You were walking up towpaths. Your route was along the northern section of the Itchen Navigation, which ran from Northam to Winchester. I was linked, at Northam, with the Southampton Salisbury Canal, which was never completed. There's quite a lot of information on both waterways in the main libraries of Southampton and Winchester.
Adelaide was named for the Queen consort at the time. Victoria was the future queen,. There would have been a lot of interest in the British monarchy. After George 111 and his mental health issues, the regency and the short reign of George 4, short reign of William 4/ 4 monarchs within 35 years . Certainly big influencers of the day. queen Adelaide was well loved. We were told in history class that she was instrumental in keeping William in check to get him over the time needed for Victoria to be old enough ( to not need another regency.) If Victoria’s mother had taken over spas reagent she would have been heavily influenced by her Svengali like advisor. Who knows how things had turned out. We, thankfully, will never know.
Krakow wasn't destroyed during the war, so there is more "consistent" architecture contained within the Planty park. Wroclaw, and also Gdansk have some world-class architecture, but also some scars from the war in the shape of some commie constructrions.

Thank you for this video Rob. I am going to visit Warsaw for the first time for the Taylor Swift concert in August. My Polish girlfriend lives in Warsaw and got tickets through work. Sorry, we only get two tickets. Love your videos and Charlie’s contributions are invaluable for a Poland newbie.
These arent traditional gołąbki... probably you got a mushroom and buckwheat with some wine reduction and normally its minced meat with rice and tomato sauce which is crazy good.
In Jesus's NAME I want to be in Gdansk this year 2024 though we still have the struggles with the appointment dates from the polish Embassies world wide greetings from The REPUBLIC OF UGANDA
that clip you filmed off the geelong player (joel selwood) covering his face and being picked up by his teammate after he kicked a goal was because even though he hadn’t publicly announced it, everyone had a feeling he’d be retiring not long after the grand final, which he did few end up doing, and i’m sure it’s safe to assume that he’d already told his teammates it would be his last game, considering the way they got around him after his goal. during that speech from the sydney captain; “joel selwood, sometimes you have to pinch yourself when you play alongside legends of the game, and hes an absolute legend” was about him. Just thought i’d give you some context, winning the grand final was like the cherry on top to his amazing career and he will go down as one of the greats of the game. You could even year the crowd cheer louder when he got his medal, i think everyone had a feeling he would retire soon. hes now a leadership coach for a NRL team
In Warsaw we also have buildings with bullet holes. Eldery people don't allow to renovate those buildings as they believe fixing those holes would romove the memory of what happened there.
Fun Fact: Adelaide has the highest rate of meth use per person, not just of any city in Australia... but of any city anywhere. And by a wide margin. Literally the meth capital of the world. The entire world. All of it.
Loved this video, thank you. The Blue Mountains is the largest wet canyon system in the world, with over 800 canyons and also forms the widest canyon. So glad you enjoyed it!
