Lies Of P is my favorite Souls game besides Elden Ring, it really is that good. Beat it about 5x, now I’m just patiently waiting for the DLC. Genuinely a masterpiece that improved on certain aspects of the souls series which include Story telling & weapon customization. The game is damn near perfect & it’s the studio’s first souls like; This is what you get when the studio is managed & ran by gamers who play the games they make.
Lies of P is a top 3 souls style game for me. Dark Souls 1 for nostalgia, Bloodborne for being close to perfection and then Lies Of P absolutely blowing my mind. Story, vibes, combat… creative meanness in game design lol an absolute masterpiece and I agree it is under appreciated
U ain't gonna get any hate comments from me fella! I've beaten every FromSoft game and played many other Soulslikes, and this is better than everyone apart from being as good as Sekiro, and the only game that does beat it is Bloodborne in my opinion! I absolutely loved it! The FromSoft fanboys can take their tongues out of Miyazaki's corn-hole and kiss my arse if they can't handle someone else's opinion! Lies Of P is fantastic and the ending of the game with the red shoes gets me excited for their nxt game! I hope they can do it consistently cos it's about time FromSoft had someone who can stand toe to toe!
This was the first Soulslike game I've ever had interest in playing, I've tried Demon Souls and Dark Souls but this is the one that I've actually wanted to complete. Actual Masterpiece. Also, favourite boss? Romeo, the King of Puppets. Especially during the second playthrough where we finally hear everything the Puppet5s are saying, heartbreaking in the best way.
Lies of p did something incredible that most people don't talk about and its really sad. Merging the gaurd/block mechanic (similar to sekiro's deflect) into a souls genre. Souls genre has generally been the same (never played bloodborne so...), the game always was about dodging rather than blocking. Sekiro introduced something that felt like you are really actually fighting the bosses (because of deflect mechanic), rather then souls game felt like you are defeating them using game mechanics. Lies of P, imo, took things one step further. It not only managed to merge a similar system from sekiro but also made it tighter that mixed surprisingly well into souls like combat. If you add block/ or deflect mechanic in a souls game, for example dark souls 3, the game suddenly would become very easy to beat. Because the animations of dark souls 3 bosses were made in mind that players can dodge them or block with shield, thus slower animation. Lies of p, upgraded this by having a tighter timing block system, which resulted in even harder movesets for bosses. Unlike sekiro, you can't spam the block button, where you think you can leave block button if your timing is off, and you pressed block too early, if you leave and press again, you will die in process because the animation for that is not like sekiro and is slow, in sekiro spamming generally did the job. Now if the boss animation were more slower, less brutal you could abuse the block mechanic and feel the game is easy. Round8 took things more further. Even if you understand the block mechanic, you still will be thrown off by enemy attacks and you will see that every enemy is hard, because lies of p was designed by keeping in mind the block mechanic. Even if you master it, you still will feel difficulty spikes. So for that reason, they made bosses with faster movesets to counter block mechanic and push you to limit to use it. Dodging is also possible tho, but its much harder in later game. Devs idea for this game, I think, was to upgrade souls formula in sense that introducing something into souls combat that not only made it harder to master but also introduced bosses having movesets for that. So you block or have a 'parry system' (people like to call it) which is more harder then sekiro's and you have bosses, which are souls like, abusing it. So your only option is too get good. Thus alot of bosses, especially in late game test that mastery of the mechanic you have. This is where it gets controversial, lies of p after patch 1.3 changed that. First you used to struggle in almost every fight because of faster animations, but now only real challenge are handful of bosses. If you don't believe me you can watch a comparison video and play the demo for the difference. In patch 1.3, having slower animations and giving a bit more forgiveness over not perfect blocking (increasing the timing for it) changed the philosophy design for this game. I thought patch 1.2 was enough, because it already tried to change it but 1.3 was overkill.
I think the title of this video more or less communicates exactly how I feel about this game. It's really sad how many people skipped this one because they assumed it'd just be another uninspired souls-like, and honestly, even I wasn't expecting much when I started playing, but I ended up falling deeply in love with it for its story, music, art direction and its surprisingly deep combat.
If you want to play or already are playing and the difficulty is somethiing you're worried about. Just gather some ergo and buy a lot of throwables. You can get them from the merchant in the red lobster building, travel to that stargazer and it's literally right inside the building and up the ladder. The throwables make the game waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay easier. If you mainly want to enjoy the atmosphere and story then there's no big deal using that method.
if I had the expertise to make my dream of a spiritual successor to Auto Modellista mixed with some elements of My Summer Car. New Blood is who I'd go with to publish it but alas. Seeing the stuff devs go through hurts my brain. Closest I ever got to game development was two shitty skyrim mods I made.
This game's graphics are great for their time and still hold up to this day. When i played the hd remaster, i had zero problems with it crashing, and you've also got to understand that it is an old game so of course the controls won't be modern.
Best remake ever and best resi easily. This game is in my top 10 ever. Sorry to hear you had so many issues with it. The crashes especially suck. Never crashed on my but ive only played the gamecube version and ps3 and ps4 remaster.
First I didnt like the concept of fighting puppets. Then some reviews said the game is too hard. Then I watched Asmongold play it and i felt some kinda love for this game. Then I read that you can have a specter for the bossfights and I bought the game and it is really so beautiful. Nice small levels, interesting surroundings, especially the world fair vibe is something mindblowing when you are curious about what knowledge and achievements have been in this world already 100 years ago.
I was blown away by how good this game was. Just beat nameless puppet last night and my jaw was on the floor on my entire experience with this game. So good
It would be top tier if 75% of the bosses didn't have 2nd phases. Or if they did. It allowed you to start at their 2nd phase if you die. Each boss way to much health compared to your damage output only to go into an even more difficult phase 2
Amazing 1st effort, Better then some From games, but not quite up to Par with the best of From. The future is very bright for the studio and thus for the genre in general.
The only bad thing with drg is the lack of new weapons and by that I mean there should newer kinds of weapons like hybrid weapon between melee and range like a gun with an axe shot/hack mechanic or an 2h hammer with inbuild rockets for an increased chargepummel effect. Dwarfs are build for melee warfare so that would be an experience for me atleats.
Favourite boss fight was Walker of Illusions, a beautiful parry dance that was so rewarding when you won, also loved the nameless puppet another great fight. for whatever reason, I had the most problems with the puppet king but nothing too off putting. What a game, probably the best unknown game I've played. The start was very clunky but as the game opened up so did the combat options. I cant wait to see what they do next. Instant purchase from me.
it was the first boss i took down without a specter because that was not allowed. i rarely learned how to manage a boss fight in many souls and souls-like games because i got myself online support. here it wasnt possible but i wanted to continue the game. yes, it was really a nice fight and i am proud that i sticked to it. i dream of playing Sekiro one time but I dont know if I will have the nerve.
I'm just going to be brutally honest here on two things bro first of all just be honest about your opinion to do with an old game of you feel that you just don't like something about it nobody's going to get mad at you I agree there is some things in old video games that are really annoying but of you love the nostalgia of them because you grew up in the '90s or you were somebody in the early 2002 played games like resident evil in general that's the only reason you put up with them and my second opinion is I do agree with where you're coming from on this video because I will admit there's a lot of difficult things you got to do and resident evil 1 in general to even remotely get anything out of it like for instance there's the samurai edge for the game that can help you get the infinite rocket launcher and then you got to go through the 2-hour run time of getting the infinite rocket launcher or 3 hour and it's just a pain in the ass and I will let you know I've beaten normal mode under 2 hours before and I still only got the samurai edge and not the infinite rocket launcher at the same time I don't know why that happened it might have been a glitch but I understand what you're coming from man if you're having issues with the game I do agree it needs a remake because it might lead to other games like code Veronica and resident evil zero also getting remakes cuz those two games badly need them
idk who told you that you can change your character midgame in paladins, that is just entirely false. also paladins has an item system like overwatch and has a similar character-specific build system in it like gigantic as well
this is why certain games need gatekeeping, because someone will try to get in and say "I don't understand this, I don't understand that", "this sucks" , imagine 10 to 12 year old playing this classics can enjoy classic Resident Evil, on the other hand, some "mature" player this generation just don't get it. This is one of those "Git gud" situation
Is it worth it to go back now? I was interested on this game 5 years ago and had dropped it because it felt like a dead game. Is it really alive now more than ever?
Good review, I understand your grievances (the door animations do get old) but the camera angles add to the horror/fear aspect. Other than that, was fun to listen to.
I have played it for over 300 hours, and I'm still playing it. I've beaten bosses without taking damage, in under a minute, and I've gotten all the acheviments. I think this is worth your time
Love this video! It’s odd to me that you talk about Sekiro having more generous parry timing because I literally cannot get that timing down at all, meanwhile I have no issue with the timing in Lies of P - it just instantly made sense to me.
I believe there are literally more frames to parry in Sekiro, the difference is in the timing itself. I saw a visual model someone made on Reddit (I think) while I was working on this video, and it really helped me not only understand but actually get better at Sekiro. Whereas LoPs timing is a lot closer to when the attack lands, Sekiro’s is actually a few frames before the attack. If I can find it I’ll come back and link it.
Found it very fast, here you go. www.reddit.com/r/LiesOfP/s/9VqcabA26I It’s not exact, but it does help visualize what I meant a little better. Probably could’ve included in the video!
After seeing the gameplay for literally 10s I said: "this game is gonna die in like 3 months". Just checked the Steam charts, game has already lost 90% of the playerbase in the first month. How is it possible developers spend years working on projects thar are so obviously dead on arrival? And doing it twice? Holy shit.
