Welcome to the channel! I've been a pilot since 2014 and got my instrument rating in 2018, but recently got into flying taildraggers. It is a BLAST! There are a ton of spots in Central Texas to explore. Texas is 99% owned-land, so I thought it would be hard to find places to explore and land, but there is a health community of people that allow you to land on their property. The Texas Agritourism Act protects properties owners from accidents that happen on their property given that they follow some minor requirements.
I'm assuming you shouldn't try to get out by banking right.. as it would increase the angle of attack of the left wing beyond the critical angle which would force you into a spin earlier?
Oh I definitely LOST speed with the new prop. 😔. I need to look into some other options or get another Duc Flash 3. With that I could cruise around 95-100mph all day long. The Kiev is more like 85mph. 🤦♂️ I do get more thrust on take off though.
And by new prop, I mean old. Haha. The Kiev was originally on a plane and the last owner added the Duc to get more speed on the trip home from Oshkosh.
Trying to use ailerons in a stall/spin can make the issue worse. The purpose of this video was to highlight the importance of rudder at slow speeds. I was also pretty close to the ground so I could descend too much more.
Oh yeah, flying. That's a good idea. I should also look into that. I'm actually just worried about getting the niece through her ppl training before she leaves for college next fall. I'm paying for half of it so she get's my flying money right now. LOL Glad you are back up and at it.
Wow!! Lago Vista airport has grown! Last time I was there not much was there. It was one row of 6 or 8 hangars next to the runway and that was it. Of course this was 30 yrs ago. As for the plane I forgot what engine you have. So a quick walk around video would be cool.
I've see that we all pull back in these conditions, making stall condition worse, i've done it myself coming back at Vr speed although there was no reason for it. It's strange and in the situation, we instinctively pull and that's making condition for engaged turn. Odd, any training existing for this ? Regards Jean-François
Risk it or you're not using it? Sounds like a pathetic excuse.. for incompetent flying. You're one of the reason the FAA gave us so many restrictions !! Silly old pilot saying.. There are old pilots and there are bold pilots.. But there are very few old bold pilots.
The left aileron is deflected down during this event. DONT USE AILERONS DURING A STALL!!! This increase in AOA due to the left aileron being deflected downward is the reason the left wing is trying to suck you into a spin.
YOU ARE RIGHT! The point of the video was to highlight the importance of RUDDER as well at slow speeds. It wasn’t an instructional on stall/spin recovery. We could argue about whether it was effective or not. 😂
Stuff like this is exactly why when I go exploring, I go on a dirt bike and not an airplane, even if it's statistically less safe being on a dirt bike, there's a lot more to explore on land than in the sky and unless you fly off a cliff or something you'll never have to endure the seconds of pure terrifying fear a plane can put you through, jeeesh no thanks.
The only thing that scared me kind of bad is I lost a Magneto. Engine sound changed and got my attention cycled the mags that was in the checklist all power was lost, don't remember if it was left or right, quickly turned the key back to the other or both It's been so long I can barely recall. Anyway engine sprang to life and I hauled ass back to the airport!😂😂😳😲
Close to entering an incipient spin. It happens excatly on base turning to final when you bank and apply back pressure. Applying right rudder in a left turn is very dangerous. An uncontrolled sideslip has caused fatalities in the past. I think a UPRT course should be mandatory even for PPL and ULL.
Lots of lessons learned from this situation and more after I posted the video. You’re right. Almost an incipient spin. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I crashed on my first airplane flight. Found myself upside down being supported by seat belt until dad cut my free. We both thought pilot was dead! Then my best friend crashed his plane after brakes were worked on, killing his passenger. Then another friend was killed in crash when he crash a airline that usually carries 60 after maintenance. His son was going f with him until pilot stopped son at doorway. Telling son to wait for checkout flight. Then son watched dad crash in fiery crash at end of runway in Billings Montana.
Cool. Thanks for watching. Sorry I didn’t die for your viewing pleasure! Make sure you apply forward pressure, reduce power, and opposite rudder! It’s the opposite rudder that most people done know about.
Once you know how slow you can fly at altitude you know it will fly slower closer to the ground. Get a crop duster or aerobatic pilot to show you a spins and recovery. Spins are fun, they are nothing to be scared of.
Not afraid of spins. But certainly don’t want to get close to one so close to the ground. At the same time, this video was a LONG time ago. Learned a lot since then.
Every pilot should learn spins and spin recovery. I knew a pilot that did spins every time he rented a 152. He also would fly a foot off the runway down the centerline with the stall horn blaring. Too bad basic flight instruction doesn't teach folks how to fly slow.
Go out to your practice area, uncontrolled airspace, get up around 3000ft , chop the power, slow the plane down, pull the stick back , come on till full power a little right rudder , keep the stick back, stay on a heading, with the stall warning blaring, SEE HOW SLOW YOU FLY .if it stalls recover and get back to the slow flying. If it spins its opposite rudder stick forward, back up to slow flying. Try this with different flap settings. Get to feel , know your aircraft.
Why? People think these light helmets are some magical protection for heads. There are very few scenarios where a helmet is going to save you in an airplane.
Said luck. There's no such thing as luck nor "CO"-incidence, "HAPPEN"- stance, "A"-Theist etc as they're all contradictions upon pronouncement as God's existence is proven. As you learn in basic logic... everything has a cause, which itself disproves all such notions and which subsequently is HOW God's existence is proven. They've taken the proofs for the existence of God out of modern DEeducation but the proofs for the existence of God are a staple in any undergraduate philosophy tract. They're called St Thomas's 5 proofs. You can't get to Catholicism the One true faith via logic alone but the sheer existence of God and that He must, for example, be One, IS proven. Here's one. You see that things have a cause. If you don't assent to this you're simply a liar. IF you don't have a First Cause of all, Himself Uncaused, you have an infinite regress of causes of effects and never getting to the First Cause you never get in reverse logic to what you see today by necessary result of this infinite regress. The infinity (i.e. NEVER ending of causes) creates an insurmountable gap because of it's inherent infinity insurmountable to suffice for the existence of anything you see that exists and has a cause of its existence. There MUST therefore by necessity exist a FIRST Cause that is Himself Uncaused Who is God. You're welcome
