Question for ya: what’s currently a good price for a mid mileage, pretty much loaded ZO6? I’ve never really looked into them and I’m still trying to dial myself into the prices. But I keep running into these dealers and old guys saying stuff like “ohhh this one is 90k miles but I’m selling for 45k firm since its one of 5000 for this paint code and options!”
I recently bought a C6 Z06 in excellent condition with $30K miles I decided to get the heads totally upgraded and then did the Cam, headers, big air box, cat delete, and a tune. All with Texas speed parts. The LS7 is now over 700 HP and a total monster that still gets 20 MPG!!!
the "Bad batch" excuse was some BS by chevy to take no responsibility whatsoever. EVERY LS7 ON EARTH can have this issue, without warning, and its not dependent on miles driven. can happen at 100K or 5k.
Chevy does not recommend 0W-40. The owners manual states 5W-30, not to mention the cap on the dry sump says “Mobil-1 5W-30”. I’m curious where you got 0-40 from. Even searching around on google I do not see anyone recommending anything other than 5W-30 for stock LS7’s. It’s possible that a random person on the internet recommend to another random person on the internet to use 0W-40. GM and their engineers do not recommend using 0W-40. “As shown in the viscosity chart, SAE 5W-30 is best for your vehicle. These numbers on an oil container show its viscosity, or thickness. Do not use other viscosity oils such as SAE 20W-50.”
@@MotivEngineering per GM - “Mobil 1 super car 0w40 - a dexosR - approved motor oil designed to provide maximum performance for both the track and street”
@@MotivEngineeringhopefully the comments won’t just disappear. But I linked 3 reputable sources. One being mobil 1 themselves. The other direct from Chevy. Another from GM trucks.
Great video. I am just wondering if buying a used Corvette with 60k on the clock and then extensively using the machine at wide open throttle is expecting too much from a production engine. From my own experience this seems a little hopeful. However, a blown engine is a sad day for anyone. Thanks for a very good presentation.
If you have time and money, start with 5.3 aluminum block and bore, stroke it to desired displacement. Build a nice set of heads to match. The "affordable" easy solution, drop a LS3 crate motor with the hot cam in it from GM and call it a day.
What the hell??? We have LS7 engines here in Australia with 800hp reliably, even 1100hp from Higgins Heads here in Aus is doable in NA form. Probably a bit late now, but just build the engine properly, these things can be very modified reliably. Every engine has its problems, just build the LS7.
This sounds oh so familiar. My LT4 is heavily modified, I had a water pump failure and couldn't pull over immediately, by the time I did. I had already done crazy damage. The heads had been redone with .660 springs, trunion upgrades, etc. Typical mods with a cam. Pulled valve covers, found #7 cylinder with spring still compressed, valve was missing, had the block re-sleeved, new forged rods and pistons, 3 days after getting the car back, it dropped #6 valve and beat up #6 forged piston. Found out the springs were re-used in the new heads. The shop is now rebuilding it , at their expense!!! But I don't have much trust in it at this point. My faith in my machine has seriously been disturbed, at this point im just hoping it holds together. The fast car effort is seriously overrated in my mind, at least until I can gap somebody and put it back into perspective.
The head Corvette tech at GM said the valve drop issue occured only on a small handful of engines first produced in 2006. The problem does not exist in 2007-2013. Internet folklore.
GM sucks.I lost my stock LS7 engine when it ate the valves. The Z06 Corvette cost me over Fifty Grand. GM executives repent or you will be dammed for not taking care of major safety issues.
I’m curious as to whether or not these could hold tight toleranced hole to hole positions. I have my doubts seeing how even a Haas is only good to right around .001”. Maybe I’m just expecting too much from budget friendly CNC’s. 😅
I straight loled with the "devalue" conversation. Mike: "i'm worried an LS3 swap will devalue for resale" Me- in my head: *yeah for sure. I see a C6Z with an LS3 and I hard pass* Isaac: "so you're not worried that 100k hard track miles and a roll cage WON'T devalue it?" Me: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
As an LS7 owner who was scared to even drive to the grocery store until I got the heads "fixed", thanks for making this. There's a lot of back and forth out there and yeah, a TON of people (including Tadge at one point, I do believe) say as long as you keep it stock, you've got nothing to worry about. Haven't looked at the rest of your channel yet, but looking forward to going through it to see what build you decided on. I'm hoping to see an LSX!
Gm is trash. You can beat the piss out of coyote and wont have these problems. Im not bias either I own a c7 z51. Worst investment ever made. Its in the shop right now for lifter issue. Trash!!
It's crazy to me that people are judging brands by historical ethos and brands are undervalued or overvalued based on that instead of actual performance. Hyundai, for example is still thought of as a cheap brand and people think my 2023 Elantra N is going to blow up any day but Honda will run flawlessly forever even though Honda is 15th in reliability and Hyundai is 10th in today's world. Every option has flaws and strengths and an enthusiast has to do their due diligence to learn about and maintain their cars. The LS7 is amazing, but an owner has to know what to do with it and take action or they will end up with expensive repairs and issues instead of a Porsche killing machine.
