Great tutorial! I have been using my mid-2012 since, well, 2012. haha! I've "replaced" it with a 2017 and then a 2019, but they just aren't the workhorses the 2012 is and they feel downright fragile by comparison and I've passed them along to my teenagers. I've upgraded the RAM and done other basic repairs here and there, but it has never let me down and it is still running strong. I will add thermal paste to my list for the next time I need to repair something!

Hi!! If you end up seeing this comment, please reach back out to me when possible! I bought a 13in MacBook Pro Mid-2012, I was hoping to use it for college but I’m broke lol. MacBook will turn on but I cannot download anything, and not even the apple support will load on safari, even with the wifi connected. Google will load just fine but not apple support. Should I just return the computer? Or is there still a chance that I can buy an ssd and ram and update the computer?? Please let me know ASAP. Thank you for your time!
I have an Acer Chromebook from 2015 and still runs fine, even without the updates Model ZRF Acer CB5-571 series. Never expected it to be like a Mac or Windows laptop, always used for browseing the internet like Im doing now, thats why I would definelty get another Acer product.
Having trouble, after reformatting the new hard drive that was installed, I went to do the Catalina install and somehow I had lost my Internet connection and I cannot seem to get it back. Earlier in the video it shows how to get connected to your Wi-Fi router which I did but somewhere in the reformat process it lost it and I can’t get it back so I don’t know what to do.
If you are still having problems after this, check that you downloaded the right software from the website (there are few wacom ones) and that you have the correct version (there are a few versions depending on which version your MacBook is running). After installing, restart your Mac.
Question: if my one is already 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3 is that necessary to upgrade? And will this allow me to be able to access the apple internet? At this point it is only accessing Mountain lion that won’t communicate with apple :(
I had a custom from then to 16 and 1TB which is why I still have it but the OS will not upgrade beyond 10.12.6 so chrome will not and other sites depend on that... So ridiculous that it will basically just be storage.
Just for note taking and internet browsing? $300 will buy a pretty nice Chromebook... Your issue will be if you actually need a "real" computer or not, that will be the issue and 90% of people don' have a clue what the difference is.

I'm a little out of the loop between storage and memory, and how we went from hard drives to SSD, but your explenation simplified it to where I feel confident in how I should chose a new laptop. Now, can anyone tell me how much storage is good? My current has 237 gb and most of what I see online searching has been around 512 or higher. Heard 1 TB is best if you can get it.
This was great. I'm a PC guy and I've upgraded my PCs, but my wife is a Mac user. She has an old MacBook that the Mac store won't touch because it's too old, and she wants to speed up, if possible to make it usable!
Wow! U made a fuckin ton of mistakes, I even failed to count them and report them back to ur kids. Now what a result from ur mistakes is ton of kids copying ur mistakes and "upgrading" this 2012 stupid laptop downgrading quality of product and reselling them rendering this market with downgraded devices useless. AAPL should thank u for that. The last upgradable mac laptop now deminish faster. Thanks!!1
