Um… why? And the extra radios are for communicating easily with others on the trail around d me or for communicating with others in civilization during an emergency.
They look good for the price point and light duty use case, bummer no oil change access plate and that they left the exhaust unprotected by the transfer case.
I thought about that for these and for the dashboard phone and tablet mounting solution, I came up with which you can see on my other video. I don’t know anything about product insurance or liability and that’s probably what has kept me from doing it.

Fast, simple and probably works for your light duty use, but $36 bucks..?!? Sorry to be a hater but you can build something sturdier with less than $5 of scrap steel angle irons, mount on some light duty side tow hooks (another $5 for a set of 4 at Home Depot) and loop the racthet hooks around them so the strap pressure is more evenly applied. The hooks you're having there is going thru the wall of a thin aluminum piece and your attachment bolts should probably be flipped downwards. But again, your set up probably works for mild use and not spend $100+ bucks on the other nonsense sold online lol. Also the idea of having anything heavy on top of your vehicle is also baffling, I see overland guys with 33" tires on top, or rooftop tents, jerry cans, rotopax, large pelican cases on roof..Only to go camping twice a year . the "OvErLandIng" movement has caused a lot of confused men making youtube videos, not you specifically tho
Hey there, maybe you can answer this for me - I got the same tires (and lift kit 😃👍) after watching this video and one thing I just noticed after having tires put on is that the sidewall tread goes in the opposite direction on each side of the car. Did you notice this as well? I guess it really doesn’t matter because of the actually surface tread type being the same? but thought I’d come back to this video to check yours out and they are the same way. Is there a reason for this or just coincidence?? Thanks for all the helpful info! You need to lock that down. Thieves will get to it. I had $700 worth of gas and gas cans taken from in front of my house. A ratcheting rubber thing is not going to be enough.
I have an upcoming trip that I needed to fit 4 MFC fuel cans on the Bowfin roof rack. This video was the only one I found that gave a good DYI solution for fuel can holder without costing an arm and a leg! Thanks for the video!
Great video! Any tips on how to put on that cover plate underneath the winch? It looks like it’s barely possible because of the space it allowed to tight those screws and nuts. Thanks!
Can you put the stock front skid plate back on after installing the bumper? Looks like the original hooking spots were covered by those 4 bolts in the back? Thanks!
Thank you for the video. Recently installed this by a local shop, they didn’t put the winch cover nor the brackets for fender liner on, caused the fender liner to be rubbed off. Make sure those details are taken care of when installing.
Thanks. Rubbed a little on the front wheel liner. Tied them back with a zip tie and problem solved. Some use a heat gun to permanently form them back to avoid rubbing.
Love the video, your reasons for this build are ALL EXACTLY THE SAME reasons I have so I will be using lots of you design mods. As far as mpg, did you see much of a drop going to the mild lift and tires, what do you get on long distance highway mpg? Thanks
The TrailReady seems very heavy and sticks forward too far and looks like the approach isn’t nearly as good as some of the others that tuck tighter to the nose.

I’ve had this same ghost squeak in my 2015 GX and for the love of God I could never find it. My brother in law sat back there and said he believed it was coming from the latch. I sat back there as well and heard but could not pin it. Now that you made this video it all makes sense!!! Thank you so much!!!
This part totally fixed my squeaky noise in the rear end of my GX460! I’ve been driving it around the same streets where I would always hear it come on the past three days and nothing!!!! I am so happy! 😁
Love your video(s). I got GX460-2015 in 2018. I upgraded based on your rig/video. Such as CBI bumper, Prinsu Roof Rack, Dobinsons suspensions and now Front Grille DYI brackets for light bar. I went with Auxbeam 30" for the amber/multifunction. I installed it right above the crash bar. DYI process took me a few more times than your video...ha..ha..Thank you!
Did you have any trouble with the a/c line near where it gos into the condenser. Same bumper for me rubbed a hole in it. New line has different geometry so appears clear of the bumper.
Just getting into the GX460. Had to "consolidate" my Ford Expedition and Jeep Rubicon into 1 vehicle so I thought that this platform was perfect. I have exactly the same situation using this as my daily driver and needed to have it fit in my office garage which is stupid low at 6'4". I love your approach and have the same philosophy trying to keep it stealthy as I have to also entertain clients, etc. and drive my wife to dinner on "date nights". I plan to follow in your footsteps with your build. BTW, I am also a Ham. If you ever change your UHF/VHF rig, you can most likely have a "Mars Mod" done on the new radio and also Tx on GMRS channels. So you go from 2 radios to 1. I have that same Kenwood but also have a Yaesu FTM500 which I plan to install in my GX with that Mod. I found that that Garmin system is very slow so years ago I bought a Sat phone which is super reliable. Looking forward to your future videos!
