Welcome to my channel! I'm Meredith, a psychotherapist, author, and, most importantly, a human being down to get real on everything...LIFE. I love to discuss themes in therapy, and because of my video on loving an addict, a subscriber requested that I react to Renegade by Big Red Machine feat. Taylor Swift. After that first reaction video, the Swifties swarmed my channel, and the requests came in, leading my channel in a different but welcomed direction. It was a "glorious happening of happenstance." ;) Get ready for some real transparency mixed with humor and warmth.

My book, "Hey Addiction, Thanks for NOTHING: A Brutally Honest Guide to Loving an Addict Without Losing Your Mind" is out on September 15th, 2023

Every time I listen to this song, I want it to keep going. So bittersweet and beautifully composed.

I love this song so much and I’m surprised it wasn’t saved as a rep vault track 😂

Def one of my favorite songs on the album. You can tell, its abut Joe. She calls him a cinafile, because hes an actor and loves movies. The entire album is based on a group chat he had with his male friends. I know, many people think this song is about Matt, but according to many sources, Maty and Taylor never talked about kids together.....

I am new to your channel and I’m so glad I found you. I have loved an addict for 3 years and I can’t even begin to explain how lonely and insane it makes you feel. Thank you for your vulnerability. ❤️

I find it interesting that Taylor used the word saintly when one of kims kids is named Saint. 🤔🤣

I suspect the fall after Matty was so violent because she dove right into that and when it was over, the grief from both relationships finally set in. It’s all speculation, but I get that impression from the album and how they’re both sprinkled throughout most of the songs. Thank you for your analysis of the lyrics. You’re the best on RU-vid by a long shot!

I adore your reflection, your emotions! Mere, you're amazing ❤ Can you make a video for "I hate it here", please? The vibe of this song is very close to "the prophecy")

The “ringing in my head” probably means she can still remember hearing the phone ringing from when Kanye called her. To lie to her. To manipulate her words. To cause her immense pain and suffering. Don’t forget that Kim has a child named Saint. Taylor chose her words to this so well. (As usual). I truly hope that it brings her much needed peace, comfort and closure. I’d still love to hear/see North and Saint singing this together on a TikTok. 😂❤

I became a huge Swifty over the last 5 years (starting with her Folkmore era but I now am obsessed with her earlier stuff too) when I was in my mid-40s and I have SUPER appreciated going through your journey with you and I love your takes!! I get chills/goosebumps whenever I’m driving around listening to Taylor and couldn’t articulate exactly why and you help me put form to my thoughts. I recently found out that Lana and I share an Alma mater (Fordham U in da Bronx) and am just getting into her music as well. I look forward to your videos guiding me through my Lana journey as well!!

This song just beautifully explains how it feels to confide in someone who you think you can trust but really all they're doing is trying to get gossip and share it with everyone.

Subscriber from Brazil here! I'm a psychology student and also a big Lana's fan, so I'm marathoning (I don't know if the word "marathon" can be used as a verb in english as well, but I mean "watching non stop" hahaha) all your videos. Your analysis are opening my mind, I mean, even as a fan, I've never thought about some things you're saying and discussing. Thanks for the videos!!!! ♥️

I no it's very hard to understand addicts but we truly can't help it. We aren't choosing drugs over a person and I can promise we don't want to hurt anyone.

Thank you for reacting to this. I've been raped twice in my life. The first time I was 16 and drinking with friends one night. A boy i believed was my best friend brought me home and raped me on my aunt's couch while I was unconscious. Out of jealousy because I was falling for a boy who was falling for me. Two months went by, i didn't want anyone to know out of shame because I was drinking and blamed myself. I listened to Down In A Hole by Alice In Chains on repeat in my room sobbing and continued to let him take me to school even though it made my skin crawl. Then I found out i was pregnant. I finally broke down and told my aunt. She was waiting for me to tell her because she already knew. He confessed it to her thinking that if he got me pregnant this guy would be out of the picture and my parents would force me to marry him. Quite the opposite happened. I continued my sophomore year, at a new school, until his female friends started slipping notes in my books and locker calling me a liar and the "Kansas City Whore". So I dropped out and got my GED. This song and Me and a Gun by Tori Amos hit so deep in me. 25 years later I have an amazing son. He's my silver lining in a dark and horrific time in my life. The second time my now ex husband took me to the home of a couple we were friends with. We were all drinking, they had slipped xanax in my drink unbeknownst to me. I was in and out of it and I felt him come up behind me and start having sex with me from behind. Until I felt kissing on my neck and there was facial hair. I then realized he was letting his friend take advantage of me and he was in the bedroom with the wife. I got home and sat in the shower feeling so dirty the water went freezing. Felt like I had a sign on my forehead saying Assault Me. I have major ptsd, anxiety and agoraphobia now. 💔 Years of therapy and patience and kindness from my now husband has gotten me through it, and i no longer feel like a victim but a survivor.

It seems like people are attaching too much to the idea that the song might be written about a child with autism, specifically, instead of the general wander and innocence of children and their imaginations. Had nobody said that Aaron Desner's son, Robin, might have autism would you still have found negative associations with the wording? Or did having that in your mind before hearing the songs drive you to find negative associations where you otherwise would not have? Taylor Swift has written multiple songs about little kids and their perspectives of the world around them. She has pulled imagery from toys, and play fighting, along with the innocence of how they see bad situations (abusive father in Seven, cancer in Ronan). Little kids have always played like they are sward fighting, pretending to be pirates or knights or some other kind of tiny, adorable "blood thirsty" hero from their story books. They just naturally jump around and yell without being self-conscious that they look ridiculous. Those are true no matter their mental, emotional or physical limitations of the child. More realistically, there is absolutely zero chance that Aaron would allow a song that could have any kind of negative phrasing or context about his son (or his sons autism) to be recorded. I highly doubt he would even let the song be named after his son if she was using the lyrics as a way to talk about her own trauma like that. Especially the tie into Crimson and Clover and the sexual connotations of that song.

Hi! I think I mentioned that people were recommending that I react bc it was associated with autism so yes, I already had that in mind. I asked that people be gentle with me bc I was sensitive and I likely was taking it the wrong way. That’s just where I’m at right now with it all. I agree with you about Taylor writing about kids in her music and never would be in a negative light. Sometimes I miss the mark, it happens with first time reactions. I agree with your thoughts on it

you should react to only the young by Taylor swift, it has a very sad message but is very educational tw: it is about gun violence in schools

I love how you say it can’t get as sad… it’s Taylor she finds a whole new level of sad we don’t even know existed!!! It’s track 5 you know it’s gonna ruin you just from that. Her poetic word mastery is unbelievable… I love watching you and your interpretations of her music. I have a lot in common with you on that heartbreak history. You give me hope when I’m feeling at my most hopeless so thank you Mere!! That “how much sad did you think I had in me” line gets me. I felt like how much heartache did you think I had in me to tolerate before it was too much. I love this whole album!!!
