Maybe you just don't have the right patches for your Hydrasynth? Despite it's distinctly digital character, the Iridium sounds great for bass patches. The bass boost feature, along with the built in compressors help a lot in that regard. To get "warm" sounds out of it, requires getting to know the unusual dual filters and how they interact. That took me a little while, but was well worth the time spent.
I found your video while searching for brushes improvement ideas for my SPD-30 Octapad... These concepts (accessed slightly differently) should be achievable in the Octapad as well. Thanks again.
Out of curiousity, which Hydrasynth parameter allows for control via the XY pad on the far left? I tried ModWheel settings but I don't think that was it.

As soon as this is released I’ll be buying it. The choices you made in designing these presets are fantastic. All of them are very interesting and very useful for making music not just a tour of random sounds that might not fit in a composition.
Hi, congratulations on your execution, I wanted to ask for some advice. Because I have a problem that I can't solve. I purchased a TD50X module with the Digital, Roll, Ride and Charleston set. I use brushes very often, for the type of music I play. Unfortunately I wasn't able to set up the snare drum, to have a KIT that would satisfy me. Previously I had a TD30 with its Brush KIT, which worked perfectly. I contacted Roland several times, but I realized that they know less than me. The TD50X has a specific snare that should work with the brushes, in the 958 position of the instruments. I attributed this snare to a KIT, but the performance is really bad. I also looked for some Brush KITS on the internet that I could buy, without finding anything. I am really disappointed with my purchase, which cost me 3,700.00 euros. It is possible that the Rolanda in the TD50X KITS does not have a brush KIT already defined. Can you help me solve the problem. Thank you
Sounds very digitalised and high band frequency this synth. I think this made my decision that i prefer the Quantum mk11 tonally. Thanks for letting us hear it.
I do agree that the Iridium is unmistakably digital in character. It did take me some time to get used to that. But I definetly came to love the sound. It grows on you. Otherwise, I would not have created so many presets for it.
I have just bought these and they are nothing like the video (I am on a rise 2). Have I bought the wrong patches? Summit missing- Wavestation 1 and 2 do not behave same way, Strings missing etc. It svery different!
For sure there are significant differences in the original Performance preset pack and the MPE version. Unless the MPE version was specifically requested, you get the original performance pack by default. I received your email and have responded by sending you the MPE version which will match this video. I hope this solves your issue.

Thank you for the video. I have an older V-drum kit with PD-100's and PD-120's with the new PD-140DS that I'm using with a TD-50X. I have it set up as you demonstrated and still can't get a good sweeping sound from the snare drum. The sweeping sound is intermittently working mainly when I apply more pressure to the snare with the brushes. I wish I can get it to sound more realistic so that I can practice jazz on an e-kit. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry to hear that it is not working well for you at this point. I can't say why you are having this issue without being able to see how you have things set up and such. Pressure on the snare head should not be a factor influencing the sweeping, nor should it be working intermittently. The problem could lie with the brushes your using. Also make sure the snare head is tightened evenly. On the TD-50X, in the Trigger settings, make sure your snare model is correctly assigned, and you can adjust sensitivity if needed also.

The usual cause of this issue is that the MIDI channel(s) for the Part is not set appropriately. The default MIDI channel for a Part in Falcon is A1. That won't work for this purpose, so you need to change the channel setting for the part to OMNI, rather than just one channel. Try that and see if it resolves your issue.
Thanks a million for this. We just bought the roland v-drums td-27kv2 for my wife, who loves to play with brushes. This works with the TD-27 as well, though the menus and buttons are a bit different for navigation. We're still tweaking things, but we would have figured this out without your help. Thanks again!
The Cubase version is an add-on feature and is limited in features. The tutorial video features the stand -alone full pro version (6) of Spectral Layers and is priced accordingly.
this is the best (by far!) Preset collection for Hydrasynth that I have found. Typically, I like 20-30% of the presets in a collection. In this case, 95% are keepers. And in addition to amazing default sounds, there’s lots of customization via macros. I hope you can do a follow up someday!
Thank you for your interest. I do happen to sell original soundware for certain modern synthesizers on this channel, but hadn't considered doing that for the V-Drums. I have created a number of kits, many making use of samples I created over many years. But I really haven't put together enough of these kits to make for a complete sellable product, although I might get there at a later date. If that happens, I will announce it on this channel. Sorry, but don't provide downloads for individual kits.
Roland isn't using the full potential of their new digital pads with the TD-50. The pads themselves should be able to detect brush hits as opposed to drumstick hits instantly without any setting changes, the module just isn't capable of it. Hoping their next flagship module makes better use of the technology.
The pads are very sensitive and respond properly to sticks or brushes. No update needed there. But the response algorithms in the module do need to be chosen for the specific playing style via the "Brushes" button. It would be nice if that happened automatically, but I don't see how that would be possible. Meanwhile, it's hardly a big deal to simply push the "Brushes" button, (and optionally hit "save" such that your brushes kits are ready to go) and be playing straightaway with the right sound and feel. So no complaints from me!
not to be picky but the removal of noises for the bird clips makes the orignal bird sound like a weird digital artifact. All of the natural sound is gone
That's how the bird actually sounds, which is why I wanted to sample it in the first place. On my studio monitors, removing the background noise did not affect the bird sound in any way. See, unlike RU-vid viewers, I heard the bird in its natural environment before the recording was made, so I'm quite clear on the "natural" sound.
I agree. Big companies tend to not bother to add features or content unless the demand reaches a certain threshold. Apparently not enough drummers are demanding brushes kits. At least Roland provided all the elements for users to do it.
@@Demonstrations_SP I’ve just moved to edrums for a couple of years again while I’m renting. Miss my lovely Hendrix acoustic kit already. It’s a pain to get around the Roland right now. However, after watching your video, I have a reasonable first shot at a brushes kit.

I am using the TD 50x as a midi module. After I change to brushes and play the midi keys on my keyboard still the snare sounds as a normal snare. Only way I can get the brush sound is from changing the snare to brush sample which is not very realistic sounding. Any ideas. Thx
Sorry to give you the bad news, but It's important to note the the Roland TD-50X is not sample based, at least not in any traditional way. Instead it relies on technology called "Prismatic Sound Modeling" and "Behavior Modeling". As such, getting a realistic sound requires the right kind of instrument along with being dependent on the playing techniques of the performer. As such, while many sample based electronic drum modules might serve you better, The TD-50X is not going to give you anything close to the sounds you're after being played as a MIDI module from a keyboard. In particular the "Brush Snare", which is certainly not a sample, will only sound "realistic" when played with nylon brushes on the Roland PD-140DS digital snare drum.

Good suggestions... I created my own Brush Kit as well and solved Head/Rim volume issue somewhat differently. I split the Head and Rim in the Mixer and turned the Head volume up a bit and the Rim volume way down. I'll have to play around with putting a Max limit instead of reducing gain. The problem I was running into was when I played flutters a loud rimshot was created, when there should be none. I got playable flutters, but still not completely satisfied compared to an analog kit. I also layered a snare sample.
Cool! The volume issue for me was more than just the discrepancy between the head and rim, but also the discrepancy between the sweeping action and the head shots being too dynamically extreme. The best way I found to solve that is with Max limit and/or compression, although perhaps not the only way.
@@Demonstrations_SP thanks for the tips! BTW, you can use live wire brushes... they have a solder ball on the end to not catch the mesh. To me they have a much better feel than nylon.
Thanks. Yes, for the speaking aspect, I relied on the built-in mic on the iPad I was using to record the video. I soon realized that didn't work real well and I had to do a lot of processing to make it audible. I'll do it differently and better next time.
@@Demonstrations_SP Here is a tip. We got a Shure MV88 for voiceover work. It plugs right into the lightning adapter on an Iphone or Ipad. Sounds way better than the built in mics. There could be other similar products out there. Some video editing software have a built in denoiser and volume optimizer as well.
@@Edrumcenter Thank you for your tip. I did use a sophisticated application to remove the considerable amount of noise as well as utilizing heavy compression to level the volume, but it made the voice sound a bit weird. I think the biggest issue was the distance from the mic, which since I needed the whole kit in view, was about 20 feet away. I'll find a better solution next video.
