You have reached Hooked to the Left on RU-vid. My name is Melanie and I have been crocheting for about 20 years.
I find this hobby to be one of the best for DIY projects, relaxation, and getting back to the roots of home and hearth. I tried gardening first - I wasn't so good at that, so crochet it was!!
My favorite projects are the ones that are practical and require less complicated stitches. While I love beautiful stitch work, I find I am drawn to colors and the coziness of an item more than the intricacies of it.
If you want to know more about me, please follow me on the different networks below.

Wow, missing the point on the reviews…I’m a dolly and lace crocheter and besides confort I’m looking for overall stitch finishing…none of your reviews touched on the mate finished of the stitch…too shallow of a review.
Pretty sure the holes are used to determine hook/needle size. Particularly helpful if they're not labled. Cute kit, love the scissors! But I found a few (empty) cases cheaper, so I'll probably get a few of thise instead... or crochet one lol.
Love the colors and texture of this yarn, I look at them longingly every time I go to Walmart LOL! I'm trying to FINISH my projects before I get into another... the ONLY reason I haven't bought any yet. Seriously need to destash! 🤣😂
Clover Amour hun... like the French word for love. Sounds like ahm-more. There's only an R at the end. Super cool that you're a leftie! There's so many lefties that struggle with learning to crochet, it's nice to see someone using the other hand. Totally going to check out your other videos.💕 I really like that you showed the hooks from both the front and profile perspectives. Clover looks like it leans slightly more towards an inline from the profile view, with the Tulip extending a smidge further. I'm a big fan of Susan Bates hooks, so that (and also the smooth glide and price point) really appeals to me. Since my stitches are tight, sometimes I struggle with the enlarged head of the Boye style of inline hooks. I do like them when I want a looser stitch though. Tapered seems to hold onto thicker yarn better too, in my opinion. You review much like I would, if I did that kind of thing... only I prefer the 5mm hooks. I won't hold that against ya, though. LOL Nice review!
I tend to hold my hook like a pencil, and I have been eyeing the Furls hook for some time. I had been wondering about the contour of the handle and you have answered my question. Thank you for saving me some money. ;)
I really do like this video cause I feel like I did learn a lot about how the hooks are functionally But it would’ve been really nice to have more about the difference between as a new crochet I was so looking to know the difference between a amour hook vs a etimo or wether that’s just a term they use or if those have actual fictions But overall, I did enjoy the video. Thank you for sharing.
I LLOOOVVVVEEE my Clover Amour ❤ I’m going to pick up a 5mm tulip just to compare to the 5mm clover I’m using now on a project. I’ll come back and comment what I liked better ❤ I’m a knife grip crocheter. The clovers roll so nicely between my fingertips for quick efficient crochet 💜 Also depends on the type of yarn. Clovers and tulip I think both would work great with all yarn But I noticed - I have a resin hook from another company and it’s horrible for natural cotton and wool. It’s sticks to the yarn terribly. - at least that was my experience So now I just use metal hooks ❤
I received my 5mm tulip etiome red crochet hook. I like it. But my clover is more smooth- at least with this type of yarn I’m using- I notice a slight difference in friction. The yarn is Caron Jumbo- multicolored green. It’s not a quality yarn and it splits but not so much with my clover or tulip. I can use both interchangeably and be happy. The handle is very comfortable.
I bought the sweet Violet sparkly and I’m doing a bobble stitch. it is turning out to be beautiful but I would like to add another color purple and maybe cream to it to see how it will look. If you have any suggestions, please send it to me.
Oh thank God I found this video I recently got a etimo red and I thought I was going crazy because I have only ever used Clover and etimo felt like sandpaper lol 😅
Stessa esperienza!! Ho fatto tanto per provare i red di Tulip ma credo di tornare ai miei storici Clover, i red e anche i rose fanno troppo attrito col filo, non mi piace
I came to crochet late in life and tried many different brands but always disliked the draggy sensation of the hook against the yarn. Then I came to both Clover and Tulip and I love them equally. They both glide through the yarn without a trace of friction. Now I won’t bother with any other brand.
Hello Mel, So sorry to hear about your husband. It is always hard to take no matter what roll they take in the family. We love and miss you very much. You take whatever amount of time you need to get yourself together. 14 years are a lot of years to be together but we know you can do this. Please come back to us cause this community will be lost without you. A fan😊.
Hi Mel, I went looking for my favorite Hookers and wanted to ask if you guys are going to be doing the show any more? I miss you guys and all that I learn from you. Love your shopping list. A fan😊.
Oh wow, thats a lot of yarn! I have a couple small bins overflowing and live in a 200sq ft camper, so I was hoping for tips to organize it before I have to start storing yarn and thread in a bajillion places because I lose things easily. 😅 I like the idea of vacuum sealing it! I just got a mini food saver thing for reusable zip bags for Christmas so itll be trying that pronto! 💖
Great video ❤ The clover amour is a hybrid hook, not tapered. I only know because i can't keep my yarn on a tapered hook, but i can use inline and hybrid hooks ❤️
Watched this episode with Ed this morning as I was drifting off to sleep. Thought long and hard about your question, Mel, about trading places with someone for a day. My response was to be the person at the Make A Wish foundation that gets the privilege of telling the child that their biggest wish will come true. To be able to see the joy on their face would be the best gift you could both give and receive. Thank you for putting this question out there and for giving me the opportunity for deep reflection. Miss being able to spend time with you all "live". Have a great week. ❤
