I was born in the forest and raised by wolves. Now I teach English on RU-vid. I also discuss all things related to the English language. When I'm not on RU-vid I run an English language school in Paris called LetThemTalk. Be gentle with me I'm a very sensitive person.
Delaware is NOT Native. It comes from the British Lord, Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr, who was major sponsor of the London Company, which settled Virginia starting in 1607. Baron De Lar Warr served as the governor of Virginia from 1610 to 1611. Also, the Pilgrims were NOR Puritans. They were Separatists, who wanted a completely separate church from the Anglican, whereas the Puritans wanted to "Purify" the Anglican church from Papist practices. The Separatists were severely prosecuted, even by Puritans, hence they fled to Holland first, and then to America. Eventually, under Cromwell, the Puritans "won".
He doens't know how to say Xhosa clearly . May bantu languages be taken seriously as Afrikaans once was and English is now and become a lingua franca as Hindi is to India + English the global language. It's all about mindset and financial power
Do you know Tamil fully without any grammar mistake. Likewise we too do not know English as a whole. Languages are uesd to in the way of expression for coveying messages from one to others. That is enough.
English after all a language only enough. We have to communicate with others. Why doi you worry about grammar and pronunciation. Orthodox english is different from the English now in England. Even if the English people do not bother about the original English why we indians do it. Languages are after all that they are invented by the we human being so what dont boost your own language is great one itself. The original English is the combination of greek latin and many languages. So don't bother about anything. 👌ok
On the aspirated consonants, like p k etc The reason they're not aspirated in Indian pronunciation is because there are letters in various languages of India where the aspirated versions are different sounds in the local languages so we're more attuned to the differences between phapher and paper. One example of it comes from Hindi where kana and khana completely different words so And in there KH is not the hard German glutral sound that is sometimes anglicized as kh from hindi and urdu words (e.g. last name Khan)
Town means a town. City means a city. Village means a village/country side. After you are done laughing please proceed to read below. How would a villager say that he/she was not there yesterday? I was out of village!!!. How about a city dweller. I was out of city!!! So station helps in maintaining you were away from his/her habitat. It might have origins in East India postings but the way we perceive it is not in dwelling place.
My native language is Spanish, and I try to emmulate RP to the best of my habilities, I am currently doomed to work at callcenters, and some American customers are irritated by my accent, so whenever they dare to complain about my non American accent, I tend to reply with a praise for RP that heavily implies American dialects, specially the southern ones are inferior versions of English. So I fight racism with classism
Remember what prof Higgins in pygmalion lamented about? Why does English need letter e in many words like one, shoe, where…English because of colonialism is now accepted the world over. It is one of the youngest languages of the world with no meaningful grammar and guidelines to pronounce a word. It got vowels and consonants mixed up. There is no uniform ending sound of consonants..e.g.b, h, k, q, ..in all Indian languages definite ending sounds are there..ga, ha, ka, etC
Me as a latin american, i have tough time when I need to call india for technical support. I understand like 40% of what they say. When they start to speak fast, I don't understand a word. it's like another Language.
Damn! I have no idea at what time in my life I switched from Programme to program! 🤯 My English is a spaghetti made of 10 years of British English at school and 20 years of American television and movies.
That's it how i brew the Black tea. Loose tea is much better. It's not so bitter but the secret is to put much more of tea than in a bag. And for a chinese black tea use the water 93 degrees
Rather than doing such deep analysis it is better easy to learn Indian scripts and letters then you will understand difference between da of dhol, da of dhamaka, and da of dil. Similarly ta of tick-tick to tha of tamacha and others. Infact if you want to learn English in British English, write it in your native Indian language and you can learn better accent than learning these aspiration and woaaater whatever.
There are many versions of American English. From Maine to New Orleans, from California to Texas, and everything inbetween. Some states are big and diverse enough to have several different versions of their own accents. Then there are weird ways of speaking all over the place like vocal fry or valley girl talk. I once knew a girl who came out to California from Boston area. What we call a purse in California, she called a pocket book. But with a New England twang. A truck in California is called a Lorry over in England.
eggs are not meat, eggs are not vegetables, so nonveg is a more inclusive term. Another example: I don't think you'll call lard as meat however it is non veg.
I was born in… let’s say, a poor area with an accent strongly looked down upon. My poor mother purposely changed her entire dialect so I would learn to talk in a way that the wider world would take me seriously.
"DIS DAT DEES & DOSE that's the way the TH goes!" I remember us saying that back in the 60s & 70s. I am from Dun Laoghaire but I never replaced the TH with a D or T. More so I pronounce it with my tongue against the inside of my teeth (rather than pushing it outside between my teeth) which gives it a harder sound BUT softer than the D or T sound. This actually made it easier and better when I moved to Italy and learned the language as the D & T sound is made with the tongue just behind the teeth! So I didn't speak "molto pittoresco" as the Italians say about foreigners speaking Italian and adapting the DIS DAT DEES & DOSE pronunciation!
Suppose : You say: Ajay pandit... English. Awjoy Pawndit..Indian. Good name: is full name with heritary surname..Ajay Pandit. Pandit will be heritary from paternal family. Name or nick may be ojju or purray. 🧡👍
I think the "good name" part is cultural, to show respect --- in Mandarin, you would ask "what's your great name" (nǐ jìao shěnme míngzi) to the person you have just met... same with referring to people as uncle, aunt, sister, brother --- out of respect or in an attempt to sound more casual depending on the situation
I'm making an internal tutorial video on how to set up a convention booth. We're mocking the old Goofy "How-to" cartoons and I need to learn how to use the accent for the VO. This video is a lifesaver!
