored 3 wins and game 7 a low goals game and they lost. If 97 and 29 are top 3 best player, the oilers should scored minimum 4 goals per game even in defeat
@@jikoer Skinner was pulled multiple times against Vegas , doesn't matter what your offense does when your goalies getting the hook . The ONLY reason the Oilers even made it where they did last playoffs was defense , the pk and depth scoring . You'll forever be disappointed if you think offense wins championships , the entire history of sports not just hockey proves it .

Building isn't a phase; it must be an entrenched element of operations. New coming in and old going out. Keeps the roster lounger affordable and competitive. Broberg and Holloway were cheaper than Skinner and Nurse....both are younger and arguably better. Like what successive organization ever overpay?

No doubt. We'd have a silk smooth skating 2 way steady, possibly a giant Nik Lidstrom type and we insult him and let him walk. It's not that betting on Nurse is really the crime...he's demonstrated good play...but the real issue is too much money betting on a streaky ornery old horse and letting a younger horse with obviously superior upside walk was super dumb and bad business

Bouchard gave the Jets a 'lone-look' on Skinner in the first couple minutes of the game, and in several pre-saison games Bouchard passed to the opponents, or 'flakily' lost pucks behind our goal, undecidedly exited the D-Zone. I can go through every player, and every single one appears DEFOCUSED, as you say, passing wrong, being able to SKATE and move the puck, really bad mistakes, all game long. McDavid passed more to the Jets than to team-mates, Draisaitl fell 3 meters in front of Helleybuck with no one bothering him, the whole team is acting as if they haven't trained in a while!

Tony Stolarz, making his first regular-season start for the Leafs, stopped all but one of 27 shots he had faced. Skinner by contrast lasted just over 31 minutes before Coach Knoblauch had had enough and put in Cal Pickard. Time will tell if that game is simply an outlier or a sign of things to come.

Totally agree with you on that. That was on Arvidson. I feel like the coaching staff does not have the team ready to play team defence. Everything looks like a roster that has not played together & that is partially true. So much turnover. And nearly all of those players came from bad teams that do not play good team defence. All the top guys looked unfocused bordering on disinterested with puck bobbles, terrible passes and bad reads. It’s gonna improve but I envision a poor first 10 games. They will Lucky to be 5-5.

You buy into far too many false narratives. The only thing that stopped the Oilers from winning the cup was the accumulation of injuries, they weren’t whittled away by any means, they won games 4,5,6. They lost game 7 by a score of 2-1…that’s not a failing of a d that supposedly couldn’t transition. It’s a failing of any forward to score a goal. Mostly I blame the refs though for not calling everything they should have, especially when the panther literally jumped on McDavids back in the neutral zone.

Since I'm from Germany and there are no hockey clubs where I live I have never had the chance to play the game and so I cannot draw from own experiences when it comes to team tactics, set plays and underlying metrics.
