Be's collect problems for any one of a number of reasons to seal up cracks and smooth off the surface on the inside so it's easier for the steal off all the cracks and breakfast to keep out. Care, be called ventilation is extremely important to the hive. And if there's stray air currents going through then they don't have control. That would affect the way the nectar gets cured in the honey. That would affect the way the temperature in the brood chambers are
I feed my nucs I make in July I like to feed them a bit to get them going I’m not taking honey from them this year and I make my sugar water with room temp water or even cold water works just have to mix it up good
My queens do not slow down soultis I never heard of it slowing queens down it not even July yet if your queen slows down it’s because she is weak lol my queens will go full out now until fall
I always give the hive 2 days to get the queen out. If she is still in the cage I will take out half of what's left of the sugar plug and check the cage the next day. She should be out by then and then I leave the hive alone for 7 days. Mind you the hives temperament is good while I'm doing this . This is how I know they will accept her out of the cage. I have a queen to check on tomorrow. Interestingly this hive is calm and wont budge for the smoker.
New hive new frames mate put a swarm in how long should I feed for it June 29 they seem to be happy and bringing back loads of pollen I can . I have been feeding them for the last few days regards Ben
Hi Laurence, great video as always, I will be making a split hopefully this year with a queen off you if poss, definitely if the weather carries on. A question if you have the time, I've got a nuc that's a couple of weeks old now, so far they've done a lot of work and grown a bell of a lot, weather down south has been phenomenal since I got them. I have fed them the whole time, 1st week they didn't take much but just did an inspection and they've taken the entire lot down this week, there is a fair bit of capped honey in the hive, they have drawn 8 frames almost fully and are starting to move into the outermost frames. I'm in 2 minds to feed any more as I found the queen wondering about on the latest drawn frame and couldn't see any eggs so I'm wondering if she's running out of room whilst they draw out the last frames as centre frames are packed? Should I hold off feeding, my thinking is they have stores to use and nectar plus the weather is decent so can forage? I've gotten conflicting advice. Some say feed till they've drawn everything and others have said to watch out she's not honey bound. I will tune in and ask on the live stream tonight if I can if you can't reply. All the best, Chester
Thank you for a brilliant explanation of what to do Laurence , my new Queen came today 🙂, my eight days will be this Monday, will she be okay until then ?, I’ve got the cage in a nuke just flat on the bottom with the frames removed , kind regards Billie
I’ve just brought her in, she is okay, I will wait until tomorrow and I can see better what I’m doing, I think that’s what you would tell me to do, Thank you Laurence, kind regards Billie
Excellent watched your live stream from the hives I thought it was great ,picture quality was good and could here you loud and clear great job as usual
How would the approach change if the colonies are large, but hopelessly queenless? I got very unlucky and all 3 of my hives swarmed at the same time, and no queens have returned. No hives have eggs or larvae but still a good workforce but looking like I'll have to introduce queens. I imagine you start the process from a later step?
Hallo Wie sind deine Erfahrungen mit dem smart system? Leider finde ich keine Videos auf You Tube und der Hersteller gibt keine Antwort auf meine Anfragen. Gruss aus der Schweiz.
@@BlackMountainHoney Thanks Laurence, trying to get some good stuff on the channel. Tough at the moment in running the restaurant too! Lets get a date for another vid! Would love to visit you this time!
