Welcome to Æmbermedes! This is the place to find KeyForge gameplay, skits, news, documentaries, it's all here! (Punctuated Equilibrium is the best card ever, fight me.)
I have mixed feelings on this. On the one hand it's never been easier to get into Keyforge. Tons of fire products all at once with so little chance for disappointment. I to remember AoA. But one great aspect of keyforge is how there is usually a way to take somebody of check, so moving away from that hurts the game.
So sorry we couldn't see a Gigantic pull on stream! We've had 5 gigantics out of this one group of 30 decks, so that is 1 in 6 decks (I've heard worse ratios from other openings). My vote would have been 1 gigantic in every set. There are definitely cards to counter the gigantics that would have made them fun to play! I ran into a double Access Denied deck last night that stopped my old MM Deusillus in its tracks.
As part of the Aember Skies campaign on Gamefound, retailers were able to get their hands on this exclusive set by receiving votes from their players! This article explains it all if you want to look into it further! gamefound.com/en/projects/ghost-galaxy-games/keyforge-amber-skies/updates/4
@@aembermedes thanks for the info! honestly I'm disappointed about it as I am one of the bigger supporters during that campaign and unlike many others I needed to ship it all through different shipping companies as they won't ship directly to my country.. needless to say keyforge is not alive here and with such a format of supply I will probably never get my hands on it ever.. not enough for the very least.. why would they do that 😕
Always wanted to know who s that creature on Mass Mutation theme, which appears on that booster deck, the starter set, and the playmats for Mass Mutation. Still not knowing, can someonr help?
I think it's just original art for the set if you mean the mutant niffle creature. A lot of the FFG sets just had unique set art. Unless you mean Ultra Gravitron.
Yeah I believe that's just original art for the set; looks neat though, would've loved to see it on an actual card, unless I'm just forgetting it for some reason!
Awesome deck pull! The focus on house synergy and gigantic creatures really adds a new layer of strategy. Curious to see how you leverage those creatures for early board control cuz getting the right combo pieces can make a huge difference in cycling and tempo. Or use recursion tools for key generation ofc. Looking forward to seeing how this deck performs, keep it up
As someone who didn't get to play MM, I'm sort of glad this is more of a reprint set so I can learn the older cards and get to experience some old fashioned KeyForge gameplay :)
@samusamu5342 The game saw a dark period when FFG lost the algorithm, but now a new company Ghost Galaxy has picked it up and started producing new sets for it! They've held a couple seasons of Vault Tours so far, put together some neat LGS-level events, and have been working to get the game back in game stores as much as possible!
If people are interested, I can definitely try and make something like that happen!! Some merch would be awesome, just didn't expect people would be super into that haha! I'll put you down as an interested party and look further into it!
Based on the concept of the set, and that there is no Gamefound, GG maybe trying to push Discovery behind the scenes with the hope of putting Keyforge back on store shelves. Or at least that's what I hope they are trying to do. Since it focuses on simplicity I suspect the decks won't be that powerful compared to the recent sets, but I do expect it being a lot of fun to play within it's own meta.
All of this is absurd to me, in my country of Australia I have still not seen a single flgs sell grim reminders, only ONE of the four I know has actually even has KeyForge on their radar, and it’s a chain store. They clearly haven’t figured out anything to do with global distribution. I love the game of KeyForge and thought ghost galaxy could be a new begining for me and many other Aussie fans of the game, yet all this time goes bye, and we still need to import from the us for a majority of products. Seeing so many sets released so frequently, especially after I have personally seen no effort to allow players like myself to buy their products reasonably, is foul. (And all of this is criticism of a 14 year old, u cannot imagine adults needing to deal with an issue as ludicrous as this is, when it comes to a hobby)
I think this is really good. Maybe the timing is a bit awkward but perhaps for a set like this which is going to be pushed forward for a long duration and that doesn't aim to carry the hype behind a mainline set, it's better to have it out asap. I really hope it can bring some new players to the table, and most importantly, I think this only makes sense if the decks are significantly cheaper. I don't know if it's feasible but if the decks can reach a price somewhat close to 10$ I think it could be a great product enjoyed also by current fans. The amount of people who buy AOA because they are cheaper, as well as because the gameplay is straightforward and balanced, shows that there is demand for such a product. I'm also intrigued by how strong these decks will be in general, but I think it would make more sense if those decks were a little weaker.
I agree with most of the comments. 4 sets at once for a game struggling to make sales IS A BAD IDEA! If you’re a retailer and you’re considering putting KeyForge in your store (or back in your store) which set do you buy? You don’t know. Because KeyForge isn’t selling brilliantly anyway. So you just don’t buy any 🤷🏻♂️. As a consumer, you only have so much money. You only buy so many decks (from Gamefound or store) so instead of buying 8 Æmber Skies, you buy 2 of each of the 4 sets. You might get a little more money from the whales. It won’t be that much though. Too much content isn’t good for a game like Magic which has players in every game store in the world on a weekly basis. It certainly isn’t good for a game fighting to stay alive like KeyForge. I think 4 sets a year (think Uncained WoE, then Menagerie GR) is pushing it. Four at once though is just too much. Development of cards and sets takes time, effort and money! Give your sets some room to breathe and actually make some sales! That is unless you’ve already decided the game is dead so you need to blast everything out all in one go. In which case - yeah, release it. I agree. It makes sense in that circumstance. I had this chat on the UK KeyForge Discord server when Tokens of change was revealed. Saying I thought 3 sets at once wasn’t a good idea for the game for the above reasons. I was told to quit being negative and let people who give a …. about the game be excited. Nice to see that there are some people who agree with me for the good of the game (although there were some in the UK discord who did too)
Yeah when two sets a year (with some side content in between) was announced, I personally thought that sounded like a pretty good schedule. When a third set was brought in, I didn't mind all that much, thought it was neat. But now with four sets by the end of the year, that does feel like a bit much, and like I said in the video, I'm even one of those people who's always said "the more KeyForge, the better." I'll still probably try and consume as much as possible, but I agree that Discovery could've been pushed much farther back and no one would've minded.
Content vomit hasn't done WotC any favors with their community. I don't see it going any better for GG. At least WotC supports their players with one of the best weekly local events in the business. Meanwhile, GG hasn't even announced when theirs will start. Which was supposed to happen 5 months ago and they have been completely silent on the subject ever since. Leading me to believe that there no longer will be a local weekly event, in which case, why would new players even bother playing/getting into the game. There is nowhere for them to play it.
I really wonder if this matters. I'm a new player and got started because I was looking for a new card game and saw Menagerie on the counter at a local game store. I knew about keyforge but didn't know it had came back from its covid era death at all. I'm glad it was sitting out there and let me know the game was alive again, but later learning I had picked a special set that doesn't get much play was disappointing. I think Discovery might be that but worse. The thing I had heard about keyforge that made me interested was that it could have powerful and unique card that would be too powerful in constructed games. learning afterwards i bought a set that intentionally didn't have many of those cards would have been disappointing. Maybe I'm wrong though. One good thing about keyforge is the ways it feels some ways more like a board game than a card game, so a version that is easier to play with the same amount of teaching time as a board game compared to a card game might be worth it. I'm also a sucker who is getting too obsessed with opening decks even though I've only played for a few months so I'm sure I'll still cave and buy at least 1 or 2 though....
Thankfully Discovery will be tournament legal, so you won't have to worry about that unlike with Menagerie. And some of the earlier cards, because of their simplicity, can actually offer a little more bang for their buck sometimes, but of course, sometimes that simplicity can make cards a little less exciting than newer ones, so hopefully there'll be a nice mix in Discovery. Looking forward to seeing the card pool so we'll know for sure!
I like that they are thinking of newer players but it is crazy to keep track of this. I want to see more things like the Martian civil war over extra one off sets.
This might be what I need to break out KeyForge again - sort of got lost in the mechanics, since it would have to be a side show game for me ( sorry, mean no disrepect - KeyForge is a very good game, but my heart lies with Alpha Clash )
As a concept, I think it's excellent. The later Keyforge sets have become extremely complex, and having something simpler for new players is great. With that said, the fact it's arriving alongside _three_ other sets is pretty ridiculous. I personally think they should've held off on Tokens of Change & More Mass Mutation, making Discovery the one 'side' set, which would've emphasised their goal of reaching new players instead of looking like their goal is to release as many sets as possible. I sincerely hope they slow things down next year.
Interesting thought, having Aember Skies and Discovery release by the end of the year, and pushing ToC and MMM to later next year, I could definitely see that working!
Good idea, but useless if the game isn't advertised more, there needs to be more support and more will to grow instead of greed with new sets and new mechanics
Fully agree. I'm hoping that with this product comes a push to expand the player base by marketing more and focusing efforts on getting more local stores to pick up the product through store kits to host tournaments, etc. Something. I live near a major US city and the closest store that carries Keyforge is almost an hour away.
Yea this is getting out of control. Making me wanna stop playing. Seems like pure greed. 2 sets a year that was the promise. So much for keeping their word. 👎🏼
I think the idea for a core set is very good, especially for new players. The only thing I don't find optimal is that so many sets are released at almost the same time. BUT maybe this has a deeper reason that we don't know yet...
Yep, you both bring six decks, then you and your opponent each ban one of each other's decks. Then you'll each save one of your decks, then you'll each ban again. So you'll be left with four decks from which you'll have to choose from for the three matches that take place. Even if someone wins the first two games, you still play the third match. (And once you've played with a deck, you can't play with it again for that round.) Keys forged are tracked too, since that hepls in tiebreakers as the seasons goes on, to determine placings and whatnot. Hope that helps!
You'll just have to join the NKFL Discord server, and everything takes place right there! Signups for the event are there in the discord as well, and everyone there is extremely helpful in answering questions and helping you find what you need! Here's an invite: discord.gg/wRywuAur Season 24 will be starting up in August, and there are all sorts of side events running as well! Hope to see you there!
Fantastic recap, it made me feel like I was there! What a great opening and music choice! Loved the analysis mixed with all the personal takes on your Vegas experience.
