With all respect to the commentators... hearns was in a way finished after round one but hung in there only to be pummelled. 6 love over confidence after a quick demise of Duran.
Whatever are you talking about? Try listening to CGAVEZ vs TAYLIR. Pure American biased bullshitttt from start to finish. American commentators just ramble, talk nonsense throughout a fight, and miss the action. Or try Duran vs Barclay. Non atop verbal diorrhea, praising Barclay, and barely mentioning that Duran was giving him a thumping.
I actually saw this when it happened -- through closed circuit TV. I never get tired of watching it, over and over, through the years. Legendary fight between two great fighters. I sure agree with commenters who idolized Hagler, one of the greatest, perhaps the greatest, middleweight. But back then I was scared of Hearns and a lot of fans naiively compared these two via their common opponent, Duran, and going into this fight most people were saying Hagler needed to stay away from Hearns and go the distance. I'm sure Marvin was pissed that anyone would think he needed to do that against a true welterweight and, as Curry discussed here, it was really the other way around. But you can see that Hagler opens up with a thundering attack and, like many warriors, Hearns just could not help but get into a slugfest. If you're a fan you've seen that kind of fight many times, usually great fights. But here Hearns was simply outgunned by the true middleweight. I later found out how classy Hearns was outside the ring. I believe he changed weight too many times and fought too many big fights, it took its toll. I read somewhere someone said he's now broke?! Also I always love to hear British commentary.
Back when boxing was BOXING. None of this "Ive beaten you...but lets have 2 more....rematch clause bullshit". We want a champion to defeat someone then move on to the next challenger and beat him, then UNIFY all the victories into holding ALL the belts. Look at the HW division; Fury avoiding Usyk with the 2 of them being called World Champion. An insult. The champion must prove he is THE champion, undisputed.
I agree. But times have changed . . Today fighters have more control over their careers and make obscene amounts of money at the elite level. Maybe a good many of them today are not as hungry as someone like Hagler, but they are superbly trained and healthy, plus they learn from great fighters of the past.
Imaginen la emoción del referee, tocando a los peleadores en pleno combate, oyendo los impactos, definitivamente la mejor ubicación para ver una pelea...
He didn't really have a chance to. Hearns got to him right away and I think Duran wasn't sure what to do. Duran's worst loss but he came back. Also Duran's loss to Benitez was kind of embarrassing.
That just goes to show you how strong Hagler was. He threw a long overhand right that just clobbered Hearns , knocking him into the following week. RIP MARVELOUS MARVIN 🥊 🥊
He had all the skills I can think of. He could box, he could infight, he clinched when necessary, he could brawl . . he was a southpaw . . and he could switch! And underneath all that he was a tough angry warrior who has hungry as hell and dodged for big money fights for a long time. Over his long career leading up to his championship he continued to learn and grow. RIP Marvelous One. I was shocked by his death, kinda strange and premature.
One big reason this was a war is something a lot of people don't remember. Hearns was out for revenge against Hagler because Marvin had KOd one of Hearns friends and fellow Kronk fighter William "Caveman" Lee, in the first round a few months back. You guys wanna see another great fight, watch Caveman Lee vs John LoCicero, it was a war!!!!
@@6400az He had the strength and pressured Hearns well. He clearly studied the Hagler fight. He just lacked the ability to corner him like Hagler did and lacked the ability to precision punch. He was just firing everything with abandon.
@@renzopeterson153, Mr. Paterson, I wrote that because both Fighters admitted to it. Roldan said in Spanish while he was being interviewed. Since U have an extensive knowledge of Boxing, here is my Mt Rushmore of Boxing: 1). Marvelous Marvin Hagler, 2). Floyed Mayweather, 3). Julio Cezar Chavez, & 4). Smoking Joe Frasier. Honorable mentions: Duran, Both Sugar Ray's, Ali, Alex Arguello, The Motor City Cobra, Holmes, Damn his name escapes me!, Tyson bit his ear off, Clubber Lang, & Apollo Creed.
It was a fake stoppage. The signal from the referee to ringside officials came when he checked on haglers cut. Hearns gave it his all but when they realised he couldn't KO hagler early on and he was gassed they cashed him out.
Wqtch again. Watch the secind half of R2. Hagler pinned Hearns on the ropes and destroyed him. I'm pretty sure he was finished at the end of that round. Hagler just hunted him down after that.
