I'm making this now in my pressure cooker. I added 1 jalapeno sliced, some diced celery and a can of Rotel tomatoes. I did boil the dried beans and let them simmer for an hour first. My home smells amazing. Thank you for this video post.

🌟⭐️ [ 👍👍 ] ⭐️🌟 Jackie, thanks so much for sharing this recipe, as well as the lesson on how Black-eyed peas became known as the good luck symbol for us southerners ! I prefer a crock pot for dried beans and peas, as well. " Happy New Year's blessings to you and yours in Jesus' mighty name. Amen ! " 🌟 ⭐️ 🌟

Happy New Year Jackie. I'm making your recipe now. My top is rattling on high. The Beans and Hocks are boiling. Is that normal? I just took the top of to stir. So the top stopped rattling. I'm sure it's going to start again when it gets hot. Should I just leave it alone? It looks kinda watery. How much water should I have used for a half of 1lb. bag of peas and 1 small hock? I put 4 cups in.

In the video, I soaked them overnight but that’s not necessary unless you’re cooking with tomato products. The acid in tomatoes keeps dried beans from softening.

Thank you so much. I can't cook dry peas or beans for the life of me!😂😂😂. I will definitely try your crockpot method.
@missmaam792
@missmaam792 3 года назад
@Virginia Reid , I soak dried beans overnight in cold water (a big bowl with lots of water, more than just to cover) on the kitchen counter then drain and rinse. I never add salt to the beans when first cooking and I wait until the end. Now, dried black eyed peas I will soak for at least a few hours (again with a lot of water). Don't add salt to the cooking black eyed peas until the end, particularly if you're using a smoked ham hock which is salty enough as it is. Bay leaves are a must for almost any bean dish cooking.

@@virginiareid5336 , for Mexican pinto beans watch ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u91tayIIbZo.html The sound is horrible and it goes on a little long but I like the end product. A big however . . . I would soak those pinto beans overnight in cold water. Edit: And add a dry bay leaf in the pot when cooking.

😉THIS IS HOW I PREPARED MY CROCKPOT BLACKEYE PEAS on 6/9/2018......THANKS! 👉all ingredients are from walmart. 👉Bonus NOTE: IIIII cook my "PINTO BEANS" the same way & at the same cook time as the black-eyed peas.. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE ISSSSSSS I DON'T USE BAYLEAF for the pinto's. and please don't use "NOOOOO TOMATOE PRODUCT FOR NOTHING! IT'S NOTTTTTT NEEDED FOLKS!. believe me!. I pre-soaked a 1lb bag of Greatvalue Brand Blackeyed Peas in the fridge for 8hrs in 5cups of water & 1 tbsp of Baking Soda. (I Picked & Rinsed them be4 Soaking, & I Rinsed & Drained them after Soaking, & placed them back in the fridge. Next 2. I Turned on My Crockpot to (HIGH) Poured 6 cups of Greatvalue Brand Low Sodium Chicken Broth in. Next: I Seasoned the Broth with "a little Garlic" & Onion Pwdr, Season-all Seasoned Salt, A dash / or a sprinkle of Crushed Red Pepper Flakes, & 1 Bay Leaf. *season per your TASTE. Next: (I tasted the broth & it was perfect!) BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVER SALT 3. Next: I Placed 1 "HUMONGOUS" Hamhock by itself "Without The Peas" In the Crockpot,....I let the Hock cook on HIGH from (8am to 12pm) without checking on it, it was falling off the bone after those (4hrs yay!) 4. Next: I Got the Peas out of the fridge. "remember they were already Rinsed & Drained of any liquids" I Poured them into the Crockpot With The falling off the bone Hamhock, I also added 1/2 slice of a large Green Bell Pepper & Continued to Cook on HIGH until 2pm, I could have cut it off at 1:45pm tho.
