A bit of a "gamble" isn't Guy for Rick to try for Open qualifying? 😂 God forbid you bring that terrible 3 wood with you Rick also. Get that short game buttoned up.
Taylor Mooch went for the cash and now cries foul because he doesn't get world ranking points to qualify for majors. I say too bad greedy boy, ye reap what ye sow- hate the invite by the PGA of America, poor show
Do you not have to be a scratch golfer, to play The Open qualifiers? There's no way Rick is handing in his score cards, if he's a scratch golfer. Not a chance.
In regard to the distance chat, it is now more important than ever for a "normal" golfer to get into the speed race with proper training. I'm 47 and play interclub here in NZ. I'm currently playing off a 6 - 7 handicap. As you move through the handicap range and play different grades it is very noticeable the distance difference as you play better and younger people. It feels like people are hitting it further, which would appear to go against the stats that keep coming at us. Also to note is the short game tends to be quite sharp. With the cost of golf. It is definitely getting too expensive. The cost of the current AI Smoke Driver is $1270.00NZD. Iron sets, TM P790, $3000 NZD. Those 2 prices are what I would consider the norm if you wanted new gear. Our 2nd hand market is still very overpriced, so it's not that easy, even for someone getting into golf to do it cheaply. I've been playing golf for 8 years or so and my membership has increased year on year apart from 1. A bucket of balls at the range is now $20 when it was $12 when I started. There appears no end in sight to the constant price increases.
Guy if you read this your an absolute muppet. And rick you have no chance. Absolutely no chance. Not even a scratch golfer. Not even club pro standard.
Ive watched so many videos of professionals who say that under tour conditions most low/scratch HCP players wouldnt break 100 so it would seem that if RS tries out, the pressure is actually off.
At the end of the day, if Rick wants to go for Open Qualifying then so be it. He’s got every right as does every player that meets the criteria (myself included). Just hope he’s playing at Hesketh so I can grab a couple of Guinness’s with him after 👍🏼
A few years ago there was a massive fan backlash against Guy for dismissing Petes attempt to qualify for the Open. Pete had a better chance than Rick does! But now Guy is in favour of Rick attempting to qualify by framing it as a 'break 75'. If all Rick wants to do is break 75, perhaps he can play the courses on days when there is no competition. The whole conceit of break 75 is a bit meaningless anyway. It doesn't matter if he 'breaks 75' or not.
If the goal is to grow the sport and attract new young golfers...then golf is definitely too expensive. When the Boomers are past playing age, the financial chickens will come home to roost.
Can’t help but disagree with the idea that golf, in general, isn’t becoming too expensive. There are definitely areas that are less impacted, but being located in Arizona, it’s become egregious. Courses that cost under $50 a round a few years ago are now costing over $150, a local country club’s initiation fee was $1,800 and now over $20k, and the examples go on. If you’re in an area that hasn’t seen this shift, consider yourself lucky.
I like watching this channel, but I'm always shocked how little they understand about why people watch them. Yes, I do care how well people play (otherwise I won't watch), and I am guessing I am not alone. I watch YT channels for the more personal angle though, and because golf broadcasts are pretty boring to watch.
This has to be a joke. You must recognize that you aren’t even close to being the best RU-vid golfer and now you want to qualify for the Open? Please save yourself the embarrassment…hell you are not much better than Guy.
So tell us Guy, does Rick need to "know his limits" like you told Pete? Or is it different this time because it's your boss who can't break 75 on camera? Crazy that you two could previously try to gatekeep qualifying events for an event open to Amateurs, double down on your statements, then turn around and make hypocrites of yourselves 2 years later.
Awsome Rick !! Confronting a fear, showing your own conviction to the sport of golf - and remember even through you have build a career around the sport - now you could very likely be not around it but directly in it - I personally believe in you - and remember only at the presuppose we change - Good luck
The aforementioned James Robinson said it comes down to how mentally strong you are. Its not a skill issue. You gotta be able to play best golf under extreme pressure and you are playing for your dinner. You need to get real success fast because you are burning money like crazy.
Why not. fair play. You would every year surely as your 2 rounds away from a major. Also don’t get nervous. Literally everyone thinks your the worst golfer on you tube so why on earth would you be nervous. Just prove everyone wrong 🤷🏻♂️
super bad idea in my opinion. If you just want to play go ahead but you're wasting money big time. We have a pro golfer in VT here and he would kick you around any golf course. He averages 8 under over 12ish courses. He's god damn amazing and he can't qualify.
Moaning about paying staff for bank holidays shameful I feel sorry for them standing for hours and hours while you hack around different courses think they deserve a break yer tight git.
These RU-vidrs have to stop wasting time trying to qualify for the Open. I’ve known loads of guys much better who never got close to making it. Even if you’re good enough, you need to beat about 200 other players who are just as good. Not happening.
Really surprised about Guy thinking golf is not expensive. Here’s just two examples of how much green fees have gone up. Course A used to be $35 with cart, but now they want $110. But hey they’re throwing in the cart. Wow! Course B is even crazier, whereas $50 with cart is now almost $300. Unfortunately it’s driven by demand and all the courses charge whatever they can. It’s really sad here in the USA.. 48:14
