Bravissimi ! The three best "Armides" are: Handel, Jommelli and Sarti. A special feature of the libretto is that the dramatic development does not result from intrigues, as in Metastasio's texts, but from the inner conflicts of the protagonists. The power of Armida, who is initially far superior, gradually decays. Jommelli's music follows this dramatic development precisely and is unique in this respect compared to other contemporary operas. The composer did not limit himself to formal elements, but also interpreted the text in a picturesque way, motivically and harmonically. At the premiere on May 30, 1770 at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, a first-class cast - Anna Lucia De Amicis (Armida), Giuseppe Aprile (Rinaldo), Apollonia Marchetti (Erminia), Arcangelo Cortoni (Tancredi), Pietro Santi (Rambaldo), Gerlando Speciali (Dano) and Tommaso Galeazzi (Ubaldo) sang.

I recognize most of these characters from the Handel opera, but who is “Rodisbe”? Handel’s version had no such character

According to the libretto, she is Cleopatra's nurse. The character has been removed in Handel's version.

Quest’esecuzione è mirabile: voci espressive, nitide e potenti rendono concreti i protagonisti. Giulio Cesare viva! 🎶🎶🎵🎵😊

How could Lully compose such beautiful music to this story full of dramatical weakness? Sorry to quinault, this plot is confusing.... but thanks to him for all those moments that Lully inspired to this wonderful music , making Amadis one of his best operas. Amadis is a miracle....

Extraordinary. Excellently written and excellently performed. A. Scarlatti died in Naples on 22. 10. 1725., and was buried in the church of Santa Maria a Montesanto, where in the chapel of S. Cecilia you can still read the inscription on the tombstonea: «Heic,...., makimus " - "Here is buried the knight Alessandro Scarlatti, a man distinguished by balance, generosity and kindness, the greatest innovator of music"!

Coincidence, which leads to this wonderful opera - Graupner was admitted to the Thomasschule in Leipzig, where he studied from 1696 to 1704; law at the University of Leipzig, along the way befriending Telemann - but the Swedish invasion of Saxony sent him fleeing to Hamburg in 1706., orchestra of the Oper am Gänsemarkt in Hamburg under the direction of Reinhard Keiser. Eclectic musical styl Kaiser, Graupnera extremely popular with the Hamburg audience. Extra bellissima: 1:24:12 Chorus "Großer Mithra, Byrsens Schutz".

Extraordinary. Excellently written and excellently performed. Giacomelli "La Merope" (Venezia, 1734.), Vivaldi "Il Tamerlano" ("Il Bajazet") (Verona Carnival 1735.) - Giacomelli "Sposa... non mi conosci" (Aria of Epitide III, 7) Vivaldi put in his "Bajite (Aria of Irene II, 7)" Sposa son disprezzata". Geminiano Giacomelli was appointed chapel master of the Duke of Parma in 1724. After the performance of his opera entitled "Ipermestra", in 1724, he continued his studies with Alessandro Scarlatti in the city of Naples and became one of the most popular composers of his time. Between 1724 and 1740 he composed 19 operas and for many years worked at the Viennese imperial court. His most famous work is "Caesar in Egypt", 1735.

Extraordinary. Excellently written and excellently performed. L'opera serie - an very dense aesthetic jet, bearer of multiple meanings. A first layer of meaning - distortions that characterize the theatrical environment. On a deeper level, the work stigmatizes with happy irony the shortcomings charms and contradictions of drama for Metastasio opera series music and suggests new formal perspectives and new stylistic measures. "Opera in an opera" about customs and rules in opera production, about prima donnas, their mothers and & (SIC! who participate in making the opera), about the number of arias they will sing, etc. Thanks to Rene Jacobs - saved from oblivion - very important opera by the imperial composer Gassmann - as part of the Schwetzingen festival of 1994; then revived the show in Paris in 2003...
