Many drills can be performed with the club or even hitting balls! I really do believe you can get good at this game without hitting too many balls or endless range hours.. it’s all about KNOWING EXACTLY what it is you need to feel in order to achieve YOUR BEST swing to deliver a compressed strike. Understand limitations and work through old injuries and stiffness.
You can strike unbelievable golf shots.. Trust Me.
Great advice as always. Having a maddening issue that I know you can help with. Leaving myself a lot of 30 to 50 yard shots to the green. The issue I am having is shooting the ball to the right. One would think that I am shanking the ball, but that isn’t happening. As you can imagine it is a score killer. If others that are lucky enough to see the great advice you give and might be having the same issue, please provide us with a video addressing this issue. Thanks my friend. You are the best.
@@renegade2853 100% I am! I mention this a lot in quite a few videos.. I like this for two reasons.. you get a good sense of your “load point” to turn into in the backswing, plus you set your spine angle for a turn behind the ball 👌🏼
Yep, that seems like me. 2 under gross yesterday, then it creeps in on 14th, play a par 3 9 iron, then rip it down the par 5 16th and scratch my head wondering where the hook on 14th came from
@@pukkapeter well done. Sometimes it’s a blip. You see the likes of Rory be off only slightly.. if you’re a long hitter you don’t need to be far off at all to produce this hook. Try my “blueprint” approach perhaps were you try and make your good swing a feeling you can “mark” then clone another… then another.. this is a great way of creating an intense feeling of your swing that you can reproduce. You can then understand better when your swing is a little off.
Thanks Murdoch! Exactly, ball/stick basics. "Climbing the ladder" is a real thing every day as a senior. Took a few weeks off and started winter training yesterday. Five months until the start of next season. Woot!
@@murdochmcewangolf I played today and the swing mojo was back. Pity about the 42 putts though! Always something to work on. Back to the practice green and “tap tap, tick, tock”.
Awesome tips, taking it to the Course on Friday, i was hitting it so straight and long for a few months and after watching this, yes, it seems I have drifted too far away from ball, and nasty snap and duck hooks became frequent with Driver, Woods and 3 hybrid, the short irons have been good, only hit them 90% but the long clubs, trying to give them 100% got me in trouble left and sometimes blocked right but dead straight, I haven't seen anything fade in a very long time. This duck hook sure made golf a little unpleasant. I just subscribed and will suss out more of your tips sometime. But for now, I will get closer. Cheers

Perfect! Thanks MM. I’m 63, had total knee replacement and ankle fusion in the last 2 years, i can now transfer weight through my right knee/ankle and am playing my best golf for years!!!! I love this ridiculous game……….at the moment!! 😂😂
@@glennbraiden3310 that’s fantastic! I’m delighted for you! Keep it consistent and you’ll play well for a long time to come. Don’t forget to put a little time into chipping and putting too 😉🙌🏼
I turn every club over and your point about complacency is so true. I know what to do after some good coaching but struggle to implement what I’ve learned. I shot 74 last week and this week 90 ! The difference was not sticking to routine and losing my simple swing thoughts. Any advice on engraining changes easily? A good clear video, thank you.
Excellent video Murdoch on a tension free drill! I agree that anxiety and overconfidence are also a contributing factor to tension. One thing I try to do is maintain a light grip, relaxed shoulders, and loose forearms throughout my swing. Not always accomplished, but I still strive for it! Well Done Murdoch!
Great explainations. Can start of a round playing well and then gradually start getting a few mishits and immediately try to change something in my swing rather than check my setup.
@@onealrya can you expand? I’ve got several videos on where you should feel tension (as in the correct places in your body) and drills on it.. you might even find todays one helpful 👍🏼
@@murdochmcewangolf I personally feel too much tension in my hands and arms instead of keeping them soft. A video when I started would have been helpful, but I think I’ve got it figured out now.
Great info. Would like to hear more about how “moving the left shoulder down” helps makes it easier to shallow the club in the downswing. I’ve been working on this exact issue but tend to come down way too steeply….thx much. Appreciate your videos
@@rondicicco3023 thank you! I appreciate your support very much 🙏🏼 Ok, so once you feel you’ve achieved this backswing (from what I speak of in this video) if you stay behind The Wall as you turn in your downswing thinking of left hip clearing, your left should should feel like it naturally wants to go UP (therefore shallowing the club). Please try with a few practice swings first clipping a tee peg say, while filming yourself down the line… you’ll like the look 👍🏼
Without saying so Murdoch, it appears that you are talking about relieving tension in your body with these three practice swings! Something we should all be concentrating on! Well Done Murdoch!
@@johnschwartz1536 hi John! Becoming as loose as possible yes, but mainly getting your head into the simple and clear focus of striking with a committed attempt (each time) so avoiding the “I don’t know what I was thinking of then” 😂
You never cease to amaze me as to how you remember what we worked on after all these years. I do have a tendency to take the club inside. This is part of what makes you such a fantastic teacher. Going to work on keeping the club in front of me on the takeaway. Thanks again for your assistance. Greatly appreciated. Take care my friend.
Actually I do drop kick it from time to time. You are so good.😊. Playing in the morning. I will change the ball position and see what happens. Thanks a bunch. Hope you are doing well. If you are ever back in the states let me know. Come on down to Mississippi and I can treat you to the best seafood around. Thanks again for your help.
@@MrGolff77 you’re a legend Paul! Thank you. 🙏🏼 If I recall… Be careful not to bring the club (woods and driver especially) inside too much in your takeaway… this could be it. Try my drill of “miss your golf bag back” meaning on your practice swings only with a tee in the ground, imagine your golf bag standing on your feel line to the right hand side of you at address.. do backswings feeling like you’re bringing the club back missing this. Your left should will feel it goes slightly lower in this initial takeaway move too. 👍🏼
Liking the no fuss / drama videos. I tend to clip the ball off the turf, I’ve tried striking the ball then turf , but just end up with horrible fat shots. Any chance of a video on this please.
@@Oldblokefromtipton meantime, this was one of my earlier videos on the fat / heavy strike. This could help meantime before I put a new video up: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AKg_XqTi9hI.htmlsi=-5Y9tGMdg9GsfpBh
Great information my friend. Question! If you are someone that has a tendency to hook their driver other that not turning your hips through the shot could be teeing up the ball too high be another culprit? Thanks a bunch. You are the best.
@@MrGolff77 hello buddy! Good question. I need to know how you’re striking the driver and what height you have the tee now. If you’re striking it well of a very high tee and it’s duck hooking then, you’re hands are having to been too active.. lowering the tee and getting a solid strike should result in quieter hands.
Thanks for the quick reply my friend. Guess I should have given you a bit more background. I was hitting a 10 degree driver with a pretty big head and a light shaft. I was getting back spin when the ball landed instead of over spin. I started using a 8.5 degree driver with a heavier shaft and I started hitting the ball 30 to 40 yards further. But when I struggle I have a tendency to hit a pull hook. I know from your videos the cause is over active hands and not enough rotation with my hips through the down swing. I hit everything high. Even with the shorter tee I can hit the 8.5 driver a mile in the air. So getting the driver in the air is not a problem. Would going back to the 10.5 degree driver lesson the chance of hooking the ball. There are day I hit the driver great and there are times the pull hook is a nightmare. 😂. Thanks for all you do. Appreciate it greatly.
@@MrGolff77 do you occasionally “drop kick” it ? (Ground first). Check you ball position and although slightly unusual, try moving it back 1/2 inch. Also, try and re feel these good shots on the range with a clear understanding of what FEELS different in the swing to produce these better shots with the driver. 2 in a row.. then 3 etc. email me your swing Paul 👌🏼
Great Information , I manage to go to a range maybe twice a week for 50 balls and with english weather play if im lucky twice a month. A reliable playable swing is all most of is want, remebering the basics is always a great refresher. look forward to more videos
@murdochmcewangolf Playing this Sunday! Will check out the channel enjoyed this information going to remeber body rotation basics down the range tonight. It's all to easy to forget and become stiff and let the arms take over!!
As an American who grew up playing baseball, yes. Most of us hit our irons okay, but the real struggle comes from driver. The driver, in your mind, feels more like a baseball bat because it's longer and the idea of "swinging for distance," instantly kicks in the engrained "homerun" baseball swing. Its annoying and a hard habit to break.
@@ToddPlaysGolf I completely understand. I’ve had a few clients over the years that have played baseball to a high level before taking up golf. @@bernardpeyton108 it’s a little subjective.. but for 90% of golfers, I’d have it between middle and left heel.. where your hybrid might be and just an inch behind your 3 wood.
Great advice as usual my friend. You are so correct. Played baseball many years. Hard to get the baseball swing out of my golf swing. You are the best.
Hi Murdoch, Great video. Swinging from the inside I'll usual get the shanks in March after a few months of range practice. I know it's coming, it's just part of preparing for the season. I call it reaching max Q and do exactly what you say to fix it except I don't use a water bottle. May need to try that as long as I'm not shooting water bottles out onto the range, lol. I'll also line up on the hozel and hit circus cuts. It probably is fixing path or forcing the swing more upright (don't really know). It's part of every season and I don't take it personally or allow it to change my confidence. It's just a calibration issue. Thicker grips, especially under my right hand will cause shanks, no idea why. It just does. Thanks for posting, Awesome channel!
@@jefflucas6062 thank you Jeff! I’m thinking the fatter grip under the right hand will be ok if you clear your hips faster.. (as fatter grip will generally slow down the hand release). Thank you very much for your kind words and support 🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@seanduffy7730 not a big snooker player, but what I’m trying to make clear here is that golfer needs to concentrate on the process and not the result… try and ‘clone’ the putting stroke and commit.
It is a wonderful practice or warm up drill. If your stance is narrow you can't swing out of sequence without losing balance. I've recently started doing it more and more, it really helps me.
This is exactly my issue with the course. It's so strange that this video popped up without me even searching for it. I can't wait to give this a try today. Thanks!
@@JamesBrock72 thank you for your comment James! I hope it works right out the gate. You might need the mind set of thinking 3/4 as it’ll feel quite restrictive.. so don’t fight it 👍🏼
Excited for this. A looooong swing has been killing my driving for years. I just don’t know how to stop … out on the course it becomes my default on the tee.
@@JR-rr7mx thank you for your comment. Give this ago on my turn drill, then with a club have in your mind 3/4 (as it will quite restrictive instantly) hope it helps you 👊🏼
Just had to reply…..so glad to find a fellow Murdoch to help with the most inconsistent part of my game. Are you a Scotsman ? Descendant from clan MacKinnon, Isle of Skye here.
@@murdoch4th I’ve never met another Murdoch before! Yes, might late father was Scottish.. Isle of Skye must be very beautiful on a fair weather day. Thank you very much for messaging!
i was banging my drives for a while and thought i had it down and slowly it got worse and worse with exactly what you said. Hooks and pushing it high to the right. Your explanation was spot on
I used to choke down on my driver and really preferred how that felt. Then a couple years ago I got away from it trying to get more distance. However, no more distance consistently came but I'm still using all the club. In today's round, I'm going back to a choke up driver again. One thing I've been wondering with this is whether it would be better to choke down on the driver or just get a shorter length driver?
@@Nick-kq2sw thank you for the message. I’d definitely choke down and maybe put reminder tape at the top of the grip so you’re not tempted to go full length again. Cutting down can sometimes affect the shaft flex and swing weight to where the club won’t feel the the same
@@murdochmcewangolf Yeah, will do! Crazy game because choking down use to get me around 70% fairway accuracy. Now I'm around 55% (and don't hit it any farther). Need to keep telling myself... choke down, choke down, choke down!
