I have one. It's not a fantastic deal like the Beluga unless you absolutely must have the Wrangler body. This one is also the weird wheelbase like the Beluga. I'll feel better if they start selling Wrangler bodies like the Beluga/Bronco. The locking differentials are for you or not for you depending on what you want. The Wrangler body was an absolute must have for me, so I went for it. I've already put in spare TRX4 Sport axle units I bought from Jennys RC as well as some other odds and ends. One major thing you can't do, at least not without major work, is put in an official TRX4 battery holder. The stock HB Toys battery holder isn't great, but if you get a longer piece of velcro and wrap it around the tray instead of using the holes in the tray it's fine.
Yeah I found the battery tray too narrow for a normal stick pack. I personally don't care for locking diffs as it is just another point of possible failure, which my rear diff already stopped locking, so I need to pull the axel cover off again and sort it. I'm hoping to run it again tomorrow and so how she does with all the upgrades in put into it.
@@YARCWest the battery will probably fit if you yank out the stock Velcro. Then you'd wrap the longer Velcro around the whole holder, not reusing the slots the stock Velcro slid in. Good luck with the one locker. Hopefully the problem is with the servo and not inside the diff itself.
When I was greasing it I ran it slow crawl with the cover off and noticed that the pin the servo triggers was coming out, it’s probably more of my doing than a fault in the design. If it is what I think it is, should be an easy fix.
The link for the truck is in the description, do you mean a specific item that is not the truck? In the upgrade video of this I have everything I used linked in the description. I'd recommend a different servo through, as you'll see in the video it is slightly taller and causes minor issues with fitment.
There are slight differences, the Ecto has (I think) 12mm axel hexs to push the wheels out away from the body, and the Enduro has rock sliders but the Ecto doesn’t. I’ve tried finding the rock sliders separately but haven’t had any luck yet. The Bushido has a slightly smaller wheelbase.
What issue are you having? It was a bit of a pain getting the screw into the horn after mounting the servo but I didn’t need to remove anything else. And I’m the type of guy who’ll spend an hour tying to do something if it means I don’t need to take something else apart haha
Actually, I think may have mounted the horn before I screwed the servo in but after I had it plugged in and turned on. I think I was able to get the horn through the gap by angling the sevrvo in the mounting position.
Yup, the motor comes with a switch to plug into your receiver (in channel 2), a power button like an ESC would have, and a connection for your battery. Hobbywing uses XT60 so it would be different than stock Dean's Connector, or T-Plug, that comes stock with the truck. The motor/ ESC combo is rated for 2S or 3S. The only issue you're going to run into, that I know of since I haven't actually done the upgrade yet, is that your power button isn't going to reach the rear of the truck like the stock 1060 ESC does. Same thing with the 1080 ESC upgrade in my R1001 video. I had to tape it next to the ESC.
@@YARCWest cool, thanks. I have some T-deans connectors at hand and also extending the power switch cables should be pretty easy. Thanks for the suggestion. Now I think my Beluga will go brushless soon :) for the price of the motor combo, it is a no brainer. Thanks again.
Awesome! And for sure, the cost to upgrade the R1001 to peak performance is still $100 cheaper than a box stock TRX4, and that includes the Ford decal and Bronco grill lol
The body is definitely flimsy, and annoying to put on. The chassis seems fine enough to me. My biggest concern is the gear box not fulling engaging when switching from low to high. Makes me wonder about the longevity of the gears in the transmission.
Went a bit further down the creek and found some other good spots too! The issue is now there is a lot of moss and MAN does it get everywhere on the truck
Cool video series, also own the Beluga in Red. Upgraded wheels and tires and exactly the same servo. Also greased everything just as you did. Overall Ithink it's still a no brainer for the price. This weekend I will attempt to waterproof the receiver using some MG Chemicals 422B silicone coat. I wonder how that will turn out. Did not really need to replace the ESC and Receiver yet, I guess I will not crawl with it too heavily. But good idea to consider. I was thinking of replacing the drive shafts, but I know a few longer term owners of the truck and it seems they hold pretty well.
@@YARCWest thanks, I will update. Everybody loves to cross streams with their crawlers, but I am well aware that the r1001 beluga is Not waterproof. The newer one is claimed to be waterproof. You can test it out in your next video perhaps ;)
So you made me curious and I pulled it out and checked it over. To me, there is no discernable difference between the R1001 and R1011 receiver. I'll test it for sure, but at the end haha
@@YARCWest hi, it seems that waterproofing using the MG chemicals works well. I applied 3 layers and so far no water damage. Just use in a well vented room when applying and leave it for at least 15 minutes to dry between applying the layers.
I like the look of the tires and rims. Perhaps axle spacers to prevent the tires from rubbing in the wheel arches. 👍 And I did watch the video until the end. As a retiree, I probably have more time and patience to watch interesting enough videos all the way to the end. 🤔😉 Greetings Jos 👋🍀
Thanks, Jos! Gonna run it how it is and see how bad the body rub is on an actual trail. Just driving around in the yard over normal obstacles seemed like it may be okay after all!
I like those rims. My suggestion would be to mix up some metallic paint to match the rims and paint the roof rails, mirrors and door handles. Then a thin line of black in the body seams.
lol I appreciate the suggestion but It may be easier to buy the same rims in black. I really like these rims as well, they are very heavy, easy to mount, and have a great style. Appreciate you checking it out! btw, you want to paint the letters on my grill?
Really cool video man! I appreciate the mention as well! I really like my HB toys Beluga Bronco. I haven’t found the servo to be weak at all where I’ve taken mine. Perhaps Maybe on a super technical rock course it may show its lack of torque while turning, but through all the rocks, ruts , roots, snow and mud I’ve taken it in it’s performed well for me. (Knock on wood)😋 I have lost the front and rear lights from time to time after going in deeper water, but after a thorough drying they always come back on. To bad about your receiver, that sucks. The 1060 esc that comes with this stock is decent enough, but like you, I would at some point opt for the 1080. I think for all you get and as capable as it is, it’s well worth the $235-$250 price tag with out having to make really any concessions. Just my opinion. Love the excursion you and your buddy went on with these rigs. That blue truck was it a element Enduro 12? I love those things and have plans to get one some time this year. Great truck, great job on your review bro! 👍🏻
Thanks for checking it out! I definitely think this truck is a very good starting point and upgrading it to be a monster won't actually cost too much. I'm going to try the receiver again in a day or two and see if it fixes it self. Yeah the blue truck is the Enduro12, I love that they have released a bunch of different bodies for them too.
@@YARCWest Great to hear buddy! These receivers must not be fully waterproof. Maybe only splash 💦 proof with a light conformal coating. I’ve had my tires fully submersed with no issues as of yet. Maybe another coat of coating or a dip in plasti dip will be needed. Glad to hear it came back to life though. Have a great weekend dude!👊🏼😎
Although this RC may perform less, the appearance is cool. It is also good that there is something for every budget. Nice RC entry-level that indeed looks like a TRX4. Nice RC to have in the collection and to participate in RC trails. Perhaps with some minor adjustments it will also perform better. But I certainly don't find it that disappointing from what I see in the video. Just a good looking RC car. Nice environment where you took outdoor shots. 🆒🎦👌👍 Greetings Jos 👋🍀
