The Hoeffka channel allows me to share my travel experiences. Travelling usually involves camping in a travel trailer for up to a few months at a time, but it may also be a day trip in the car or a walk on a nearby nature trail. I particularly enjoy watching all sorts of wildlife and finding a quiet, relaxing place to enjoy a scenic view. Other activities and events that I find interesting, such as an air show or a balloon festival, may also become the subject of a video. You never know what to expect on Hoeffka TV!!
The next few months will be interesting with fall migration having already started. A lot of migratory birds passing through and Exploration Green is a magnet that attracts them. Exciting times!
😂 I was actually wondering if anyone would notice.😂 Well, it's a story that's a bit long but since you asked, here it goes. I had just returned home after traveling for a few weeks. When leaving for an extended period, however, I fill up two large box feeders that replinish themselves and place them on each side of a shepherd's hook. Usually, I put a day's supply of seed in a flat basket feeder each day. In this case, because of the weight, one side was leaning a little too much and I was worried about it falling in the direction it was leaning. So, I happened to have a few one-pound weights around just in case I ever needed them and it turns out I did.😁
He’s a member of the heron family, but not a larger member like the Great Blue. He’s much smaller in size like a Green Heron or a Little Blue Heron. In terms of backyard birds, he’s bigger than a Robin, but smaller than a crow.
She surprised me too. After watching her feed the chicks so diligently for 15-20 minutes, she just snapped. Still don't understand why. Thanks for the view!
Was leaving my development the other day & spotted a Gator sunning himself on the pond not far from the pool house. First time I’ve ever seen one & no it’s not a rarity I live in the south. Each pond has a gator warning sign. I used to carry my camera in my car. Would have been a nice shot. Have subbed & look forward to watching your videos!
Would you be able to add location & names of shots? Fabulous shot of Hummer. I shot one & low and behold he was taking a wee☺️. Sometimes timing is everything when capturing nature!
Being at the right place at the right time is a large part of getting a decent photograph. Sometimes, it's pure luck and other times patience is a big factor. I recall sitting on a bench at Quintana overlooking the pond when I noticed the small little hummer perched on a branch above. The hummer stayed around for quite a while at times sticking out its tongue! Thanks for viewing the video and the comments.
Feel sad for her. Do you think she knows how to fly back? This year I designated a part of my garden with a variety of Pink Flamingos objects. Tastefully done. Yep guest bathroom has a Pink Flamingo theme. My business is called 🦩. Have always been fascinated by these birds. Loved this segment👏.
@gracie2298 - I'm afraid after vacactioning in Port Aransas for a few months, the beautiful flamingo appears to have gone with the wind, flushed out perhaps by Tropical Storm Alberto which passed by the area early last week. I haven't seen her included on any ebird.org observation list for about 3 days. Hopefully she got out safely and will find a new home soon. There were 4 flamingos observed near Galveston Bay for several days before Alberto and they are also now gone. Hopefully these wandering birds can eventually find their way back to their original home one day. Thanks for watching my video!
I saw that Florida has 104 Flamingos which arrived because of a hurricane. I was hoping that we could arrange transportation to get her from either Port Aransas to Galveston Bay or Miami. I don’t usually advocate interfering but a single Flamingo is in too much danger of being harmed. I hope that the five Texas flamingos find their way to a safe and bountiful place. Thank you for posting! My father was in the US Navy and while stationed in Corpus Christi, I was born at the military hospital. Growing up during the time when westerns were very popular and Roy Rogers was the childhood hero, I fancied myself to be a “real cowgirl” although I hadn’t lived in Texas since I was four! My parents supported the notion, getting me a cowgirl outfit, complete with a pair of six shooters, a holster and cowboy hat. They had my photo taken on a pony. UPDATE 6/24/24: The Port Aransas flamingo has returned to Leonabelle Turnbull sanctuary where she is an absolute star! The Galveston 4 are still at large and hopefully staying safe.
Wow! This beautiful bird is unusual for that particular place. Probably, she/he had a very long flight to land there. Flamingos usually stay in flocks, it will be boring for bird to stay along... :-)
Anatoliy, Thanks for watching. Agreed, she probably won't stay too much longer. She does seem to find plenty of food, hardly ever bringing her head above the water.
Aw, I've been there many times. Loved the place. Had several life birds + saw that giant alligator there. Wish I could go back. My wife didn't like Port Aransas, not enough for her to do. Not sure if I'll ever make it back. Dang it.
@OspreyFlyer - Thanks for watching. Yes, indeed, aside from the Flamingo, a wonderful sanctuary. "Boots" the giant alligator is still there, resting under one of the observation decks. He must be 12 feet long. Yikes! Hopefully, you can figure out a way to make it back there one day!

Thanks for viewing my video. Limpkins are new to our area. Two pairs of adults took up residence on the local pond about 6 months ago or so. Chicks of the next generation were born over the past 5-6 weeks. They seem to be settling in just fine and are a joy to watch. Thanks again!
