Silco doesnt want to make Vander into a martyr, he wants to make it seem like Vander ran away, but everyone in the undercity knows how much he cares for the children, so he took him alive to lure them out, and obviously kill all of them
Yes, but only as a hobby. :) i am writing a book currently, though, it is almost done. :) Arcane is really marvelous, the writing is so well done qnd the animations/direction are amazing as well :)
Those jump scares really got you! great reaction, and I agree, I like it when the villains are not just pure evil, that they have motivations that are understandable, where you could even see yourself almost agreeing with them. Like Silco's desire to free his people from the tyranny of Piltover. The desire for autonomy, and freedom is so strong amongst the oppressed. Something that often gets ignored is that every successful rebellion against tyranny had both a peaceful AND a violent component. MLK never criticized violent black liberation groups in America. The IRA was the violent wing of Sinn Fien. Nelson Mandela was the leader of the violent wing of the ANC. He was arrested for robbing a bank. Even Gandhi did not criticize groups that engaged in violent protest against the British occupation of India. The residents of the Under city need Silco to gain their freedom. But they also need Vander too. Vander's loss is a heavy one for them. If Silco had allowed Vander to be arrested, he could have used that to spark the rebellion he wanted. It certainly would have legitimized a sustained violent protest. The oppressor determines the nature of the protest. If the oppressor allows peaceful protest to exist, protest will be peaceful. Protest is *only* violent if the oppressor requires it to be so.
I think it wasn't shown as horrible enough living environment for people who are used to watching like post apocalyptic or abusive trauma stuff, but bad air, toxic water, everything built by scraps with no rules on safety etc, no education or loving/motherly type people anywhere is pretty bad by most realistic accounts, especially when you're just a bridge over from basically aristocratic high society with people that all have more than they ever need.
It's a good theory, but there's one flaw with it. If you look at the flashbacks, Vander is clearly much younger than he is on the bridge, and he has no beard. Whatever made him snap and turn on Silco, it happened a long time before the bridge.
The fugg, are you stupid!? Vi is also a child and just saw everybody get killed because of her sister, of course it was deserved that she hit her, doesn't mean it is deserved for an adult to hit her, but even that is just human. Just be glad you never were in a situation that leads you to hit somebody out of anger, hurt or angst.
the lore they establish for Viktor in this show also makes him one of my favorite characters! Him and Powder are my favorites from each side of the story, and that's not a disservice to the rest of the cast, I think they are all fantastic, it's just those 2 are either really deep layers to them or are surprising new additions ALSO the voice acting from Powder was phenomenal!!! Arcane got a bunch of awards from the annie's (like oscars but for animation) but I think she deserved a win for it. (I believe Ella Purnell got it for her performance in the later episodes)
my fav bit of detail in the books is that they actually fail a couple of times before they get the unfolding down right. they actually open up a proton which is hinted at having an entire civilisation hiding inside of it. like a big eye appears.
I'm glad you appreciate the realistic psychology. It's one of my favorite things about this show. Powder has a panic attack when she's left behind because she has crippling self-image and abandonment issues, and doesn't think through the possible consequences of her actions because she's just a child desperate to prove her worth. She has an anxious attachment style. Vi is an emotionally reactive teenager, so she lashes out to punish Powder's disobedience and hurt her the way she's hurting, then recognizes that she's gone too far, and steps away to collect herself. She has an avoidant attachment style. Silco is introduced as cartoonishly evil, but in this episode you not only get a backstory that explains his ruthlessness, but you see he also has the capacity to empathize. If you watch closely, you can see him process his way through cognitive dissonance. Powder hugs him. He is undoubtedly flooded with oxytocin and feels a swell of pity, much to his bewilderment. He then seems to find clarity when he recognizes his own trauma in her. His goals are no longer in conflict with his feelings; taking in this kindred spirit will not only give him a way to further his goals, but fill a hole in his life.
Yeah, but in his initial appearance he feels snobby/condescending, probably self-esteem issues from being from below. But my perspective on him changes a lot:D
While I'm sure Viktor's name is an allusion to Frankenstein, given the whole "weird science" connection, there's a different fictional character I believe he more strongly resembles. To say who would absolutely be a spoiler, though, so I'll wait until you have finished the series to explain.
@@storieswithstyle oh, very good. I see a lot of Doctor Faustus in Viktor, especially the Goethe and Christopher Marlowe versions of the character. Low born. Sickly (coughs up blood). An ambitious seeker of knowledge who turns to magic because natural law is too limiting. Gives himself over to dark power using his own blood. His ambitions cost the life of an innocent woman (Gretchen in the play, Sky in Arcane), leaving him to grieve. I would be very surprised if Faust wasn't one of the inspirations for Viktor.
My favorite thing about the first part is that as things are building up you start getting your hopes up that certain things will happen, and when they do it's bad. The biggest example is after Powder's first bomb fails and she has that chat with Vi where she's told they will work. It's so uplifting and hopeful and you think "Yeah! They will work!"... and then the monkey bomb works.
What i love about the set up is that we're pretty much trained to expect the " character who constantly fails saves the day in the end" trope with Powder and her explosives. However we're shown time and time again just how dangerous the blue orbs and how even trained professionals struggle with them so what chance does a twelve year old girl have. As a result we are expecting one ending yet what we get is what seems obvious in retrospect.
Maybe I’m dumb or just too trusting, but I’m confused where you got “stuck up” from Viktor? Shady I can see initially, but where was the stuck up? All I saw was a guy acting on some notes he was given from higher ups. I know you probably finished this already but I’m just always curious about character analysis initially from people.
I do not really know, he somehow felt really condescending. I wonder why, perhaps insecurity because of his background? Unsure, i also never got that feeling again from him. Same with the politician, really loved her by the end :D
First- frack marcus in the frackhole. Also, Silco was betrayed by Vander. Powder feels betrayed by her sister Vi. 🤔 I love this show so much. As I’m sure I’ve said before, enjoy the trauma.
I initially watched arcane to hate watch it. I ended up watching the whole thing 4 times in 6 months and I considder it the best media I've ever consumed. The whole show is a masterclass in storytelling and character writing. The use of silent storytelling, storytelling through colors, tropes done right and sometimes feinting tropes and going 180. Their portrail of mental illness, the father figure, children and teens, the fact that heimerdinger cant relate to the fact that humans have a short lifespan and wants to speed up progress because they dont have 200 years and silco is just the perfect "villain". Then there's the voice acting and art on top of that. Powders panic attack in this episode is done so perfect and the whole show is just a masterpiece
Now I can complete the arguments for my theory that there was no quality gunpowder that Powder could have acess to in the undercity: 1 - now we can confirm that in all those episodes, not a single zaunite has used a firearm, not even Silco's goons, which would have made killing Vi in the bridge trivial btw, they didn't use it, cause they didn't have it, and if anyone would have acess to it, it would be the ones trying to form a crime syndicate and a rebellion. That's actually kind of the whole point of developing Shimmer too, to have a mesma to fight back against piltover's superior technology. 2 - also, powders bomba never worked cause the blast force was never nearly what she needed it to be, and once she found a different fuel for that the blast completely worked. Also, I think they would have actually given her a gun If possible, knowing how good her aim was. One could argue It was something too dangerous to give child, but I argue if you're ok letting her tinkering with nail bombs, which are arguably even more volatile, well...
Silco is an amazing character he is a political firebrand and truly does what he does ultimately for the good of his people. He is just very machiavellian in the way he goes about it. He is an evil and ruthless person with noble goals that he will do anything to achieve. You can't help but respect that
