Great review! I also bought a clone of this set from Aliexpess, and i am more than happy with it, I bought a yellow version rather than red which I think looks far better (in my opinion). I didnt have any real issues with the build, like you did with yours, but maybe there are multiple fifferent companies cloning the set!?. I'm sure I paid less than £100, so over 3 times cheaper than the genuine version. I'm passed caring about people moaning that these are clones of genuine Lego sets, Lego shouldn't be so bloody greedy, even with designing costs and paying licensing fees they are still charging far too much. I will also be buying the clone McLaren P1, hopegully you review this too!
Just a guess, the MOC company made improvements to the pieces, but still had some older boxes to unload so you got one of the kits where you got the newer pieces and the older pieces. I wonder if someone bought this new, now, if all of the bags would be the newer, crispy, plastic with better pieces in them?
If you plan to just display it Ali Lego is good enough. If you want to resell it later for something else real Lego is the best. I’m a huge fan of the 3 sisterships Titanic, Brittanic and Olympic so it’s here just for display. Happy enough with the Ali version.
Very helpful and complete review. I also think to buy this set. These replicas become better and better and i think its only a matter of time when lego will lose its status as the pinnacle of quality, because other companies will have same quality
I just did this one and i have the same issues with fitment of pieces, but that is to be expected with knockoff products. I was also missing some pieces but i ordered those online and will be here soon. Some complain the rear engine cover does not stay up but mine does fine, my doors also stay up fine. They dont want to latch down all the way when i have it mounted on my wall. I added a piece to keep the flush with the body but other than that its perfect I have already done the Porsche GT3 and the Bugatti a few years ago, they were the same way. I also ordered the Lamborghini, just waiting on that one. The next one will be the Mclaren P1 that just came out today. I also did the Porsche RSR race car, the pieces on that one were almost as good as Lego, only a slight step down on some. Most fit perfect. I plan to get the Mclaren and Mercedes F1 cars, hopefully they are like the Porsche RSR.
I don't mind alternative bricks, but stealing the design 1-1 like this is just wrong. Those companies should do their own designs instead of ripping LEGO off.
I just got the lego one and noticed the radius of the bay doors and cockpit are way off in the fakelego version. In the lego one it is a smooth continues line between the cockpit and bay doors. Also it has less gaps overall. The front wheels do look different too and appears to be steering in the fakelego version so that might be a point for them. The solar panels on the original fit perfectly straight over here. If fakelego wanted to score some points, they should have made the bay door panels chrome on the inside from the factory. I was aware of those stickers in the lego version so I took my time with those before building the set. Used tweezers and meassured the exact distances from the borders to have them all allign straight. Not my favourite thing to do but it paid off.
I got it to save money If you look at the comments, most people who have the official Lego set have said that they've seen the same problems I had They've said similar for other sets as well.
mate! i've got the official lego titanic, and it was full of problems. i also bought the lighing/sound kit for it and the bloody thing just kept falling apart. nothing wrong with buying cheaper for what eventualy is exactly the same thing :)
Please sell it and tell me about the income. Didn't get it! Like the guys in the 90's that bought parts for their MR2 that it looks like a little Ferrari?
I have the LEGO Ford GT 42154 and it has many of the same problems as the fake lego Ferrari. It's $140. I knowing that I can have two of the same 1:8 supercar vs this small scale GT is crazy to me, I think it's worth the price.
I have the Lego Version and i must say that to fake version isn`t bad seeing it only cost £40. I have changed the black pieces on the cargo doors to white also and with a moc i found have built the SRB & external Tanks and mounted it on a Launch Platform. All in All not a bad model.
people think they are saving money I really don't think they are. if someone ever try to resale this set, you can't not like how you can with a real Lego set. Soon you buy this set you are out of $200. I like to collect Legos and I like to invest in Lego's to. just saying
I actually sold the finished model for more than I paid for it, and I made it clear it was a replica. There is certainly an ethical debate mainly over the possible theft of Lego design, but I think Lego also have a case to answer over pricing. Nearly 600 pounds for what is essentially plastic bricks in a few boxes is way too much money in my humble opinion
The doors not staying up happens with the official Lego as well, The rear part i think is something you have messed up the black beam in the box and the 2 curved parts they WOULDN'T be spares! you definitely have gone off somewhere.
Same i got a fake lego technic McLaren senna gtr with a Chinese online shop app. my McLaren look bit different With the real one and the door was same one side stood up and one side stood up and automatically fall back down
I finished my clone a couple of weeks ago and I have seen 3d printable plans in the same scale as the shuttle for the Solid Rocket Boosters and the external fuel tank which then makes then whole think look fantastic.
I have this kit. Some parts have different feel and tightness compared to lego but at 1/5 the cost I really have nothing to complain. It was a fun build and it stays on my shelf nowadays.
Anyone know where to get the instructions for this or if they are the same as the lego version? I bought what I thought was the lego version from an auction site(sight unseen) and someone had opened it and removed the lego version and put in this version.
