I recently started using heavy sandbags exclusively after finding your channel about 2 weeks ago and I have been loving it! My body has adapted quickly in response and my real world strength has increased dramatically. I just respond well to things like that and calisthenics as opposed to barbell training. Thank you for the inspiration brother! 💪
Hey that's so awesome to hear!! Good luck with everything, sandbags and calisthenics work together so well, I've always liked barbells but I've never felt better since I dropped them
nice addition including the weights of each bag as lifted, will be good for newer viewers and ideally cut down on a natural 1st question, "how much does that sandbag weigh?' solid sandbag session as always!💯
I have just filled my 60kg (132pound) bag, first bag I’ve ever had. I have written a plan from lots of your videos. Monday shoulder Tuesday bodyweight circuit Wednesday squat Thursday bodyweight circuit Friday carry I’m looking forward to it, I hit shoulder yesterday for sets of 1 each side until I was unable to. Thank you for your information. You have really inspired me
Dude that 250 goes up sooo much smoother and easier than when you first hit it which really wasn’t long ago off memory. There’s definitely big progress occurring.. honestly man a pirate hat and a drink you’ll get 275. No promises though. Results may vary. And yah I agree weighted carries of any kind are simply the best, that’s what Tina turner was singing about back in the day. The more you know huh?
Thanks man! Gained a lot of confidence with it since that day I passed out and it landed on me lol. Yes that's gotta be it! As a pirate I don't need to amp up or anything I can just use my hatred of the kraken 🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
Thank you man!! I'm trying to get to 165 and hopefully that will help with the 265. It's been a lot of fun going all in on the sandbag to shoulder, deadset on that 300!!
@bboyVice007 hey thank you! I think going all in on sandbags and calisthenics has made a huge difference. I'm not sure on the measurement, do you measure just under the armpits?
Rucking is a cheap alternative to keep the right body composition while bulking. It's not as much a strength builder. But keep the load under 25% body weight and it can stay parasympathetic, which can make it a useful active recovery. I find sandbag carries have been complimentary to rucking as far as balancing out the muscles that rucking works.
Hi, great videos and lifts. I noticed in your videos you don't do any pressing movements with sandbags such as the floor press and overhead press, is there a reason why you don't do them? Keep up the great work, you motivated me to get back into sandbag lifting too.
Hey Cody nice vids! Respect to you for all your effort! Can you please answer a couple of questions: 1) how old are you ? What height and weight ? 2) how many reps with sand bag on average are you doing for workout? For example how many sets and reps for shouldering?
Hey thank you! I'm 32 5ft8 163lbs and usually I'll do somewhere between 5-10 shoulders per side in a workout, but it was more when I was lifting lighter sandbags! Usually go by feel, once a certain level of fatigue hits I'll know it's time to stop
I tried to answer that question and ended up writing an entire book about it haha (not done with it yet) Short answer though for sandbag to shoulder I think singles are the best way to go. Even if you're using light weights, singles with a small break between reps is worth it. Better progress if you treat shouldering as a skill rather than an exercise, similar to oly lifting. Anywhere from 5-15 shoulders per side in a workout seems to be a good spot.
@@thestonecircleI’m having a hard time pulling the trigger on a 200 lbs sandbag. I’m becoming more and more comfortable with my 150 lbs sandbag. I can carry it a while but it gets heavy pretty fast lol. A 200 lbs sandbag sounds like a beast to work in with barbell work. I have rogue bags that I enjoy. I like the rogue bags so I’ll buy their 200. I know you like the iron mind. But it’s so expensive lol I’ll consider iron mind when I get the courage to go up to a 220 bag lol
@@thestonecircle I need to pull the trigger and just buy it. Excellent bags. If I could get comfortable carrying a 200 bag I would be pretty happy. No one am I shouldering that lol not for another year of training at least.
I've only started doing sandbag lifts in the last couple years but absolutely love them. But I've had a couple lower back injuries and that area is generally tight. These lifts are always pretty tough on my lower back. Do you have any recommendations for lower back friendlier lifts or ways to use sandbags while being careful with the lower back? Would it just be lower weight?
Some time spent dedicated to working on breathing and bracing can go a long way. One thing you can do is lay on the ground and set a plate on your stomach, and practice the valsalva maneuver as hard as you can a couple times through. A couple sets of 15-30 seconds working on breathing while maintaining that brace works well. It might sound silly especially if you already know how to breath and brace, but it really goes a long way! For the actual lifting, I'd say just forget everything besides bracing the core. If I'm ever feeling off, like I'm not as strong one day, focusing all my attention on bracing usually helps!
I haven't done any conventional/sumo, but I did some farmers carries with a trap bar a few months ago. I only went up to 425 I think, but it felt way easier than it used to! I'll have to give it a try though I'd be interested to see
I dont have access to sandbags but at my job i lift sacks of potatos that are about 50lbs now i cant be in the back all day working out i got to do my job but i can probablly sneak in a few reps of something here and there any tips or thoughts on what i should do?
Hey that's the way to do it haha, get paid to lift! It depends on the shape but if they have handles you might carry multiple bags in each hand for a farmers walk type thing. Or you could do a few reps from the ground to overhead as explosively as you can, as long as the bags won't break and the potatoes won't fall on your head haha
5 days a week I'd go for 1-3 max distance carries each day. Probably start with one and start adding a set every few days to see how you react. If you're still feeling recovered you can keep pushing the volume until you hit your limit. Sounds like a good way to get MASSIVE!
@@thestonecircle tbh i dont really have much time to train this year bcus of school what do you hink of doing 30 minutes of carries but making sure to increase the weight everytime it feels like its getting easy in this case i could also do it everyday i think
I don’t think you need it but do you know of your test levels are high enough? Test helps with muscle building so it might be an interesting avenue. I am not suggesting taking juice but rather enhance it naturally. There is stuff that blocks our test from developing. I’ve cut out microplastics and plastics as much as I can and eat raw honey and honey comb. I can feel a difference in my libido it’s going up. That’s not a sure way of knowing how much your test is growing but fertility, sex drive and test are closely related.
I've never had the actual levels checked (I live in the US $$$) but I do my best to stay healthy. There's always more I'd like to do, its so hard to factor in everything haha. Slowly but surely I'll change everything to optimal. Biggest change i noticed was getting a real strong water filter. One day my dream is to live next to a spring I can drink from, one day! It's funny, I worked in buildings with constant use of cleaning supplies for years, once I left I realized how much of an affect they had on everything
@@thestonecircleSame! I'd love to own my own land with my own well, wildlife and everything. Enough for me to sustain myself. I'm European and the US looks like the best place for that. But I am a bit concerned about the health side of it, Europe is stricter when it comes to what we pump into the ground and into ourselves. And that isn't saying much considering big corporations still destroy too much. But if it's worse in the USA well that has me concerned haha.
@hansmemling2311 heck yeah that's the dream!! A lot of stuff is pretty messed up here but one thing is for sure, if you have the will to do what it takes to live a different kind of life, there's a way!
@hansmemling2311 hey thank you too, it's always nice to meet another person who wants to say screw the city and go be self sufficient in the woods haha. One day we'll get there 🙂
