I am a RETIRED Assistant Chief at Newark Fire Department. My videos are dash-cam videos captured while I am operating at fire scenes. The purpose of uploading this content is to share training material for other firefighter and fire officers who want to expand their knowledge. Note: We are all trained a little differently, therefore we all do things a little differently. We don't have to agree on strategy and tactics, but please keep it respectable. My way may not be your way. That doesn't necessarily make either of us wrong or right. I am happy to answer questions or provide additional information if necessary.
Not sure if those vehicles parked in front of the building slowed down operations but it seems to me that FDs could benefit from having a way to move vehicles.
At 3:45, it appears that a member of one of the fist due companies may be trying to get a quick layout of the building from an occupant. If so, that's a heads up move! A lot of people don't seem to understand just how helpful that can actually be to the crew as they are trying to work their way through the building in zero visibility. Great work by all and another great video from Chief Decker! Enjoy your retirement sir!
Mr Decker, thank you very much for these videos. I am at a volunteer fire department down in little old Australia. Many of our policies and procedures are the same, yet different. I think I made a comment a few years ago and I remember something along the lines of stay safe, listen to those that teach you and pay attention! I am generalizing, however thank you Sir! I am now the training officer as well as a non officer rank (Senior Fire Fighter) as well as the training officer. I've played a couple of your vids and, simply... Thank you! I am not sure if you ever intended to make a difference to people half a world away, yet you have. Again thank you! Hopefully I and the rest of our organization get younger people to the point that they need to be to continue. Thanks!
I remember This One Chief Wow That Was a Crazy one At first i Didn't Understand Why You went Defensive Till You Explained this Tonight Thank you, Chief
Thanks for sharing this video Chief and going over the play by play of the incident. It’s really helpful to newer command officers like myself and I look forward to more of these! I’ll be attending a lecture of yours in October in Fairport Harbor, excited to take your class again!
Thank you Battion Chief Decker for your service and knowledge. Your teaching is amazing. Please keep these videos coming. I'm not a firefighter, but wish I would have pursued a career in fire fighting.
Keep them coming boss and hope your enjoying your retirement...also maybe explain a bit more what's being said in the chatter and or explaining common words in your industry that we may not know what your referring to, again keep them coming I'm a huge fan
Coming to this in 2024, I just would like to compliment your community, sir. They are respectful, attentive to emergency traffic, and make way for you (and presumably your team). I hope it’s still like that in your area, it’s not common in mine these days. All the best!
Very sad to see such a beautiful old house on fire. Luckily, from Google Maps it looks like it was restored after the fire! Glad no one was hurt. What the cause of it if I may ask? Great video!
Looking forward to the next video. Love knowing the why of the decisions and the extra information of these videos. There is almost nothing like this out there. Hoping you’re enjoying retirement.
Very happy for this video series. Congratulations on your retirement. I would love to see more of this. I believe it is very beneficial to the fire service. I would also love to see you put out some training material.
Newark, Ohio fire department and it's surrounding mutual aid. Departments are one of the most professional departments. I've ever encounter. You guys work professionally. And and you work as a seamless team.God bless everyone of you
May I ask the funding circumstance of this department? It doesn't seem like there is enough money to go around but regardless of this circumstance you still run better than some stations with a budget bigger than they need.
