Great to see you back and now you're married! Congratulations! Thanks for showing this video on S. Korea. I always stop at Incheon airport en route to Manila, and now I want to visit and experience the food and culture also! Thanks for shining the spotlight on S. Korea.
Thank you for this video. I desperately want to visit Maui for the first time but I’ve heard that locals aren’t ready and others saying tourists are needed. I listened in on the town hall meeting regarding the phasing out of the short term rentals. I wanted to visit before that might happen but not if I would cause more harm than good. So this video helps.
i have live on Maui for 25 years. The place has gone through a huge change. not to be a downer, but Maui seems like its declining. homemade bakery is like a canary in the coal mine if you ask me.
Been following you again as well since the Lahaina fire here on Maui. So devastating, I am still in PTSD. Did not sleep for weeks or longer. Probably always will be. Lahaina was my fave town to visit when we wanted to get away from South Maui. Still afraid to return in person. Not sure my heart can take it. Maybe in 5 years or so if we can….
Is there a way of telling whats a locally owned business. Just want to clarify who's a local i know many races of people live there ive seen food trucks ran by non native looking people. So im wondering if i am truly supporting a local or a person posing as a local on an extended visit to hawaii
I’m very fortunate enough to have visited maui the last 3 years. We always stopped by Lahaina whenever we visited and made some great memories. All the chickens roaming around, great local eats around there, wonderful boutique stores to do some shopping, and the harbor where we signed up for a snorkeling boat tour and sunset cruise. I want to visit Maui again this year because we love the beautiful island so much and it’s wonderful. Thank you for the great video Blake!
born n raised on maui and just appreciating your food takes brej. you should do a new vid about foods for each part of maui cuz it sucks that I know you were all about west side and so many of those spots are no more
I am glad to see you back. There is time for everything. You did well taking the break and helping Lahaina Community with all your time, and now it's time to slowly come back to this channel. I know you'd use this channel to help Maui in many ways. Much Aloha, Liza
Thanks Blake, your video created a lot of awareness for my wife and I as we just started planning our winter visit to Maui. We’ve decided to change our approach on where we stay, what we eat and what we’re going to do once there. Thanks again. I can tell your good people!
hana should be the priority not just 1 day. Born n rasied on maui. Its tough to say that tho cause i know small businesses on west side are needing love
Stop the whining already!! You had a house/ neighborhood fire……9 months ago!!! At that time you blamed tourists for your misfortune!! Your current accommodations, food, are borderline at best!! We listened……we AIN’T NEVER COMING BACK!!!! BABY…….FLOUNDER ON YOUR OWN!!!!!!!! AND….what the hell is you natives won’t pet a dog or a cat??????? PREACH PICK UP TO YOUR NATIVES!!!!! WE KNOW ALL ABOUT IT!! KNOWN FOR DECADES!!!aloha
Great video. Thank you for the reminders and tips and volunteer opportunity information. Maui is beautiful :) I visited with my family for the first time back in April. We were mindful of reefsafe sunscreen and tried to shop local and be mindful of where our money was going We visited the Ali'i Kula Lavender farm. We visited the Makawao Library and Kihei Library. We ate at Tin Roof Maui, had Kraken Coffee, Aunty Sandy's Banana bread, Akamai Coffee, Kihei Cafe - most delicious pancakes, had pies at Leoda's. We shopped at Uptown Farmers Market, Kula Farmers Market and Swap Meet - they had so many vendors for fruit/veggies. We made leis with a local (Maricel's Floral Designs) and had family photos with Desi Eddy Nova Photography. We definitely felt the Aloha spirit and are thankful we could visit. We had some leftover non perishable food and a local was able to donate it to a church. We hope to visit Maui again. If anything, a library is a great source/place to talk and ask what else you can do/where you can help in Maui during this time.
nice video.... great words ! We were visitors April/May and tried to share as much ALOHA as we could and have now friended 7 families thru their employer that we met on a trail while hiking, and now trying to help them remotely now from the midwest. Sending much Aloha to Lahaina! take care West Maui residents! Hang in there... we are supporting you!
Thank you for your vid. I'm coming back with my family to Maui in August. My kids love your vids and we can't wait to try all the local spots you recommend. No fast food for us on this vacation! Nothing but gratitude and respect to the locals. Mahalo, and God bless you brutha.
I was ready to crap all over your video thinking it was going to be one of those click bait videos monetizing Maui. I am happily surprised, great video with important information. Keep up the great work. Aloha!
We visited in 22 and found everyone very nice on the island of Maui. We are coming back this month and I have been watching videos like yours. I'm nervous to step on toes you never know how each individual reacts. We lost a town near us from tornadoes here just weeks ago. Something that happens more often it seems, and many seem to not care so I feel ya. Mahalo for the video.
Been to the Hawaiian islands many, many times over the last 22 years. Loved the Hawaiian people that we have encountered over the years. Unfortunately the government and big business has ruined this beautiful place. Huge hotels and resorts cart billions of dollars out of the state while the homeless population grows by the day. We won't return. My heart breaks for the Hawaiian people, much love. Mahalo
I plan to go there with a friend who was there during the fire. He will return to work there hopefully. I’m looking for a place to stay or campsites… not sure what the best option is so I’m grateful for videos like this one !❤ Definitely subbed
Very well said. We were there 1 week after the fires. We almost changed our plans and went to a different island, but we did not. We went and we supported everything local. Many food trucks, local car rental company in kehei and a local photographer for family pictures. Everyone was amazing and very thankful that we were there and did not cancel. Thank you for sharing your beautiful island. I'm glad you look to be doing good and are back to doing your videos. Thank you!
Hawaii needs to start helping the homeless too! There was as much homeless in Oahu as there was in downtown Los Angeles. Whatever politicians are in charge there need to be swapped out.
Mahalo nui ia 'oe no keia wikio! My anake and hoa hanau lost their home to the fire but are still working in the tourism industry to keep them going. Business is really down right now and it's causing a lot of anxiety. Good to see a video from a kama'aina that sends good messaging without being anti-tourist.
Thank you for all this great information. Sharing with the rest of my family. We are headed to Maui at the end of the month and really want to make sure we visit in a way that is helpful to the community and respects what everyone is going through.
Very well said. Your vid was extremely well thoughtful and kind and considerate. My wife and I respect the island when we go and always eat locally from the people on the island. We love farmer’s markets. We are limited in our resources so can’t be there for a few years. We have been to the island like 8 times. Maui is more than an island. It’s a person. A person who loves and cares for other people. I’m Maui is a person who is beautiful and shares its beauty with everyone who sees it. Maui, above all, is a strong person. Maui will not let a tragic fire take it down. Maui did hurt, did cry, is still crying, but……Maui will flourish. Maui will be smiling once again.
