When I had my Motobecane Night Train fatbike, I was thinking about moving to Winthrop ... lots of wide open country around the area, and the Cascade Range right up the road really beckons a biker to explore! steve
It took me only 30 plus years to discover who Vinx is and was, nice work. Credit goes to KCSM radio in the Bay Area for playing his song Please Come Back and algorithms bringing me here.
Are you aware that you can get a mast extension for the opie rig|? you can raise the boom another 6" or so, makes it much easier, I've done it with mine.
In addition to the intriguing duck punt, our host Rusty has a remarkable collection of "adventure hardware" packed into his garage bay. Fun video. Excellent soundtrack. Thanks.
She had a few issues from previous owner mods and age, so I sold her to indulge my misplaced SCAMP fantasy. Huge mistake, I hated the SCAMP and couldn't sell it fast enough. I immediately started shopping for another M15, and found my sweet Sparrow. I couldn't be happier!
Hi Rusty .. watched your Monty 15’ here. This is Nick .. I was following you in Sparrow n Pop’s (Charlie) in his long green vessel. Never did hear this boats name. Cheers Nick.
Hi Rusty, nice video. What is the seat that you are using. You seem to have a stiffener with two lengths of cord running through it and a seat draped over it. I was interested for my Duck Punt as I could do with some back support. I agree about the weight of the punt. I am a big guy and I struggle to man handle it.
Funnily enough, it’s just one of the building frames from the original construction. Matches the profile really well. I just drilled four holes and ran some cord through so I can adjust it, and drop the cords over the thole pins I’m using, it puts me in just the right place. 👍
Duckpunts are so cool ... great video, thanks! PS: Dylan Winter of Keep Turning Left fame introduced me to this type of boat. Here's a link to my all time favourite duckpunt video ... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UYVYFFko9Ig.html ⛵🙂
I have that in my exhaustive Duck Punt playlist! Dylan was how we all learned about these unusual boats, he inspired me to build mine. I sure hope to get a Melonseed for myself one day. I missed out on one, they’re pretty rare in the PNW. ru-vid.com/group/PL0BwhVMcplm5TN40_DInR5rpQ_c2Zt7TG
I move my weight forward in light air, and probably a couple paddle strokes to bring the bow through if needed. In stronger wind I may need to do nothing, at most just move my weight forward a bit.
How can I find a new physical copy or digital format of "Cycles: Rivers and Planets"? I have a cassette dub from 1995, and it has been through many, many, listens. By far one of my favorite recordings, and definitely a timeless album.
Found you from your comment on Norman's post. I watched your Bouncy Day and Pics from Africa videos. You are pretty incredible! Love the music you choose. Great videos! And you knit!!!! My mom taught me to knit when I was young. I love it! My goal this year is to knit a pair of socks for the first time! I'm inspired. Keep up the good work and great videos!
That looks like a Phil Bolger type of sailing dory to me, but I'm new to boat building. What is that hull exactly? Also, your ability to go boating without having to use an automobile to transport your boat is really awesome!
Wow! Glad I found this video. Vinx blew the audience away at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1989 with his solo performance. Hell of a track and field athlete who was robbed of competing in the 1980 and 1984 Summer Olympics. A scholar and gentleman and innovative musician.
Ah! I thought I'd seen all the Typhoon videos on the 'net. But as soon as I saw your camera pan from the cockpit to the deck, I knew what you were sailing. I have a beautiful one called the Abby Marie down in Urbanna, Va, not far from the home of the fleet in Irvington. Perfect little boats, aren't they?
Really? That was a million years ago. Crazy times. I loved the heli lift out to the ship! That was one of the biggest crowds I ever played to, do you know how many sailors were on ship at that time?
No comments - let me be the first one than... First of, you are one of the people that inspired me to also build this fantastic little boat. Thanks for that !!! It is also my first and only sailing boat and I am still a Rookie. But for the conditions here, where I live, I consider it the perfect boat! Shallow water everywhere, always windy.... I sail the duck punt in the lightest breeze, and also go out in 20+ knots, which is a bit too much for her, but all possible. Surprisingly stable and seaworthy for a flat- bottom, even in a 3 foot swell... What more can you ask for... Like your video ! The paddle boarder, makes me smile... Enjoy your boat ! And without trying to spam your channel, check out some of my duck punt videos, if you like. Best from Indonesia...
That is fantastic! I'm so happy to have inspired you to build and sail a Duckpunt. I wish we could get more people on these interesting, challenging, and fun boats. Thank you for the comment! Have fun, be safe, and keep sailing!
@@alarmo I don’t think I’m going into a public forum and trashing a designer’s boat that a lot of people really love. It just wasn’t for me, in MANY different ways.
Great video! Thanks for going to the effort of editing and posting. Interested in Duckpunt style sailing, if not precisely going to make one. BTW, is that a Scamp in the garage?!
Thanks Joel! The boat would be a perfect one for the Seventy48! The rower? Not so much. 🤣 Maybe after a couple of years of training I’ll consider it, or maybe I’ll just go row on the lake, trailing the oars and napping in the shade, watching the ducks swim by. 😇
We did an early version of this song on “Drift”, a cassette only demo album from long before the release of the “Cycles” CD. The vast majority of this live version is complete improve by Mark, a perfect example of his limitless creativity, and fearless musical exploration. What a tremendous honor it was for me to accompany such a brilliant musician.
This song reminds me of a day when Mark and I were performing in a park and he sees a guy in a kilt walk by with a bagpipe. Mark says, “Hey, do you want to come up and jam?!” And the guy does! And it was one of the most amazing improvisational musical moments of my life. We ended up asking the guy to come into the studio to record “Mars” with us for the “Cycles: Rhythms and Planets” album. Mark was always fearless, always ready to take a musical risk. A brilliant talent, a light gone out in our world of music. RIP, brother.
