Man, how did lighting get t that orange?..if they released that color, I would buy another one in a heartbeat!, my NP rg550 wouldn’t mind at all!, that square heel joint is a non issue, it’s all there was back in the day..doesn’t effect my playing at all.,do I know it’s there?, sure, but it doesn’t matter to me, aanj, or block heel, I’m good with both
Yeah it's always crazy to see how road flare red will appear on different cameras with different lighting. I hear you on the neck joint, it's annoying at worst and not so bad at best
The square joint is indeed a big problem on this guitar. It all depends on what you like to play and your benchmarks (22 frets versus 24 frets). But for me, I always favor a one piece neck. But apart from this aspect, I would like to have this guitar in my collection. Thank you for this 2nd review and have a good day.
Why favor a one piece neck? Just curious. Agree on the fret benchmarks. It would be annoying for me if this was my only 24 fret guitar but I'm usually more around the 12th and 15th frets so it's just fine. Definitely a worthwhile possible addition to your collection
10:44 Hi @@HighZ, one piece neck or softened rounded joint, like your prestige. In short, a neck that allows you to feel comfortable on frets 20 to 24. On the other hand, as for the one piece neck, it's also a question of vibrations. The vibrations will not be intercepted by the neck joint, the right hand will feel it. On that note, on en reparle, A+!
This is an issue if you value 22-24 frets and depends on your sensitivity, your picking, what you play and how long you have been playing. I have been playing for 35 years and have broken my hand and ears multiple times by uncomfortable instruments and low vibration and sound quality. You can often only rely on your experience to determine a difference. The more you try guitars, the more you learn.
Pia. I think the inlay on it is more cohesive with the overall aesthetic of the guitar. Plus I prefer the design of it being all a single vine as opposed to the J. Custom (which looks great, don’t get me wrong), where it’s maybe a bit more… random looking? Also I got the Onyx Black Pia and at least on that one, the gold petals of the inlay are shiny and reflective which is super satisfying to look at under different types of lighting imo.
Nice! The black one is certainly an incredible looking guitar, great choice! The inlay on each PIA certainly is more in line with the color scheme of the guitar. Have to admit I do like both though!
Just taking a guess, the lights in the background are purple... Is your camera adding yellow for white balance? Maybe that's why the guitar looks orange
That might work! But I'm going to start looking like an alien if I adjust it too far! In person the purple really accentuates the color but the camera is dead set on this being orange 😆
It seems like a great value at around 1k. I've seen it drop down to $700 during sales. Definitely going to keep my eyes open after your review(s). And I love that vermillion-ish red. Would make for an interesting mod project if nothing else.
I am considering upgrading from my strat to a superstrat and this guitar is in my top 3 choices along with a kramer and a charvel, the problem I have with rg550 is that it would probably be my number 1 choice but I seriously dislike all of the colors, I wish they had on offer one in blue or dark green or some other shade of red
That would definitely be an issue since the color is impossible to ignore. There are some good prestige options that are dark blue and red but they're much more expensive unfortunately
Whats up brother- great video as usual- I was thinking the other day. If I didn't start on my J Custom or really like the Fluence in my mahogany prestige my opinion of the 550 would be completely different. It would be my fav if I didnt have the others. It really is a great guitar. Were just a bit spoiled. Ha- have a great weekend-
Thanks! We definitely are! And you can feel the difference between these models for sure. Good thing is this guitar is good enough that even though it's not a J cilustom or anything, it's still great fun!
As much as I love my 1999 RG 3120 prestige My 1991 RG550 Has an overall better feeling neck to me. Both are wizard profiles(17mm @1st and 20mm@ the12rh) and have Rosewood FB's But the RG550 is so much more played in feeling. That's the key for me🤘
@@HighZ Yeah the RG 550 is a keeper no doubt and I am hoping the RG3120 get's that same played in neck feel in time as well? It was bought used but the original owner never played it. Zero fret wear.
My favourites for both: For 6, comfort and layout, plus 4 round octaves. 7+: playing off the e but having the few notes lower you can pedal off of or make chords with. You can basically approach the key centre note (e) from below. A song that highlights it is Kirisute Gomen. Can be very refreshing to listen to and play. For me, I'm going to stick with 6 tuned low. 6 just feels right, like a smooth road. With a 6, you can still do the 7 string's play off the e thing with lower note access, you just need to tune low to get your desired key to be on the 5th string, so often need a bari. Great vid.
Thank you! Very insightful thoughts too, I gotta listen to that song. Definitely going with a lower tuned 6 string primarily. I have almost all of my 6s in drop C!
I perfer my RGs for metal and hard rock. Especially if i need bite and attack. I love my S's. Especially my S6570Q-NB. But they seem to lack that bite when attacking the strings. Compared to my RG's
The RG is really great you could say. Once I got uses to the body shape I never really looked back aside from some exceptions. Even my favorite solars have the same body shape
Call me crazy, but I like the V7/8 pickups better than the Fusions. The only thing I don't like about the Genesis is the blocky neck heel. I mean, they changed the scarf joint with a volute & put a 5 piece neck for more stability, why not also putting an All Access Neck Joint in for good measure? In any case, these Genesis models are great value for money, evn if you swap pickups. I wish they would release the RG 1570 as a Genesis model in the future.
That would be cool if they did! And in the context of a full mix the v7/v8 definitely were starting to grow on me. I feel like once the guitar ages a little, it's going to sound even better. That square heel is really the only thing stopping it from being the absolute best guitar for value but yeah really like how they at least have the other small design improvements
These two guitars are truly beautiful. I never knew solar guitars were even a thing until I learned it from you. You can't go wrong with either honestly, it all goes down personal preference
I had an ibanez RT. It was amazing, but the heel joint was huge. I could get to the 24th fret only sitting down and with a lot of effort. So, I'm never going back to anything remotely square in that area :)
Would be great, although at that point it would not longer have the 80s theme they're billing it as. Would be cool to see a Japanese made guitar at this price point with modern colors and features
My man....great vid as usual. Im inching closer and closer to an evertune guitar. I got an A1.6 frc back in 19. It felt good, and love Ola but the bridge scared me away. Now that IME versed in the setup wish Ida kept it. Really enjoying my ibanez's. My Les pauls are all jealous. Keep up the great work and my wife was screaming when she saw ur cat. Have a great week.
Thanks! The evertune is definitely something you have to want to use to enjoy using it. It doesn't feel like playing a typical guitar. But the benefits can't be denied. And good news! Sable is in every video 😺🐈⬛️
Oh nice we got the same audio interface hahhaha, anyway, this is such a good video that I am sure will help lots of musicians who wanna upload music to the platforms that you've mentioned!
I do. It fits against my body and stays in place better. My favorite is the RGA body but this is a close second. That being said, I played an S live a long time ago so it's still a good body shape
That is one of my dream guitars. That or the Kiko $3000 signature 🎸. Sweet Ax brother! It will be a year or two before I can afford one... I found much better stability in my guitars once I started using a dehumidifier alongside an A/C unit. Thanks for another great and seemingly honest review!
Thanks and yes, controlling the humidity and temperature of your playing area will keep the wood from shifting. If you're going out and playing live, you won't have any control over the conditions at the venue
Beautiful guitar. I really like orange. A 6 strings-24 frets that seems to fit the old thrash metal style. I have an Ibanez which has much the same shape, but of low quality, so it's good to see one of a better quality. Thanks for the review. Cheers!
