Based in Sarasota and drawing from Tampa Bay to Charlotte Harbor, we're a club of fly fishermen and -women dedicated to advancing saltwater fly fishing in both local and distant waters. We also provide a forum for people at all levels to expand their knowledge and experience.
Established in 1992, our club became a charter chapter of The Federation of Fly Fishers (IFFF) in 2005.
Great job, please keep sharing. Also a bit of advice for your essential tremors, get a extra strength multi B vitamin. They are water soluble and you pee out what the body does not need. If you can stand liver eat a couple ounces a day.
Get real! I apply a drop of resin and hold my little bench light($12) on it for 15 seconds like the instructions dictate. It's hard as a rock in and out and a quick wipe with rubbing alcohol removes any surface residue.
Sometimes in the mangroves there is giant schools of immature sardines, and tarpons don't chase anything else. So, little sardine patterns are the only solution.
Very inspiring this vídeo. I used it some 4 years ago, tyied many streamers based on your advices. Since the pandemia took place I didn't tie a single fly. Now I came across with this video and decided to congratulate you. Thanks for your inspiration.
I am wondering if there any decent 1w, replaceable battery powered sort of units? Do I need to know the chemistry of the resin I use so I can pair it with the light source? I only tie for myself so the light would not be used a lot. Looking for something low cost and reasonably effective that does an ok job.
To make Fly Tying is the degenerate and I don’t know what the other adhesive is if you could share that with me appreciate that and I’m going to make some goop tonight👍👍
My tying background is essentially self-taught, before the RU-vid availability and in the small mouth areas of the country. I started watching you on the Prince of Tides video and have watched several others. I returned to Florida a while back, I'm getting back into fly fishing and fly tying for both in-shore and fresh water fishing, and wanted to ask your expertise regarding hooks, primarily. I've been tying some salt water patterns with mustad o'shawnesey (sp) 1/0, 2/0, and 3/0 hooks. Is there a problem using inexpensive and readily available hooks over ordering specific hooks for fly tying (less available and often more expensive)? There may be something I'm overlooking.? The videos I watch for patterns always mention specific hooks, threads, etc. that have to be special ordered. Not a big problem but one could go a bit mad trying to obtain every type of hook and material. Thanks for the videos, well presented. and thanks for your time. I'm in the Crystal River area. mike_dameron@yahoo.com ( retired, USAF)
Great vid. I love to see somebody as thrifty and as inventive as I am. I have found that clear laquer works pretty good for most flies I make. I bought a quart about 20 years ago, and I still have about half. The plastic lid cracked on the thinner can, so that disappeared while I wasn't looking. Is shoe goo about the same as that goop stuff you are using? I have a couple of tubes of that just lying around and need to find a use for it.
I hav an old CD where Lefty and Clouser tie their flies. On the deceiver Lefty developed he just rips a small bunch of feather for the tail.... a clump. He doesn't clean it up just ties it in down and dirty. I've tied it both ways the down and dirty method actually has better action. Your site is one of my favorites. Thanks
