I watched your build vid on this bench. Great vid and even better bench. I love the color that SYP has taken on and it'll only get better. Love it man.
This was a joy to watch. We spent some time hand setting and proof printing type in my first year at art college in 1979. Even then it was on it's way out. There is. I believe, something meditative about engaging in processes that just take time.
This was a great vid! Reminds me of Grandpa. He was a small-town old school newspaper publisher, with a little weekly paper. His shop was right out of 1910, with 2 Linotypes, and a huge newspaper press that was as big as a pickup truck! He could spot a typo reading backwards; he minded his p's and q's! LOL! I always think of him chomping on a Roi-Tan cigar, typing away furiously on his Linotype! He was very modern, though...all his presses were electric. There were electric motors that turned those big flywheels using belts. These machines were fascinating for a kid to watch in operation; gears and cams, and wheels, all moving together in a complex dance. The sounds of the presses running is etched forever into my memory.
I am RIGHT NOW, in the middle of WATTLING the flower gardens on ALL of the farm... uh,10 acres 😮😅❤❤IT WAS ORIGINALLY TO KEEP A 145 lb. GREAT DANE out! It works for springer spaniels too!😊😊😊
Tablesaw (1:24) Not only no blade guard, no riving knife either. Shame.

I won't argue that it's always preferable to maximize safety features but the reality is many saws were/are built without these things included, like my little Craftsman here. It's still possible to practice safe handling without all possible safety features.
I would regard using a table-saw without both a riving knife and blade guard as completely unacceptable. I am not alone. Attempting to do so, in a commercial environment (in my jurisdiction), would result in instant dismissal- for good reason. c30,000 people need medical intervention for table-saw incidents every year in the US alone. 4000 result in amputation. Research indicates that two-thirds of these events would be prevented by having a blade guard/riving knife. Can they be safely used without? Why try- there is no reason not to have these present. Most of all, it is not a practice to show on YT, where impressionable viewers may not realize how irresponsible it is. Do you want to be responsible for the maiming of your viewers?
I learned on C&P presses in HS. I was a hit in the first "real" job I had because I had that knowledge. The addition of Kluge feeders was pretty cool, but we even used a C&P for printing the inside of gift box lids, hand fed. The smell of ink brings those memories right back, lol. This was cool, thanks!
great vid, also gotta say love your workbench video, have watched it 3 times over the course of my own bench project any plans to do more woodworking videos or did that hobby die
