See it! I just did- what a pair. A good one for this week too as it’s now the 80th anniversary of d day. 10 years after the film was set. And there are still a handful of ‘coffin dodgers’ on the beach this year. Love to all of them. And thanks.
Glad to see they forgave and made peace with each other despite being mortal enemies on both sides in ww2. Germany and Britain are Brothers in Arms in NATO now and glad they are. Germany may never fully recover from the horrors of the Nazis in ww2 and East Berlin and The Stasi but she can build a better future.
While her achievement in finding Richard III is undeniable, I tried reading her book about the princes in the tower and... no... just no... the tone was very, frankly as the trailer says: obsessive. I appreciated her trying to approach the investigation like a criminal investigation, but a lot of the evidence she invoked honestly felt like grasping at straws and a conspiracy theorist trying to convince you birds don't exist. Some of the evidence was good and did raise questions, but seriously, she's giving Richard III much too much benefit of the doubt, excusing every single move he makes, while ignoring the simple fact that there sure were a lot of convenient coincidences that just so happened to put him on the throne. Richard may not have been a monster, but seriously now, I couldn't even finish the book.
I visited my father’s uncle’s grave near Villers Bretonneux and attended the Anzac Day dawn service in April. Anzac Day being a commemoration of WWI. I watched this on the plane back to Australia. So many tears. And it was hard to release the emotions in a very confined space.
A humorous, poignant, lovely film, with superb performances from top to bottom. The Shakespearian device of having Philippa "haunted" by Richard III was a brilliant dollop of leavening. She, literally, changed history by uncovering the truth.
It was a waster because tge Western world has been allowed by the powers tgat be to be destroyed by invasion of people of non-Aryam (the original dedignation replaced by White/white, previously Indo-European, and Caucasian
magnificent movie. Couldn't understand why the bus to Dover was on the other side of the street, and the taxi was headed around Pevensey, Beachy Head though - maybe they were taking the long route, lol!
this was such a fantastic movie. the final scene brought a tear to my eye. the absolute perfect swansong of Michael Caine's career. I'm absolutely bowled away that he chose to come back to my home town of Hastings too (he did another movie there a long time ago). I must've walked up that same pavilion a thousand times.
I feel it's so ironic that the miners were ultimately defeated by climate change, while gay and lesbian people ended up with equal marriage and a whole heap of out MPs in all parties. We need to find a new way of winning for mining, and other vulnerable communities.
The best quote is from a member of the household staff to a new staff member about the new viceroy HAVE YOU NEVER SEEN COOLIES IN FINE DRESSES BEFORE. I love it. But the worst of it that evilness of illegal occupation is nothing more than a malignant cancer perpetrated by racist governments like the British as we have seen in Ireland. The one good point of the film is that Jeet and Aalea prove that people of different religions can live in peace.
