I'm making this now in my pressure cooker. I added 1 jalapeno sliced, some diced celery and a can of Rotel tomatoes. I did boil the dried beans and let them simmer for an hour first. My home smells amazing. Thank you for this video post.
I had some apples and needed to use them up before they went bad. I was scrolling through RU-vid and found your recipe. I just made your delicious Southern Fried Apples. YUM! Topped off with a bit of whip cream--double YUM! Thank you for sharing.
I love Steen’s, which I can usually get at Winn Dixie here in south Mississippi, and I love that cake, too. I remember my grandaddy eating cane syrup with biscuits, too. 😊 I even have a photograph of his grandfather next to a sugar cane press for making their own syrup waaay back in the day. I love how real your video is, with the towel over the mixer. I hope you got a new mixer or had that one serviced. ❤
Even if you have real fresh eggs you can get them to peel good. Do this next time. Have eggs at room temp. Put a pan of water on stove get it boiling put eggs in slow not to break. Cook 10 min. Take off heat let set 5-10 min and drain cover with cool water and peel. You can put eggs in a jar with lid and small amount water shake and shells come off easy.
She got it right but I and my Mom and Grandmom made it a little different but kinda the same and is the BEST thing in the world!! A little thinker is better in my book!
I had been looking for a good divinity recipe, so I tried this one. It came out AMAZING! The only thing I did differently was that instead of pecans, I used dried cranberries and chopped pistachios. My goodness is it delicious. Your instructions are spot on and very easy to follow. Thank you so much for the recipe it's one I didn't have. It brought back so many lovely memories of my grandmother's candy.
I like you! You're funny, you're entertaining, and I love cornbread dressing! Yours sounds like what my Mother used to make! Of all the things she cooked, her biscuits and dressing were the best! Believe it or not my brother can make it just like she did! But he's in TX and I ain't going back there even for the dressing!!😁
Can this be made a day ahead, and put in the refrigerator to cook the next day, or should I cook it,refrigerate it, and cook the next day. Not sue I'll get an answer this late.
Hi Jackie! New subscriber, here! Learned how to make French dressing in middle school! I make all my salad dressings from scratch. Everyone loves my homemade dressings. It’s so much better and economical. It a no brainer!
I'm definitely going to. I was born and raised in Texas and we had what we called Fried Cornbread....like a pancake, but I never had this. I can't wait! Thanks so much for sharing!!!
My mom sent me the Calling All Cooks Cookbook (AT&T Pioneers Alabama Chapter No. 34) and this recipe is in it. I don’t recall my Granny ever making this cake, but my mom says she used this cookbook. I was feeling nostalgic for my Granny’s cooking. None of us ever wrote down her recipes before she passed away and I feel like true Southern cooking and baking is becoming a lost art. Thank you for your recipe. It’s exactly like how this cookbook has it. I’m a visual learner so it was nice to find a video to go with the written recipe.
Divinity is my husband's favorite candy and I am going to try to make this for him! I am going to do a few test runs first but this video is very helpful! Also, love your Basset!! I have a Basset helper as well! Lol
My husband is from the south,,never grew up with a busy or life with a lot of choices either,,and you made me laugh with your comment about loving to go back. That’s awesome,,and your recipe looks great,,Thank you for posting it, I’ve been looking to make him a version far from store bought!
Search for "Boiled Frosting" which is very close to Divinity in taste and texture. Not "Seven Minute Frosting". "Boiled Frosting" (sometimes called "Boiled White Frosting" gets a hard crust as it cools.
