I didn't realise just how tough Saddlers Wells was, over 8 & 10 furlongs was outstanding. The 12 furlongs he could do as well being so unlucky beating all bar Tenoso in a stellar King George
I wonder why he started drifting across the track in his Arc ? Was that the direction to the stable after the race maybe 😂 Yeah crazy he won the Epsom Derby & Arc at a canter.
RIP Danedream, you won me 35K when you won the King George in 2012. This performance in the arc proved to me, you weren't no 9/1 shot at Ascot, you stuck your nose out for me at Ascot and helped me find 2 other dream horses that day, Field of dreams who won the International and I have dreamed who won at Market Rasen, i also had Premier Dane that day, a great day, thanks to you, bless you Danedream 🐎👏🏻❤️
Pebbles doing what she did in the Champion Stakes was just ridiculous. Slip Anchor Derby winner & Commanche Run. Amd the Breeders Cup what Pat Eddery did having the chuckies to ride her the way he did. Outstanding girl.🙏💜💜💜
sadly he didnt race again, so its impossible to tell how good he was. Other horses have won the derby from way back in the field in the straight tho, such as Troy and lamtarra
Lester my hero growing up , what a jockey he waited until the last second to pull the trigger and let the horse go . Genius. Showed them Yanks , William Buick and Ryan Moore do the same now . Good old Lester was the cry from the happy punters at Newmarket as he booted home yet another winner . What memories.
Back in the good old day’s when the Epsom Derby winner was considered the best horse in Europe, that’s changed recently for two reasons, one when a certain horse didn’t win a Derby and two when Aidan O’Brien started dominating the race. For some of us who’ve been following racing for 6 decades the Epsom Derby is still the hallmark of greatness.
saddlers Wells reminds me of his sir Northern Dancer. Most people think of them as a top sir but they were monsters on the track. Their records speak for themselves
This was the only occasion that Peter O'Sullevan was totally wrong in his commentary. Sea Bird was NEVER some way behind them as O'Sullevan stated. Sea Bird was in the first 6 throughout the race. There is a much clearer video of this Arc made by a Japanese film crew, and it clearly shows that Sea Bird was up with the pace throughout the race.
Soumillon didn't know about Orfevre. He has a tendency to lug in on the home straight, and he loses motivation when whipped. It can be said that he lost because the trainer and owner changed from a Japanese jockey to Soumillon without communicating with him.
Best ever ? Not sure about that, 2nd and third in this race were rated 113 and 108, fodder to Frankel, no Brigadiers in there, he was kept in his comfort zone by Sir Henry, a truly brilliant trainer, had he took on a Mill reef, Dancing brave or sea the stars over 12F his winning streak would have ended. You cant compare a Queen Anne with an Arc or king George...also Sea the stars guineas was 2 seconds faster the Frankels, greatest race hmm dream on Frankelfiles..
The maestro at work.....hands and heels.....the supreme judge of pace - he knew what his rivals had left and, acutely aware of Sagaro's capabilities, let him canter home. What a jockey - the best there's ever been!
