On the character growth side I completely disagree. Spoilers Varg goes from purely looking to avenge his sister to fighting with the guilt of his newly formed bonds. At the end he refuses to betray his comrades to expedite that vengeance. Elvars has a bad relationship with her father and older brother, she views battle fame as the thing to live life for. She choses her new family with the battle grim. Orka starts off ruthless and rejects help from others. Her son’s memory pushes her to be more compassionate, stepping in to help when she would have viewed it as just the brutal reality of the world she lives in. She also helps and gets help from her companions. The character growth is one of my favorite aspects of this book. It’s not dramatic, subtle decisions that the characters wouldn’t have made in the beginning of the story. This is 1/3 books and it’s clear the characters have more growing.
Ok but, he keeps getting better and better. He puts up with all of shallan's shenanigans (of all 3 of them) with love and understanding and actually wants to help her, he is there for kaladin in a way nobody else (maybe except syl) can be and is shown to be like a light in the darkness for his friend, he doesnt openly show jealousy that pretty much all his family are radiant besides him, while he understands his limitations and tries to find other ways to contribute (even though he majorly undersells himself), he still loves his father after everything and don't even get me STARYED on his bond with mayalaran. a deadeye actually actively chose him! Yeah adolin is the best.no matter who your fav character is, you cannot dislike Adolin
I personally think signing a book should be something special. Like meeting the author in an event and handing him your book to be signed. A one time experience in your life. This just feels artificial. He's signing as many books as he is capable to sign to get the maximum money possible out of the books.
Unpopular opinion but everyone has a price / value. It all depends on the bidder and the product. In your mother's eyes, you have move value than a thousand suns but to a weary stranger by the road side, your worth less than a speck of sand. A mans value is assessed by how much power they have and how much they are of service. All men serve, some more so than others.
The first prologue was meh. second one was okay, though read more like a marvel screenplay. The first chapter was not a bad intro to the main character, but then a couple hours into the audiobook when we are having the fourth fucking story intro and a restart to introduce yet another MC on chapter 2 I dnf’d. If you want to spend hours and ten chapters waiting for an inciting incident then more power to you. Some of us work for a living.
When you begin reading, there are good moments and bad moments. Highstorms and rain seasons, party time and hangovers. When you are at the 4th book, it's the everstorm, final desolation, constant sorrow, full blown dissociative identity and you find yourself wondering "how did i get to that point?" "Am i even still enjoying this?" But then you hear about the 4 secret books published during covid and you just need another fix.
Man I was sooooo stoked to finally read mistborn after all the hype and I literally am stuck like 2 chapters in cos his prose is sooooooooooo bad. Feels like trying to watch LOTR but the cinematography is done by someone from the Bachelorette.
I would have to say that kaladin should be compared with vin as they are both MC, then kelsier with dalinar, since they have this epic wise mentor role.
I love love Live kelsier. Like a mention anything related to him makes me grin like a fool because he is such a great character. Ain't no way he is better than kaladin though.
Boy mistborn was great though. Like I am currently finishing rythm of war and stormlight archive IS epic and it IS one of the greatest pieces of literature I ve read but mistborn was a masterpiece in its own right. It broke my heart so many times it is criminal, but at the same time those books are phenomenal. I will probably read them again before era 3, or just to get a dose of vin, elend and kelsier
Just finished the way of kings at 1:00 am this morning after staying up late to finish. Went to bed, and then started book 2: words of radiance when I woke up😂
Dalinar and Kaladin have probably my favorite dynamic in the series. Kaladin is so snarky and angsty, and Dalinar simply ignores it and proceeds to say the deepest stuff ever. I love it.
